The most emotional final in a while for me.

Upset for Serena. Extremely happy for Bianca. We have a new player somewhere on the tier of Henin in terms of having extraordinary variety and the ability to consistently win big.

Great officiating from chair umpire Alison Hughes. No unnecessary attempts to insert herself into the match, or to penalise the players after losing control of proceedings.

Absolutely and I also agree that the umpire did an excellent job and I thought reeled that crowd in as much as she could.

Andreescu will be fine on both clay and grass because she has great tactical ability.
Probably, but her main weakness - her second serve - will get more noticeable on clay, theoretically. It'll be interesting to see whether she can defend it well.
Regarding grass, there's always that question about how the movement and footwork have to be slightly tweaked to truly master the surface - meaning, the reason why Pliskova isn't that good on grass as one might have hoped looking at her strengths.
But yeah, she definitely has weapons to be great on both surfaces.

she's still making finals, fed was two points away from winning, why would either quit. i dont think people realize how incredible it is imo that serena just came back from giving birth for which she had complications, made it to 4 finals since.
you heard her say it just now. My team stays with me through the ups and downs, downs, downs, downs, and downs. It is getting to her and the Wimbledon final did affect Fed.

4. Andreescu
5. S. Williams
6. Kvitova
7. Osaka
8. Bencic

That would be one hell of a YEC. Serena will withdraw and wrap up her season now though.

Right, and she's always supposed to lose to everyone because "legs are gone."

Soooooooooo.

Anyway, massive congrats to Bianca and Canada. Hope Serena really gets some solid mental coaching after this one. She can still do it, if she can hold it emotionally to serve properly in a final.
Legs are gone and exposed fully again tonight. The kid got a bit nervous and Williams had a few swings that went in or it was 6-3 6-1, which was a fair reflection. Mental coaching and rocket fuel mean jack, when you play someone decent and the legs are shot. She is only getting to the finals because she isn't playing top level players before the final.

idk what it is but its seems both are meant to win together or something. last time she won, fed won his 18th and well she didnt participate in wimbledon and AO so doesnt count, and the next time she did they both kept failing

I like Bianca's entourage. An interesting cast, Mom, Dad, the hott girl (Brazilian?), surfer dude, a brother, and straight faced coach.
Why was Drake not there?
Kidding right? Haha. Used to date Serena, was in the players box for the epic 2015 USO SF choke to Vinci.

I love that Serena's liberal celebrity pals are disappointed.
That and seeing all the US journalists who cover sports on suicide watch. Even that idiot Evert who said "Serena empowered women" as if no woman ever won or even played pro tennis before her.

Congratulations Bianca. It must be nerve wracking to face a living legend in your sport in the first final but you held your nerve and won.

:) At one point, I was a gun-hole fan of Serena’s! But now after her true personality has come out, I am an anti-Serena fan. Still play the roll of a kind, gracious lady with a baby role too! LOL!

Congratulations to Brianca, 1st GS and U.S. Open Singles Champion!:)

Her mother is French.
Yeah, that often seems the case. I wonder if it was also because maybe the French tennis federation offered more support and what not. I guess it's down to the individual to say how they feel as long as they're eligible.

Bianca did well, at the end I really thought Serena was going to dig in and really, but alas it wasnt meant to be for her. Serena's body language was so down. It was sad to see. I expected a 3 set brawl

Anyway, I hope Bianca takes this and runs. Her biggest weakness as some have said, is that 2nd serve. However if Serena struggled to pounce on it, I think she will do ok. I cannot wait to see Bianca next year hopefully fully injury free playing a full season.

Is that why first serve wasn't going in? Legs gone?

Interesting that Svitolina now doesn't count as top player.....

I wasn't even excited at 5:5 - wish I had gone against my no-betting policy right then and put money on 7:5 cause I was truly sure of that being the final score.

Oh, well, at least it wasn't 6:1. That would have just been beyond rough.

Chrissie, Pam and Fowler make me want to give up watching tennis.
I solved that problem.
Nice and easy.
I have this thing on my computer where I can turn the sound off.
Works great!
But I made sure to turn it on when Bianca was doing well, just to hear them crying. :)

Serena fought, I thought when she broke to get on serve at 4-5 in the 2nd we were going the distance.... but sadly she couldn't do it. My personal feelings about Serena and her attitude aside, I really thought she would will her way through this match as a personal vendetta for having to retire in Canada. It stinks she lost, again in straights.

However, credit to Bianca for rising to the moment, she did an amazing job and didnt let Serena really find any rhythm. Good for her and I wish her the best going forward.
