LMFAO. Stealthy attempt to hype next gen detected

Let us talk when they show up in majors

We are having Anderson. Isner and Delpo making SF and finals and not those guys .

Thiem won 8 games at FO

I don't really have to hype them if they are winning. I have to throw in Tsitsipas as well. I'm not saying next gen are dominating tennis but clearly they are beginning to come into their own now, slowly but surely. Wawrinka was a RG champ and won 6 games so that is not much of a barometer.

Credit to @Meles for being confident in this outcome despite the basic fact that Thiem just won twice as many matches in one tournament than he had all season. It was very hard to believe that that could happen to end fedr’s nine match win streak.
I knew my player was on fire and it just got him over the line against Federer in as fine a form as could be hoped for in 2019. Nice slow IW courts helped Thiem immensely.

Thiem was not clearly better in the 3rd. He won his only break point and that was the difference. Shortly before Thiem broke the commentators were talking about how it was looking like Federer was about to take the title.
No way. Not sure about what your commentators were saying, mine were wowed along with me by quite a few of Thiem's shots, and pointed out how he was able to keep his cool and play well in the tense moments. To me it was clear Thiem was more solid, and after Federer had the chance to break and didn't, well... I was hoping Roger would pull off something special because the way things were going, it seemed likely he'd lose.

Maybe this time. I didn't watch the post-match. Definitely wasn't graceful when losing points to Del Potro last year.

Lets be honest. They both were asses in that match. Lots of tension in that one. I think Fed was more peeved at himself for losing it. He and DelPo have a lot of tense finals.

The hype stays hype till the time we have Chung like defeats for Nadal and Djokovic in 2 of 4 slams

Thiem isn't bothered by slice at all. It's like slicing Rafa: a waste of time. The shot doesn't hurt either Thiem or Nadal.

As a change up he should have tried . Thiem was standing so far off

The BH to BH rallies is what gave the confidence to Thiem right in the first set itself

Just because Federer didn't lose in 2 it doesn't mean he choked the match away. He didn't play his best for sure, made mistakes on important points, but overall Thiem was the better player in the 3rd. Clearly better from the baseline, solid with serve and at the net.

I actually thought Federer was holding his serve more comfortably, and taking control of points more frequently than Thiem when the rally got to neutral....well up until he got broken. But Thiem was the one who stayed on the gas and was clutch in the biggest points (saving his own break points and converting on Federer's when given the chance). Great win, he deserved it. Played aggressively but under control.

On balance, Thiem was definitely the aggressor in that 3rd set. Fed worked his magic to hold serve comfortably until the end but the way the points were being played I was definitely more concerned with Fed holding serve than with Thiem.

It’s one thing when Fed loses playing freely the entire match (like in last year’s IW final).

Surely you jest. Fed played inhibited and scared tennis in last year's final, especially in the last 9 games of the third set. He choked three easy MP's. This performance was excellent in the first set and then Fed got angry at the slow conditions and mentally lost it. Story of the match. Once he complained to Mo about "ball boys moving," you knew he was going to lose.

Thiem should praise his lord for his success.

Huge congrats to Dominic Thiem for the biggest title of his career so far!

It's weird that, despite being a "clay-courter", his first M1000 is in hard.

After seeing him play Rafa so close in USO last year, I've felt that he had the game to do it. The fact that IW courts were on the slow side helped him a lot. After seeing the way he was hitting and serving against Raonic in the SF, i felt like he just might be able to pull this one out. I like Dominic. He plays his heart out and he deserved this one.

I thought Federer was the slightly better player in the 3rd up until the drop shots. ESPN was the network.

Thiem looked nervy at times and missed a bunch of shots. He got lucky with multiple lines and even a net cord in the 3rd.

Actually I think luck was part of this match. The close calls went Thiem's way more often than not.

I agree he played worse last year, and perhaps more defensive but I don’t think the outcome fazed him. Remember he was riding the high of having won the AO, so losing a final in IW would just be bad luck. This year he has more to prove and I think we saw the mental affect of that late in the 3rd set when he clearly blinked with those stupid drop shots.

The fact Fed was rallying so much tells you he deserved to lose the match. Terrible tactical match, he should have brought the volleying arsenal even on slow-as-molasses high bouncing courts. But as happens so often, Fed loses his way after a first set victory and slogs though the remainder of the match. The better player won today. I hope this gives Dom the impetus he needs to beat Nadal and Djokovic in big matches.

Congrats to Thiem for a job well done. I really thought that he would blink in the 3rd set. But Thiem played like a man that has won 20 slam titles throught his career.

Thiem is a likable kid. I guess that if Fed had to lose to somebody, then it might as well be Thiem. I hope that Thiem uses this win as a stepping stone to bigger titles. I will be pulling for him.

So disappointed that Federer lost but, on the bright side, Thiem played very well throughout the week and won it. I hope he builds on this and does well at RG. If it is not Federer(very wishful thinking, I know), I hope Thiem wins FO this year. As for Rogi, he can win Miami instead of IW now!

Congrats to Thiem on winning his maiden Masters 1000 and becoming the 17th active player to hold 1 of these titles! This is his 12th ATP title and the biggest to date and also the first this season. He also becomes the first Austrian player to win a Masters title since Muster (who won 8 of them so Thiem has got a fair way to go to catch him up). He also becomes the first Austrian player to win in Indian Wells.

Thiem has more chances of winning RG than Fed of winning Miami.

In short - Thiem brought some of his best ballbashing performances in final, overpowered his Opponent. His Opponent in crucial game losing confidence in his ground game forced to hit very bad drop shots those good mover like Thiem easily picked. He gets break in decider and it's GSM.

Dropshots were a good play but Thiem was running on adrenaline. Losing the first one was ok but the second one was clearly out of stubbornness.

Wasn't my Austrian prince just wonderful, Mainad? :)

On a cautionary note for Roger, this is the 2nd year in a row he has finished runner-up in a 3 set final at Indian Wells. Is he losing his clutchness in these type of finals?
