Massacre amongst Canadian WC qualifiers; all but one lost so far. Abanda I think it's the last one standing and she is playing right now.
Not a good day for Canadian tennis and Tennis Canada.

EDIT: Abanda lost too....

Barty, Osaka and Pliskova all in contention for the #1 ranking.

Barty loses 350 points from last years SF, Osaka loses none and Pliskova loses just 60.

Barty is on 6256 points
Osaka on 6228 points
Pliskova on 6050 points

Pliskova must make at least the SF while Osaka must make at least the 3R to have a chance at overtaking Ash.

I'm going with either Anisimova, Muguruza, or Kvitova to take it all this year... JK

All 3 on the DL for Toronto. Garbine was supposed to play in San Jose at the Silicon Valley classic but pulled out with an injury before it started.

Amanda was supposed to play today against Aryna Sabalenka today but has pulled out. Apparently something was bothering her in her QF match vs Zheng in San Jose last Friday night. After failing to win the second set, she had a meltdown. Trainer and doctor were called out and she took an MTO at that point. It was never clear what was wrong with her but it certainly affected her ability to stay focused and sustain her usual level.

Wishing a speedy recovery to all three women and hope to see them play in Cincinnati.

So even if Simona defends her title, it looks like the best she can hope for is #4?

I think Wozniacki is a player that is boring for me to watch play! Never really appreciate her game even with her improvement in 1st serve and more powerful groundstrokes.

In other (old) news, Halep will team up with the Canadian youngster - Fernandez to enter the doubles.
Fernandez lost 0 and 1 her 1R singles match today. Pretty good experience overall for the 16 years old to play on the MD and now along Halep in doubles.
