Final 8 to the Final 4

Cheers

Hope to see the Big Doc take out Lord Gulbis. Ivo's been playing well so far, and I hope to see him make a real statement in this tournament after a successful run in the challengers late last season.
Seeing either of these two in the SF is good for tennis.

Simon vs Ivashka was a war of attrition for the first 1.5 sets, copious amount of extended rallies throughout the match, didn't know too much about Ilya beforehand but he was staying with Simon in these rallies and more, I was wondering if he was going to keep it up as a winning strategy.

A pivotal 28 point service game from Simon early in set two seemed to dramatically change things during the match, as he then went on to win ten of the last twelve games. More errors crept into the Belarusian's game and his serve became less potent as the match progressed. A bit mentally and physically fatigued, especially after playing that three setter yesterday as well. Simon did as he usually does when he smells weakness and decline, raised his level from the back of the court and urgency to end points somewhat. A lot of variety in the last two sets from Simon, glorious to watch.

Good match between Ivo and Gulbis. Was very tight... I think it mentally got to Gulbis in the end, but a very good match for Dr Ivo. Watch out!

Cheering real hard for Ivo.

Jimmy Connors was 37 when he made his last final in 89. Karlovic has a real chance in his semifinal.

Commentators stated Connors was last 40 year old to make a semifinal at an ATP event in 93 San Francisco.

So Paire breaks. Dissapointing by Simon, he'll probably have a bad season again. Well Paire vs Anderson will prob be interesting.

Following live every now and then at work, Paire was serving for the match in the 2nd set, Simon managing to break back and win the TB.

Now immediately up a break in the final set, allez.

Very good chance Pune will feature a very tall final for all the Tatas...2.03m vs 2.08m. Chicks dig the long ball!

Here's hoping Simon can pull off the Anderson upset for the second year running ;)

Simon playing a grinder to all courter and now the big server/plus one. It's quite the contrast this week.

3 Indians got WC entries but unfortunately Ramanathan was the only one to win his 1st round match and lost a tight one to Jaziri.

I don't know why my fellow Indians suck at tennis..
Wish I could've afford to play it in my childhood (was a fitness freak from then onwards).... I am 6'1.5", fast and flexible
Who knows maybe I would enter top100 atleast

Dude, Sweden had like 7 different guys hit Top 10 in the 80s and there's some Slams where they had 5+ guys in the R16. Now they have 0 guys in the Top 100. Tennis is an expensive sport and you need good training and unfortunately India has been behind there. Russian players started to develop more in the 90s after communism fell and even then some just went to the States. India has produced some great Doubles players and guys like Amritraj and the Krishnans (Sr and Jr) had deep runs in singles.

Absolutely
It requires huge amount of money for initial stage and that's where 90s India sucked

Hoping for an Ivo vs Simon final...

Karlovic sure has been returning well this week. Really been laying down those slap 2nd serve returns with precision. He's also moving extremely well, and looking a lot loser than I've seen him for a long while.

Dr Ace Machine in high gear with 25 aces in 9 service games and a TB. Poor Darcis at 5’10” can’t even reach up to half of those bullets.

Does Dr Ivo just become the oldest player ever to make an ATP Final?

Simon trying to repeat his match with Paire and comeback from a set and break down.

Livescores saying he just broke back to level the 2nd at 4-4...

I think Karlovic has a better shot against Anderson. I don't think Kevin will be able to break him.

head to head is 3-1 Anderson, although two of those wins were retirements that didn't reach the second set.

Anderson did edge out Isner at Wimbledon in a match that could have gone either way. Anderson will be the slight favourite.

There's no way that Ivo's breaking Anderson -- despite returning very well this week. Anderson stands a much better chance of breaking Ivo. Karlovic has overcomes his tiebreak woes though. Can go either way, but slight edge to Anderson.

Glad to see lots of Dr Ivo love here!
I watch all his matches as it's fun to see how opponents deal with him, or not, when he's on form..
He looked pretty cooked last year, even dropped to a challenger and won it.
Oldest player ever to win a challenger.

He also hit 13000 aces career total, this week (and is all time leader).
Isner is a couple of thou off still!

Wouldn't you like to be able to serve like Dr Ivo? Even half of the time! Imagine that at club matches :)

Ivo Vs Simon then... I'm going with Simon, but if the Dr can serve like he did against Djokovic, when he won the Doha final a few years back, Simon may breakdown mentally..
Come on Ivo.

It's not Simon in the final, that was just my wish. Simon lost to Anderson in a quality straight sets loss, 6-3 7-6. Had 2 SPs in the 2nd set, would have backed him converting one of these SPs on a extended rally, but Anderson served exceptionally well under pressure in that 2nd after the forehand started to misfire a bit more frequently.

Watching Ivo go for balls now that last year he just wouldn't have even bothered with. Even in Monterrey challenger where he made the final, he seemed rather sluggish.
I got to see him play in person at the Calgary challenger, and it's actually really impressive how fast he can move, despite how cumbersome he looks on TV.
Really started to see his movement pick up considerably in the Houston challenger, even though he was knocked out rather easily in the QF... his groundstrokes and return was also considerably improved.
I think winning that Calgary challenger, where he won 8/9 tiebreaks, has really boosted his confidence -- and that shows in the rest of his game -- movement wise, consistency of groundstrokes, and absolutely pummelling second serve returns.
Also, Ivo made a slight change in his service motion, which I've really only noticed since the Monterrey challenger... He doesn't bend over as much when he rocks back leading into the ball toss, and stays relatively upright, so his weight transfer isn't as accentuated. Wondering if he may have done this partially to remedy the amount of double faults he'd been making.

Ivo saves set point. Having a hard time finding a first serve this game.

Big game, and a good hold from Ivo to level the set at 5-5
