Entering this tourney, Fog was 0-4 on clay this year. It looked like 0-5 was imminent when he was down 4-6, 1-4 to Rublev. But The Fog miraculously turned things around. This is one the very best comebacks that I have ever seen from anybody.

Congrats Fognini!!!

Where's Fog's coach, Franco Davin? Didn't see him in the box??

so will Fabio become nicer guy now that he won the 1000 event ?? and his bad oncourt behavior improved ??????????
We just watched a man on a clay court play with finesse, touch and beauty instead of bludgeoning the wall, grunting and ball bashing as 90% of the other guys do. The only guys sweeter to watch on clay in terms of touch and variety are Guga and Roger. Appreciate Fab turning clay court tennis into something beautiful to watch. And unpredictable. This was a fun match!

So we have two new winners in Masters 1000's: Dom and Fab. Is this the changing of the guard? Probably not, but there's a chance.

Masters 1000 have been unpredictable and open since 2017: Zverev won 3, then you have Grigor, Sock, Delpo, Isner, KK, and now Fog winning their maiden titles. It remains to be seen when the slam deadlock will be broken.

Eight new M1000 champions in the last 17 tournaments. I would say it's kind of a change in the scenario, yeah!
It absolutely is. The field is a bit more open and new faces are snatching some titles.

But it'll be a gradual change, and it'll happen in the warm-up tournaments before it reaches the majors. But eventually it'll get there as well. Thankfully.

Did he say it's his mom's birthday or something? I know tomorrow it's his son's birthday. That's a really good timing to winning his biggest title ever.

Most of those winners are from the absence of the Big 4, not because those guys all stepped up. So until the Big guys start skipping or sleeping on the slams, it won't happen.

Credit to Fog, Delpo and Thiem for taking out the king at those events. But Zverev won his clay titles by avoiding Rafa, and got a broken Fed in Montreal. Nick took out Rafa for Grigor to win Cincy (no Fed or Novak even in that field). Karen got a sick Novak in Paris.

They're all still a direct consequence of injury and inconsistency from the Big 3 though.

The change of guard is really false when half the new winners are of old generations and younger players are still losing to everyone and their mothers outside the 3 tournaments they play great in a year.

Big 3 literally won the last 9 Grand Slams. The last Slam winner younger than all Big 3 players was Cilic 5 years ago.

Sure, but still a change of the guard even if it doesn't solely benefit younglings.

New faces, which is good in any case.

Eh, it's not like RAFA is much of a gatekeeper in Cincy

I'm from Serbia and I guess I know about him a bit better and I can confirm this. He is such a great guy, always nice and respectful.
Thanks for the info. The American commentators today (Blake and Carillo) were both saying he's a lovely guy, very much respected in the locker room and a good sport. I haven't watched more than a few of his matches, but happy to see him doing well.
