I don't know what you guys saw. Nadal played well and got the win. Deserved? No. He gamed that break of serve out of Daniil. He practically made Daniil play with 2 second serves for that game. That's not fitting for a champ.

By making Medvedev serve again, Nadal scopes out where the next shot is likely to go. Gives him a competitive edge in reading his opponent after his opponent just hit an ace, similar to what happens during a 2nd serve.

But really what I was getting at was the "1st serve" was the 2nd one Medvedev would have hit at that point, making it a 2nd serve.
It happened a few times in the 5th.

50/50 result: it is great that Nadal (of all players) is now one major away from a tie with Federer, but once again, The Can't Win A Major Legion holds firm and cannot-- no matter what they try--to defeat one of granddaddies. Another year filed away, and its ATP business as usual.

...including another 50,000 threads about how Nadal....

"Him aint win nothing but clay, so..."
"This major mean am nothing"
"Federer won the most night matches in days with...'day' in them!!"
"Even if Nadal wins 20 or passes Federer, he is not the Golden Eagle!"
...and the ever popular...
"Tennis am dead!" and any other attempt to move the goalposts to protect Federer, when the worst of his fans always used majors count as their criteria for GOAT-hood.

How did you do it? What did you do late in the third set to turn this around and get yourself into a classic match?

"To be honest in my mind I was already okay... uh... what do I say in the say in the speech?, uh... it's going to be soon in 20 minutes." LOL

I was impressed with his fight and his speech. I'm a new fan. Congrats to Nadal fans as well.

Wow! What an emotional wringer that was. Not the same as Wimby 2019, but close enough. But finally Rafa came through. I wish Wimby had had a similar result where Roger would have come through. Djoko fans will probably flame me for saying this (and I'm not taking away from his ability), but he always seems to get luck when he needs it the most.

I hope Medvedev takes away positives from this and leads the Next Gen pack. He's certainly the most fearless among them. Hoping to see more of him in the next few years.

Nadal was very lucky he was fully fresh for this final. Took a fresh Nadal everything in his tank to get through a physically beat up Medvedev. I think the landscape is looking pretty good for the next gen after this match. Hopefully Thiem, Zverev, Khachanov, Chung, etc all watched this match tonight and are driven to work harder so they can be ready to start bringing the hammer down on the big 3 starting in 2020.

Nice long cheer for Medvedev after an incredibly hostile 2 weeks by the NYC crowd to him.
and almost 5 hours of opponent stopping your service rhythm putting his racquet up
and racking up uncounted aces as the Dumpire looked the other way.

I mean why even be so motivated and focused taking Meds time with his watch
everytime when he wasn't the culprit of any time violation when serving.
Even till the end he had the eagle eye on Meds while serving knowing this.

Why not bring a fearless Umpire to patrol Trolldal like Bernie, the Meds would have won in straights

I think this was the more dramatic final; in the last three sets there was always a back and forth and multiple breaks. But the WI19 final only the final set was dramatic
You think?

For me I have sat through way too many Fedovic finals and semi-finals and was really thinking that Wimby2019 would go differently. Unfortunately, it didn't and it was incredibly heartbreaking. I don't think I'll ever recover from that one.

Not for one moment in W019 did Fed show an upperhand except when he had the chance to serve that match out
However the negativity and lack of belief from his wife was a contrast to what Nole was feeling which was the awareness
the match was on his racquet not Feds. Fed went and rushed through to give Nole the game by attacking the net at the
wrong time and serving below par etc etc. Nole had the crowd against him like Meds did but Fed didn't stop him from
serving or try to get in his head with Trolldal`s type of tactics and Nole`s experience is at another level to Meds.

I never like Feds arrogance, Noles needy love me please or Nadals cheating but this are the only characters we are
forced to follow. Like false idols just primed for guaranteed revenue for their sponsors, the Tennis monopoly doesnt
care for Tennis fans in so many areas. There is no chance of enjoying highlights from other sources longer than 3 minutes,
slow conditions for almost 2 decades forcing exciting players to stay on the baseline losing to hackery refusing to make
balls faster like the WTA has. WTA has more variety in Slam winners and less chance of hackers winning period.
Serena sure no fan of her, yet is a testament that the WTA has made sure power and risk taking usually beats Hackery.

It will be great for numbers to see Nadal win 20 slams and likely will win even more if balls are not made lighter or
in my long time opinion racquet sizes are not controlled like in formula 1 or many sports with more measures to reduce
the hackery which wins more often than not, the longer a match continues. Seeing Fed with a larger racquet would
not happen if my signature ideas were put in place. Then top 3 wouldn't be the only Slam contenders instead Nodal will be
around hacking everything back (even Mugfils motivated by younger Svitlona) denying attacking tennis for 5-6 years.
More and more selfie gens burn more braincells in earning brownie points in their virtual world than training extra to win.

Lastly walkovers should be rectified by allowing the loser if willing to play on if their conqueror is not able to this will
make sure old hackers are not fresh to unleash a defense style of play that defeats all the exciting risk takers.
Many still believe in players like Thiem like most did for Nishikori, Raonic and Poullie but until some intelligent measures
are not made it is going to be the same old same old

In retrospect, it seems to me, Nadal should thank Wawrinka for taking out Djokovic. Djokovic could have created more problems for Nadal but he struggles against Wawrinka.

Djokovic is nowhere near healthy enough to give Nadal or anyone else any trouble.

The one guy in the draw who was in form, physically ready and had the skills to challenge Nadal made it to the final and gave him hell. Medvedev.

There is not one person in the draw who could have been more deserving or done a better job.

All I can do is give kudos to both players, no matter what you think the quality of the match was (a lot of people were complaining early on). Nadal pulled through for his 19th slam - and that's no small feat - he was feeling real pressure as Medvedev worked his way back into the match. We think the Big 3 aren't human but they are - they get nervous/tight, they get tired. Nadal was facing the prospect of blowing an 0-2 lead to someone in their first Slam final. But, he prevailed. Medvedev did what NO other youngster (or anyone else for that matter outside Wawrinka and the other members of the Big 3/4) has done - keep grinding. The fact that he was down 2 sets and a break and never phoned it in. And, he was down 2-5, two breaks in the fifth and kept on competing, fighting and nearly got it to 5-5. He deserves a ton of respect. What seemed like a mundane final turned into a great match.

The attitudes in this thread absolutely suck. You guys just watched one of the greatest slam final matches (if not the greatest) since the 2012 Australian Open.

And all you guys do it **** and moan. Just disgusting.

Damn, why not revel in the moment of incredible high-level tennis in a slam final? Christ.

They can’t handle it. And frankly I don’t care if he holds the record for most slams. I just want him to win them. And happy he finally won a classic final after losing the past few.

And if Nadal had taken out Novak you would blame the left shoulder. With everyone in here for years that dislike Nadal, everything is downplayed or discredited. It’s always the same, but he wins and makes your lives miserable.

I’ve only been in this forum for a few weeks and can’t stand the Nadal hate. That was an epic match that showed his resolve. We need to celebrate that kind of performance, no matter the athlete, no matter the sport.

Oh Petal so sensitive new age of you to welcome cheating even if needed for a win.
The more we have of you primed consumers looking aside with ignorance all injustices
and critical thinking the better the consumer points you garner.

The Perfecting brownie point addicts are everywhere much like the episode of "Nosedive" in Black Mirror.

The only reason the match was great was because of the resilience of Meds fight
against all odds and 5 hours of Nadals cheating he showed incredible tenacity.
