Bencic is back to #10 (from #12) and Bianca is in top 10 for the first time at #8 (up from previous career high of 14). Drama queen or not, that's an impressive meteoric rise for the 19yo youngster from Canada, "ay"?

do you think so? idk bianca wasn't amazing tonight, and serena is playing much better than she was at wimbledon, she's moving better and not as erratic

Well Serena has played great in QFs and semis only to crumble in finals. I don't think C game is gonna do it with Andreescu, to say the least.

That said, Serena is the one showing better form, and I don't see how one could argue otherwise. So I guess it's about who peaks in the final. Andreescu may be ripe to peak after so many ugly performances. Serena may have spent her good days. Who knows.

But if they both play as they did tonight, Serena imo is going to win.

I think we all jinxed her when she got the double break. Man, can’t believe she lost it like that. I felt she was the better player, until she went up the double break and suddenly can’t hold serve anymore. Disappointing.

Thinking the final will be a good one, though. No way Belinda could put up a fight with Serena if she fell apart so easily in that second set. Bianca will go all in.

honestly, not that i could have guessed halep would do what she did, but the way she came into the final i was like ehhh, where as this tournament, she looks to be playing really well and not just getting by.

i also haven't caught a lot of bianca, i watched her match against taylor well part of it and then this mess (sorry was going for belinda, god damn girl) but i she doesnt get those serve numbers up, idk if it will look good.

bianca is so cool. going to be an epic final against serena. don't even know who will win. going to be close. i give the fitness and movement to bianca. power with a slight edge to serena. serve to serena. shot making equal. and consistency probably to bianca.

Agree with that assessment except I give consistency to Serena. Versatility and mental fortitude I give to Bianca.

You didn't think Serena looked good in W coming into final? IDK, I thought she pretty comprehensively outplayed Strycova in SF and her match against Riske was damn good, Riske played incredible and had had the most successful grass season out of anyone up to that point.

Hell last year Serena looked great coming into USO F, only had issues with Kanepi who played really well and is a nightmare at slams.

She seems to "spend" her good days in QFs and SFs, kind of like she peaks too soon or something.

I haven't been crazy impressed with Andreescu, I've criticized her serve ITT a lot, but the fact that she's in slam F despite screwing up so much is pretty scary. She may well peak and play her best on Saturday.

But again if she's like this and Serena doesn't dip from today, Serena will win.

At one point Bianca was losing like 75% of her second serves. What's going on with that?
Serena is the best returner and will eat up those second serves if Bianca does not fix that.

Even with the insurance break, Bencic still wasn’t able to capitalize the 2nd set. What a meltdown that was.

It seems Bianca was more prepared for the occasion than Benicia even though Bencic looked more relaxed and confident at first. Such strange turn of events.

Given that Benicia was 5-2 up, she should have been able to at least push a TB. Just terrible from Bencic.

i agree. good points. this us open turning very interesting, especially with berrentini and nadal. anyways, back to women's tennis on saturday :D

Sourena is playing and moving well. Will definitely be favored.
Bianca might possibly wilt under the pressure of first major final against a legend.

This is the same stuff people have said about every slam final. I remember saying Halep was the favourite and everyone just said hand the trophy to Serena. Bianca hasn’t lost a match since March, remember that.

Rematch of the Toronto final, which never reached a MP due to Serena’s back spasms.

Let’s hope we get a full fledged fight for the title and one where nobody but the two players are what we remember about the championship.

didn't she also have a tough 3 setter in an early round. i mean i guess she did here too but i feel like her movement is definitely much better and she has a bit more match practice now as well

how do you see the match playing out and do you see any differences, if any, between serena now and serena during wimbledon

Impressed that Serena ran over Svitolina - didn't see that scoreline coming. She looks better than she has in a long time. As others have pointed out, she's had some recent nervy Slam finals, where she wasn't up to the task and looked pretty terrible. Hopefully she performs well, win or lose, on Saturday. She looks infinitely better than a year ago but, still, there's only so many more chances to tie Court's Slam count record (and if she does thereafter possibly eclipse it).

Not really. She didn't look bad per se, but I wouldn't say she looked "good." At this USO, I didn't think she looked good at all until the QFs and SFs, where suddenly she's looked very good.

Bianca is fully capable of messing up a perfectly good match and drag it to no end. She wastes a lot of energy as a result. Needs to be a lot more patient than this. She’s only 19 so I suppose she’ll learn to adjust at some poInt.

Yeah but Bianca just punishes serves and first serves as well and if Serena has a slow start like she usually does and her serve is off then Bianca could roll it in.

You've read the threads on this board, right? Its always anyone except Serena Williams.

So I guess it's about who peaks in the final. Andreescu may be ripe to peak after so many ugly performances. Serena may have spent her good days. Who knows.

Unlike Andreescu, Serena's matches have displayed better form and a quick dismantling of her opponents' games. The only roadblock to her winning is on the emotional side: as in the USO where she was going for the Grand Slam, this time, its the 20th anniversary of her first majors win--historic across the board--and the magnitude of that might distract her...or it might empower her. Only time will tell.

But if they both play as they did tonight, Serena imo is going to win.

Rational.

I'm not saying she's not looking well, she is. But idk, she seems as good as last year. People forget she played really well last year coming into finals because that final overshadowed everything.

She was winning something like 80 percent of all first serves throughout all six of her matches last year. Her stats were crazy.

I don't think she needs MORE than what she showed today (esp if Andreescu keeps playing like this). I just question if she's gonna keep it up in the final or if we're about to see another letdown/if SF was her peak.

Andreescu is winning so ugly that I REALLY hope Serena makes it.

TBH, it all depends on which Serena shows up. Serena of today could show up but suddenly collapse in a match when she realizes the pressure and history. It's been happening alot against players she either has a winning h2h having never lost a set. I just hope for some good tennis either way.

According to this thread's poll, the TT armchair experts are dead on the money for this year USO ladies final. Congrats to ourselves.

I think Serena is playing some super focused tennis right now. She doesn’t like to to talk about 24, but everyone knows it’s possible including Bianca. The US Open result won’t be the same as the Canadian Open. I’m not saying it will be a straight sets match, but see Serena taking this one.

Jeez, Swiss tennis fans just can't get a break. Stan and Rog mugging it up big time and now Bencic just blundering. Another one for Serena and Rafa.

Well let's clear up this stat.

The stat doesn't say that the second serve point was lost on the returner's first shot.
It just says that the point was eventually lost by Andreescu.

If Serena doesn't put away the point on her first hit and the rally can be neutralized by Andreescu, it's anyone's point.

Not so fast!
The poll only closed a few days ago when it was fairly obvious who would be in the final. :)
And BTW, it would be 15:14 for Andreescu had I managed to get my vote in before the deadline.
