Any news who will work with Sloane at US Open? Girl parted ways with Sven.
So there’s some huge drama on this one.

She’s reconnected with her old coach Kamau Murray who coached her to the 2017 US Open title.

What’s the drama you might ask? Kamau Murray was coaching Monica Puig, as recently as last week. He told her last Friday that he would not be travelling to NYC with her and didn’t give her a reason. Puig said she only found out he left her to rejoined with Sloane through Sloane’s tweet yesterday. She’s stunned and she’s now hired Dusan Vemic for the USO.

Puig was apparently left in tears and caught completely off guard, not a good look for Murray and Sloane.

They are rigging these things, and they're rigging without any shame whatsoever. Expect the men's draw to be a real crime against humanity...:censored:

Yeah, this pretty much confirms these draws are completely pre-planned.
At least for a few players.

As for Serena, I suppose they're now going for the "beating Sharapova is usually a good omen" angle.
The USTA throwing the kitchen sink at Court's stupid record so they can host the fairytale story.
I'd be afraid for any Serena opponent in this tournament, what with all the history and the record on the line, etc.
But, as I said before, it will be a relief for all when all this finally ends.

Sharapova may just be able to get her win against Serena this time around.

Thanks US Open. They really are throwing everything at Serena.

Inital gut reactions to the Draw

QFs
Osaka (if healthy) or Kontaveit vs Sabalenka
Halep vs Kvitova (honestly I have no idea who is coming out of that section but I think if shes at her best she will)
Keys vs Pliskova
Serena vs Barty or Sakkari

I'm probably going to be wrong on well...probably at least 6 of these choices LOL

You say that, but this kind of jumping ship business is not new. Coaches go where the money and/or personal interest is, and for Murray, some or all of that was not with Puig.

Ha, that is awesome. Our entire thread will be deleted in R1.

That made me laugh because its proablably true. I have the urge to name the members (and their alternate screennames) who will be responsible for the threat going down in flames, but I will just wait until they show up.

Which shatters the idiotic "fixing" consipracy theory vomited by ScentOfDefeat and others of his ilk on this board.

I've said this time and again" when Sharapova walks out on a court with Serena, she genuinely believes she can win. Her game, behavior and posturing all scream that to anyone who has watched this player over the years. Believing alone may not be enough, but for anyone with any measurable skill to g along with it, it could be enough to lead to victory.

So, I will go ahead and say Sharapova in three, but she will not make it to week two.

As for Serena, if she loses, I predict she will radically alter her training and possibly skip AO 2020, in order to be fit/focused enough to have great chances at the other three 2020 majors.

Why would yu think sharapova is going to win this match. She is playing terrible.

Probably something to do with the fact that Serena practically collapsed in pain during her last match 4 games in? Serena's physical condition is questionable going into this tournament. However I will say overall she seems to be in one of the easier quarters. 5 WCs/Q's/LL's and only Sevastova to be a big threat to her IF her body is healthy. Sharapova is someone I think she has a huge mental edge over...she gets fired up every time she has to play her after losing that Wimbledon Final. However if Serena's body isn't ready I could see Sharapova, for 1 match, raising her level out of pure anger at being beaten how many times in row now be Serena and taking her out.

Sure but unless Serena is really injured, Sharapova is playing awful. Her year has been a disaster. She is scraping WCs just to get in tournaments.

I just think its totally ridiculous that Bouchard ranked 119th in the world gets a direct entry into a tournament like this. But oh well.

Too wide open, too many with questionable fitness / form.
So hard to pick a winner.

I'd like to see Badosa and Bogdan do well - both having to qualify.

Like to see Sakkari go far.

Other than that, it's totally up to the tennis gods!

I definitely think she was injured/hurting in Canada. I believe that is the first time in her career she has ever retired in a tournament final. Has she pulled out of her fair share of tournaments throughout the years? Sure. But when she is in a final, she is there to win. Whether her body has bounced back well...we will see soon enough.

When you start thinking your job sucks, think about Sharapova's dress designer. Dude lost nights and nights working on it and the dress will probably only last a night on the spotlight.

On other news, Bencic on Osaka/Halep/Andreescu/Stephens' half, while Kenin is on Serena/Barty's.

Other potential interesting matches that I think nobody has already mentioned are Svitolina-Osuigwe in the 1st round and an eventual Osaka-Gauff in the 3rd.

This is no ordinary match-up. This is the sport's history, and all manner of personal/social/ideological politics at work between the two, so Sharapova will always play "like she's never played before" when it comes to Serena. You should expect intensity that will overshadow all other matches at this USO.

Krejcikova retired during her 2nd round Qualies after only playing 1 game. Down 0-1 on 1st set against A. Muhammad. Looks like pulled some right foot muscle during one of the rally. Not obvious from the slow motion, didn't look like she twisted her ankle/foot. Must be one of those freak incident that some muscle just got pulled. Has to be one of the quickest retirement.

Absolutely no idea who's gonna win this thing, so I picked Serena in the poll just for the fact that if she continues to make GS finals, she's bound to win one eventually....right?? :X3:

The Rena/Maria 1st round matchup reeks of draw fixing, I must say.....
