Wow, that's a hard draw for Nadal given that it is on indoor hardcourt. In Djokovic's half the only tough opponent is Med.

To be fair, there is no such thing as an easy draw for him in this tournament anyway. He is too vulnerable on these courts.
If only he could win Paris and the WTF that would fill in big holes on his resume on his quest to becoming the best of this era.

That's never going to happen. In Paris he is just too bad, any decent player can beat him there. Maybe he could still win it in 2017 if he didn't pull out, the field was very weak, but it was still far from a given. As for WTF, he was good enough to win it at least once, but he just kept skipping it year after year. And in the years when he actually played he always had to deal with in-form Federer or Djokovic. If he played every year then I believe he could win it. But he kept skipping it, and now it's too late. Anyway, I don't see that as big holes in his resume. 1 WTF title would not make him an all time great on indoor hardcourt anyway. He should just focus on the slams right now.

He has played 8 times but he wasn’t always fully fit. He played well at the WTF in 06/10/13. I think he won’t win the WTF to be indoors is his blemish IMO. Slams are more likely. Maybe a additional Paris is too high a expectation.

Rafa withdrew from the 2017 Paris Masters before his QF due to a right knee injury!

I wish people would check the facts before making glib comments. Rafa has missed more Paris indoor tournaments that even the WTF because he is usually nursing some kind of injury at this time of the year. It's nothing to do with him losing to all Tom, Dick and Harry.

I don't count 2017, he shouldn't have even played that one match as he was clearly injured.
Yes, he had some decent performances. I would also add 2015 to that list. Not a big difference from 2013 IMO.

He is extremely vulnerable in Paris anyway. Something in these courts limits his game. He can't even attack on them.

I thought Federer wasn't going to play this. I suppose there is still time to pull out and see how Basel goes.

Kinduva tough draw for Rafa. Obviously indoor HC isn't his forte and there are some tricky players early who could beat him if they play well.

Djokovic should cruise to the semis. Only Tsitsipas could beat him before then. I don't see anyone beating Medvedev pre-semis either.

Yes, and what is wrong with my comment? I mean he would have a chance to win if he did not get injured.

Yes. Cilic/Wawrinka, Berrettini, Federer...He will not get through such a draw. For sure not in a tournament where he reached only 1 final in his career.

Why even bother playing Paris? Nadal might as well take the year off and come fresh at the AO.
Paris/WTF do nothing for him - except to destroy his confidence (if he loses early) and to make him more fatigued for next year - destroying his chances for the AO.

He has a pattern of overplaying leading to injury. Not playing IW/Miami saved Nadal from ruining the F.O this year.
Walkover at UsOpen (initial rounds) saved him in the final. Had he played 1 more match or longer matches, he wouldn't have survived the 5th set - because he looked completely exhausted.

Very tasty SF between Djokovic and Medvedev. I wonder who will win.
Medvedev is on a high, but Novak would be keen to stamp his authority and stop the bleeding.
Novak might be better on a faster indoor court, so may have an edge.
But a very very exciting match nonetheless, a solid trailer to future grand slam championship battles between the two I'm sure.

Rafa plays tennis because he likes to play.

Rafa plays tennis because he likes to play.

Fair point. He has gotten rest after the UsOpen, so maybe he feels in good shape to make a push at these events and #1 ranking.
The slams at 2020 will be critical though. They may decide the GOAT race between these 3 champions. If Nadal can stop Novak from any of the non-clay slams, he gets closer to being the best of the era.
If OTOH Novak manages to wrap up AO/Wimb - then he would be in a touching distance as well.

2020 will be super exciting. Even slam final will be played for history and records which might last for decades. Not to mention Medvedev will likely be the spoiler as well. I have a feeling that Nadal/Fed/Novak will give everything at the slams.

Sometimes I start reading a comment until I realise it's by StrongRule then skip it as he never fails to diss Rafa.

Rafa doesn't play tennis because of the 'GOAT race' created by Fedfans.

Few others do either, he's already strongly hinted he's not playing it, nor should he.
He's in the draw and got a walkover Wawrinka in Basel, so suspect he will show and check out the fraudulently fast courts.:D Plus everyone wants a shot at the Mad Lad.;)

Are you even watching the current tournaments?:sneaky: Djokovic's draw is brutal; Tsitsipas owns him and will be QF opponent and Medvedev red hot. Dull's draw is very workable as he owns the in form players and the rest not at their best. Better Fed than Med for SF.;)

Looks like some great opportunities to fill out his resume. The field is super competitive this year and Nadal doesn't usually let opportunities slip. Seriously doubt Djoko makes final. Fed? If Zverev shows for QF that could be the end for him.
