A lot of WTA players got all messed up playing against slicers because there aren't too many of them around. Good to see WTA players with lots of varieties in their game. The short court slice proves again to be very effective. Tatiana gave no rhythm to Sloane. Sloane couldn't play her game. This is my first time watching Tatiana's match. Interesting style.

My gosh, do some of these WTA airheads and their coaches have no clue? Zero game plan, and zero skills to handle them.

Come on over to my club and play in our 3.5 league for a week, that will help you.

Player....how do I play this junk baller?
Coach....uhhhh, just bash the ball

Maria has A skill on moon ball skill also. The first few games Sloane doesn't know is it gonna be short or heavy moon ball.
This is not the first time she messed up top player games. Svitolina lost on 1R Wimbledon having no clue how to play her.

Meanwhile Serena beat her in just 49 minutes at Australian Open.

Just watched the highlights and your analysis was spot on. I’ve mever seen a player with a style like Maria. She slice almost everything and has powerful shot to back them up. Really good at coming to the net also.

Yes, moon ball skill is still a skill - never to be underestimated. Not easy to counter, unless you actually practice and know how to neutralize or better yet, attack it on the rise - something Serena (and other players) is good at. If it's effective in the Pro level - it has to be quite effective in the USTA league level, but it's hardly ever seen/used.

I've never seen Maria play before, but very impressed how she completely threw Stephens off her game. At times the latter looked like a beginner. I was minded of Vinci beating Williams at the USO (obviously the stakes were far higher) but a thoughtful, strategic player got in to the head of a big hitter and bamboozled them.
Good to see.

I was at the stadium last night and watched that horrible display from Sloane. It was as though she forgot how to hit volleys and overheards. Has she practiced them at all since she split with Kamau Murray? It was so very bad.

Massive win for Barty over Bertens who's now likely to make her top 10 debut unless Wozniacki makes the final or Wang wins the title.

Ash is into the QF's and plays Kvitova for a THIRD time this year already.

They met in the Sydney final and the Australian Open QF with Petra winning both.

Great work Caroline, you're all the way on the other side of the court so hit the ball right to Hsieh who has the whole open court to hit into, which she does and she breaks.

Not like that ball was flying and hitting it to Hsieh was the only option. Stupid.
