Wow...Tsitsipas looks a little, what is it?, demoralized here. Three break points for Felix...

...he saves one with a good forehand down the line winner.

Felix breaks. 2-0. He looks like he's settled in a bit.

Tsitsipas making errors left, right, and centre here. He looks like the break in the last game of the 1st set really got to him. As I said, Felix looks a little more settled in as well, a little more confident on the return and in neutral rallies.

This is comfortable for Felix. Tsitsipas hasn't really taken charge during his matches this week and has ended up looking a but reactive due to opponent getting first hit.

Tsitsipas calls the trainer out. I will admit it went downhill for him when he fell at the end of the 1st set. Then he lost the set and now he's down 3-0. Gotta stop the bleeding.

Muscle tightness should not be allowed a medical timeout, IMO. Cramps are different. Another delay tactic from Tsitsipas.
Strategic MTO. Far from the only one to ever do that. Probably trying to get his head together a bit but this one looks like it is over.

Nah. Tsitsipas has the results to back it up. He's just struggling on the grass, as I'm sure a lot of young players do because the surface is becoming more and more rare.

He was hyped after clay season by people saying his style is better for grass. I said we haven't seen him on grass much yet. He doesn't have any big wins on it, had an easy draw at Wimbledon, etc.

So far it looks like he isn't a natural grass courter despite his playing style.

Clutch volley from Felix to save another break point.

Sweet backhand pass down the line from Tsitsipas and it's a 3rd break point.

Great serve + one on the 2nd serve and it's deuce again.

I agree with that 100%. I just don't think he's overrated in general. He's full value for what he's achieved thus far.

IIRC, Tsitsipas said in a press conference something like somehow he always played badly against FAA since Junior. Didn't lookup their H2H in Junior.

FAA has a dubs match coming with Alex de Minaur against Evans/Skupski (after suitable rest) and another doubles later against Andy/Lopez, if they win. That's a lot of tennis!

Yep, but this is where an 18 year old like Felix can and probably wants to play a lot of tennis. He needs the experience from all those matches.

Sublime drop shot and then an ace to cap off a love service game for Felix. 5-2.

Calling it now: he breaks in the next game to take the match. Tsitsipas looks frustrated.

FAA will at least get a chance to serve for the match. Not really a good look for Tsitsipas to have the younger player beat him this consistently. But both are still young.

Called it. Game, set and match Felix!

Unfortunate last point though. Felix makes the return and Tsitsipas just slips as the ball goes right by him.

Full marks for Felix but at the same time I feel like Stefanos didn't really test him. I probably sound like a broken record at this point but he just needs more matches, especially against the top 10. Tsitsipas looked fine for most of the 1st set while Felix was looking tentative but he played a really loose game at 5-6 down, allowing Felix to take the set, and then it seemed like it was all downhill. It seemed like a mix of Felix settling in and he being in Tsitsipas' head.

Even if FAA advances no further, he's setting himself up well for the big W coming up!
He really is, though I think the best will come during the summer hard court swing. Absolutely cannot wait to see him play in his hometown at the Rogers Cup! Ideally it becomes something of a pet M 1000 for him during his career, but I'm getting way too far ahead of myself.

There were just about the same number of grass events 40 years ago as now. There’s also one additional week before a Wimbledon than in the past. Grass has always been a brief season in the tennis calendar for 40+ years.

I'm not just talking about on tour. It's been said that all over the world, at least especially here in North America, grass courts are becoming more and more of a novelty. It's hard to find a club that has them, even out of the high end, fancy ones. I don't know if many players nowadays get much exposure to grass as they develop which is why I say that there's likely a learning curve for all young players on tour on grass.

I think Sampras said he never played on grass until he played junior Wimbledon. I think that's sort of the norm for most pros since the 70s.

Tsitsipas still trying to break through but already getting overtaken by a guy 2 years younger than him. Poor ****.

FAA is probably the real deal (as we expected he would ever since we saw him winning his first challenger match at just age 14), provided that he can keep his mental demons under control and doesn't go full Cilic in that department.
