I really hope Federer wins this one to somewhat Makeup for those Wimbledon/AO chokes and USO injury loss this year.

It's been way too long since his last one.

With the format, imbalanced groups ultimately work out.

If you have a tough group, you can have easy semi final.

If you have a Nadal USO draw for round robin, then whatever I want to say because I am still butthurt by Nadal's victory at the US Open and Federer's 11th failed attempt in a row to win the USO since 2008.

I would like

Djok, Fed,Thiem and Zverev. Want Fed to get some revenge in the group.

Nadal, Med, Thiem and Monfils in the other - cake walk for Nadal to top the group

We get a Fedal SF and Djoker-Thiem SF

Fed-DJoker to decide the final winner.
It would mean you have a tough opponent like Medvedev in the round robin.

Group names and date of the draw ceremony have been announced. From the ATP website:

2019 DRAW CEREMONY:
The draw for the 2019 Nitto ATP Finals will be made on Tuesday, 5 November. Further details will be published in due course.

2019 GROUP NAMES:
The Finals Club, an initiative launched by the ATP in 2015 as a way of celebrating the past champions and heritage of the season-ending tournament since its inception in 1970, has honoured former champions through the naming of groups over the past four years. This year’s groups will be named as follows:

In singles:
- Group A will be named in honour of Andre Agassi, the 1990 winner and 14-time qualifier.
- Group B will be named in honour of Bjorn Borg, the 1979 and 1980 winner.

In doubles:
- Group A will be named in honour of Max Mirnyi, the 2006 and 2011 winner.
- Group B will be named in honour of Jonas Bjorkman, the 1994 and 2006 winner.

Why are you creating a thread about the ATP finals when the tournament has not even started?

Just like threads about matches that have not started are usually deleted, threads about tournaments which have not started should be typically deleted.
Creating threads for a pro-match discussion is sometimes a race for who creates the thread first. Member @mightyjeditribble wanted to be the founder of the thread for 2019 ATP Finals, so he hurried.

No, actually. :-D

I was going to create a thread anyway about who would be qualifying for London. It seemed to me, as we were already going to discuss the tournament, it might as well be a tournament thread. It seemed and still seems to me quite sensible to have a thread if we are going to be talking about the tournament already anyway. It's definitely not the first time a thread for a tournament has been created a while ahead of time when people have been talking about it, and I don't remember any complaints then ...

I mean, I get it that people complain when a match thread is made before the previous match has finished, that annoys me too. It also annoys me when people make a rubbish thread that then becomes the tournament thread, without the relevant information in the OP. But the fact of just having a tournament thread where people can discuss seems to be such an odd thing to complain about.

I'll wait with adding a poll until the draw is out on Tuesday, in case there are any withdrawals before.

This just in Rafa Nadal is scheduled to play Berritini in all round robin matches. Special scheduling this year. Uncle Toni made them an offer they could not refuse.
Toni might have made a better deal for Zverev. Rafa is 5-0 against him!

You need to fix this OP and add a poll when the Round Robin is set on Tuesday. I like having this thread out early, but don't dawdle on updating the OP.;)

I've been updating it so far, haven't I? :D

I will definitely add the poll, and group information, sometime Tuesday.

So, year-end #1 will be decided at the WTF, as we expected. Djokovic is 640 points behind Nadal, which means Djokovic can get year-end #1 in the following scenarios.

1. If Djokovic wins the title and Nadal does not reach the final, Djoko gets YE#1, unless he won only one RR match and Nadal won all three.
2. If Djokovic wins the title and Nadal makes the final, Djoko gets YE#1 if he won at least one more RR match than Nadal.
3. If Djokovic is the losing finalist, Djoko gets #1 if he won at least two more RR match than Nadal, and Nadal doesn't win the title.

In all other scenarios, Nadal gets year-end #1. In particular, if he reaches the final undefeated, he clinches YE#1. Him winning at least two RR matches means that Djokovic needs to win the title.

Of course, should Nadal not be able to play, Djokovic will be the favourite - he needs to win two RR matches and make the final in that case.

Here are all the possible groups (assuming no withdrawals):

I want 5, but I think we'll end up with 8
What about the more realistic one without Nadal, or we just go ahead and pencil in RBA for Nadul. If Nadal pulls the plug on Tuesday, he's got a 50/50 of RBA landing with Djokovic. But assuming he doesn't just how crazy can the draw get with RBA in for Nadal (and safely away from Nole.) Scenarios with RBA in for Nadal:
1. The best Federer scenario would then probably be 3 or 7 given Berrettini's dear in the headlights Wimbledon performance.
2. Medvedev probably safest with Thiemerev, scenario 2, but really he probably handles them all
3. Thiem would want scenario 3 with Federer rather than Medvedev
4. Zverev probably prefers Thiem and Federer

Nadal pulling out after the Tuesday draw would be very good for really the whole field and at the expense of Djokovic. He might just stay in and see how his strain does the following days.:D

In the unlikely event that Nadal withdraws before the draw is made, we'd have these possibilities instead:

Excellent.

It is asking him a lot to do the decent thing given he just withdrew from Paris two days ago.:sneaky: 2-6 weeks for abdominal strain last I heard, not 1 week, but you're probably right.
3 & 7 probably the worst for Djokovic and probably worse than any scenario where Nadal stays in the draw for a while.

This looks much betterer for Federer as he's probably the strongest against the Mad Lad. And this makes things look a lot rougher for Medvedev with scenario 4 the most likely to disrupt his pushery.

This also is quite beneficial to Thiem as he can't play Medvedev in round robin. Scenario 7 is best for Thiem as he's beaten all three players this year, but 5 probably better with RBA in place of Berrettini.

I'm not sure in the above that it matters all that much to Zverev or Tsitsipas where they land.

Looking forward to that cat's expression when Fed gets rekt by Berrettini.
Yeah just like at Wimbledon. Pray to God Nadalito doesn't draw Fed in his group cause it's gonna be butchery like never seen before. No amount of Berrettini will save his famoz azz.

Well, keep some caveats stockpiled in case the unthinkable happens. I know you will ofc.

The unthinkable you mean Nadal beating Federer/Djokovic outside of clay ever again or winning a non-clay Slam without Berrettini in his draw?
Indeed. Berrettini may be a mug, but Fed enjoys a good loss to a mug these days, just to provide the smoke and mirrors that obfuscate how trash the next generations are, single handedly keeping the interest in tennis alive in the process. Even threw Nole a precision-engineered bone at W to keep the slam race alive and troll his entire fanbase. Whatever he does next, you know it will rustle jimmies. You never know, that may include a loss to Berrettini AND Nadal just so he can witness the most rustled jimmies of all... A new unprecedented concept to unveil and unleash upon TTW.

I had to read this post in instalments because I fell asleep in the middle of the 2nd sentence.
