Take a look at all these misleading headlines. They make it out like Fed beat a guy in an iron lung instead of mentioning the giant wasn't "hobbled" until the match was basically over.

daily express and new york post are mediocre/crappy.
Not sure why The Guardian posted a misleading headline.

BBC, ATP, tennis.com have proper headlines.

ATP : "Roger's Lesson: Tennis Mastery 101 ", "Federer In Full Flight: Roger Soars To Fourth Miami Crown"
BBC : Roger Federer wins Miami Open with 6-1 6-4 victory over John Isner
tennis.com : FEDERER TOPS ISNER FOR 4TH MIAMI, 28TH MASTERS AND 101ST OVERALL TITLE

As I recall Tsitsipas played awesomely offensive in AO2019, as did Fed but came up short, will need to rewatch to confirm claims made here

There's something weird about tennis players only getting injured when losing, very rarely when winning.

Weird the Isner injury happened today, and not in one of his previous 5 matches.

It can’t believe that Fed turned this tourney around like he did. Fed looked absolutely terrible in the first match against Albot. I thought Albot was going pull a Kokkinakis and win. By the time he got to Kandy, he was clicking on all 8 cylinders. Fed wrecked Medvedev, Kandy and Shapovalov.

Fed won 33 of his 35 service points against Isner . At one point late in the 2nd set, Fed was only 4/4 at the net.

It’s a funny old sport isn’t it? If you gave me that draw and said he’ll struggle against just one of those players, the last one i’d pick would be Albot!

This thread has become a Fede101 thread, and rightly so, but a word of respect for Isner for playing it out despite his pain. Certain players give up when they're down.

True, but a lot had to do with the scoreline at the time.
When he was really in pain there were only two games to go.
Had the pain been the same at the start of the 2nd set, he may have thrown in the towel then.

I'm really curious tho how a Shapo Isner final would have gone.

I would have liked to see that also, but Isner plays awfully tough on U.S. hard courts, and I don't think Shapo has a sliver of Fed's (currently) unique talent for blunting the effect of big servers so effectively. I'm not saying Fed is the best returner in the game (I'm quite certain he's not) but for handling deliveries from Isner, Ivo, etc. Fed would be at or near the top of my list.

Uhuh, you turned around my words.

It amazes me that players who are winning never get injured.

You must not watch a lot of tennis. Because I've seen many top players win their matches while injured. I've seen many players retire during competitive matches. But naturally, they normally aren't ahead in the game count when they retire, because DUH... they want to keep trying to win. They want to see if they can play through it. Why the hell would they retire being ahead?

You really need to think hard about your words. What you are saying is truly idiotic.

As a Fed fan I agree with you. It was classy of Isner for playing it out and not retiring from the match. Many would have thrown in the towel and Fed's title would have had an asterisk forever.

What a ridiculous run of sets from Fed that's Rafa like on clay, when was the last time he had such a good stretch of scorelines? Even in Cinci 15, IW and Wimbledon 17 he got stretched to breakers a couple of times each.
The craziest part is that it was against a series of strong servers. Including a bagel on Anderson and a breadstick on Isner. And 62 sets v Shapovalov and Medvedev.

I just think he's one too much already we've been watching the sky for 20 years now I thought he was going to fade down the rankings and retire like normal old men

That's actually pretty silly now you mention it. Especially as the furthest Isner had been pushed in a set this week was any number of TBs, all of which he won. The last time Isner was breadsticked was at Miami last year, and the last time Anderson was bagelled was in 2016.

My theory on this is that when you're losing you're scrambling, struggling to put in the extra effort, you're commanding more of your body than can be delivered. This results in strains and other type injuries.

It's unfortunate for Isner but come on does he really need to act out that much? You've been owned for 90% of the match and you think without that injury a miraculous comeback would have happen at the near end of the match??? All of his crying kinda take away from Roger's victory.
You're accusing him of something he didn't say; to the contrary, he was quick to point out that it wouldn't have made any difference to the outcome if he hadn't suffered the injury. Maybe you're projecting a tad?
