It can’t believe that Fed turned this tourney around like he did. Fed looked absolutely terrible in the first match against Albot. I thought Albot was going pull a Kokkinakis and win. By the time he got to Kandy, he was clicking on all 8 cylinders. Fed wrecked Medvedev, Kandy and Shapovalov.

Fed won 33 of his 35 service points against Isner . At one point late in the 2nd set, Fed was only 4/4 at the net.

It’s a funny old sport isn’t it? If you gave me that draw and said he’ll struggle against just one of those players, the last one i’d pick would be Albot!

True, but a lot had to do with the scoreline at the time.
When he was really in pain there were only two games to go.
Had the pain been the same at the start of the 2nd set, he may have thrown in the towel then.

I'm really curious tho how a Shapo Isner final would have gone.

I would have liked to see that also, but Isner plays awfully tough on U.S. hard courts, and I don't think Shapo has a sliver of Fed's (currently) unique talent for blunting the effect of big servers so effectively. I'm not saying Fed is the best returner in the game (I'm quite certain he's not) but for handling deliveries from Isner, Ivo, etc. Fed would be at or near the top of my list.

You must not watch a lot of tennis. Because I've seen many top players win their matches while injured. I've seen many players retire during competitive matches. But naturally, they normally aren't ahead in the game count when they retire, because DUH... they want to keep trying to win. They want to see if they can play through it. Why the hell would they retire being ahead?

That's actually pretty silly now you mention it. Especially as the furthest Isner had been pushed in a set this week was any number of TBs, all of which he won. The last time Isner was breadsticked was at Miami last year, and the last time Anderson was bagelled was in 2016.

My theory on this is that when you're losing you're scrambling, struggling to put in the extra effort, you're commanding more of your body than can be delivered. This results in strains and other type injuries.

You're accusing him of something he didn't say; to the contrary, he was quick to point out that it wouldn't have made any difference to the outcome if he hadn't suffered the injury. Maybe you're projecting a tad?
