Wherever Fed is watching this, I hope it lights some fire in him for one last run and a good fall season. Rafa going through the motions now.
The fall season is of no importance in the GOAT race though. I hope he somehow finds a way to prevent Nadal from winning more Slams instead.

Of course I watch every Federer match anyway, but I’m just talking about the big picture here.

What a fight it will be between @StrongRule and @TennisFan3. :eek:
There is no fight. I'm just saying what I feel about the match.
I believe in calling as I see it. Just because someone likes a player, doesn't mean that one needs to kiss the ground beneath their feet.
So whether you are a Fed, Nadal or Djokovic fan - you can call them out when their tennis is not where it should be.

Well, he manages to hold. Nice backhand to force the error on the last point. But the match is still far from over. I doubt Med will collapse like in the second set in Montreal. He will keep fighting.

I just think he is not as good as everyone thinks. He has zero weapons.
I was exasperated at that last point specifically because he had a neutral ball sitter that he decided to push back up the middle, but then tried to hit a back foot winner up the line on a ball that Rafa lasered right at him 2 shots later.

That is the issue he has with novak/roger in non clay slams, if can win that 1st set against them then he may win that elusive match he hasn't for so long.His starts have been on hardcourt/grass matches against Fedovic.
I just read that Nadal's won his last 63 GS matches after winning the 1st set. :eek: I'm guessing his last defeat was against Fognini at the 2015 US Open, or possibly Verdasco at the 2016 AO?

I don't get it with RAFA. earlier this year, he was injured and could barely play indian wells, and now he is winning 2 slams ?? His body is holding up well or what........ I guess we won't be seeing rafa in year ending final this year... Gone fishing.

Like he found a way in Wimbledon? It will help if he stays in the game for as long as possible and stop Nadal himself.

I just want to see him play well and go into the offseason with hopes for AO. He needs to be motivated by this.

But let's be real, here's our frustration;

It's one thing to be annoyed if your guy isn't operating at 100% efficiency. You've seen him play better and know he can play better. I get it.

But read the room, understand the moment. He's running away with this match regardless. Who cares if this isn't 2013 Rafa? Complaining when he's already up a set & a break because you think he should be breadsticking this guy both sets is incredibly annoying.
