Didn't Djoko have to play 2 tough matches in a day or some such scheduling crap before Rome final ? Why are people pretending that this is a fair contest when Thiem has been playing for the 4th day in a row including 2+ hours yesterday ?
Wonder what will be done next year to take away Nadal's opponent's legs since roof won't let such schedule related robbery happen.
Yes, Roland Garros has a conspiracy to let the same player win every year.

There's no other reason for the 11 titles he has won.

Never Forget Thiem with his one hander and play style is just as much a threat than Djokovic. and that goes for all surfaces. Only reason Nadal does not have 12 majors off clay is due to injuries.

Well Djokovic took about 5 Slams from him off clay too though. He has been unlucky with the injuries as well.

I don't mean the fact that he's a defensive baseliner.

I mean the fact that you get butthurt over his style.

A moonball is a way to hit the ball very high, so high it's very uncomfortable for players to correctly coordinate and adjust to the new height, as much as speed is uncomfortable because a player doesn't have time to adjust and coordinate properly for the shot.

"crappy"? I'd say marvelous otherwise, Nadal wouldn't be 2-1 right now. A crappy moonball is something a mediocre player would do by leaving the ball before the middle of the court, with no speed, and not that high, just slow. Perhaps you're very used to tennis club players.

Also, I wouldn't be surprised if Nadal were to win with more winners than Thiem.

Moonballing isn’t tennis.

There’s a reason he only has 6/17 outside of clay.

Tim needs to keep hitting short angles and making Nadal run around

Raffa xposing the terrible back in with the high Spencer's back and you see Djokovic would have been able to handle that so much better

Well not as good today is what I meant, and not as good as he has been in this tournament. Nadal might have grounded Novak but Novak would have given him a lot of trouble today and pushed him.

In what way? Thiem's been able to hang with Nadal in rallies and there was pretty much no difference in the 3rd set of 2014 final and this final, all Novak did was win one extra game than Thiem. Nadal came out ultra agressive from the beginning to get a quick lead and stamp authority on the match and Thiem has done well to keep up rallies against Nadal, first set they were killing each other. 2nd set both were kind of saving energy until Thiem pounced and Nadal got tight. 3rd set Nadal came out even more agressive which caught Thiem out.

He's not any worse than 2014.

Woah, woah, woah, woah. Does this mean if a guy takes a bathroom break after losing a set he isn't automatically guaranteed to break serve at the beginning of the next?

No, just that Nadal does it time and time and time again whenever things aren’t going his way.

Don’t act so naive

Yes and that reason is Federer and Djokovic. You don't think Nadal would have won more at other slams just like Federer and Djokovic do at the FO?

Maybe it's high because it is not done in a big enough sample size.

If Curry from Golden State hits 50 three pointers in 60 attempts and I hit 4 out of 4 it doesn't mean I'm a better shooter than him. Just because I have a higher percentage.

The more volleys you do in a match the harder it is, because it is a technically difficult shot. Nadal doesn't do many of those because he doesn't feel feel confident about volleying.

You can get a larger sample size by adding more matches. Nadal has great stats at the with the larger sample size too.

Hey may not come to net that often because he is more comfortable in the back court, even though he is still comfortable at net.

Also, many commentators say he is a great at the net - and they probably know better than you and I about what they are talking about.

this French open could have been epic if we didn't have the rain delays and if Djokovic was in the final and they were both fresh that would have been epic

Moonballing IS tennis.

As much as a serve, or a volley or a slice.

You even said it yourself.

CLAY, a surface used in A SPORT CALLED TENNIS.

That lack of awareness of that fact probably comes from a combination of fanboyism and entitlement that only what I like is what's valuable in a sport.

We're not talking about 2014. That was 5 years ago and a match where Djokovic was throwing up on court. I'm saying based on what I have seen so far, Rafa is not as great today as he has been the last few weeks and Djokovic would have had his chances. Thiem was terrible in set 3 and spraying everything, although Rafa did pick up his level.

You need to watch court level views of Nadal's shots. The camera angle doesn't do them justice. They look like moonballs from above, but in reality they are 3500rpm rockets traveling at an average speed of about 78 mph.

Nadal has one of the highest average shot speed on tour. Right there with Del Potro.
