Interesting symmetry between WTA and ATP finals: a GREAT vs the hottest up and coming young player of the moment in their first GS final.

Oh... and another one... same finalist pairs as at the Rogers Cup few weeks ago. Will the symmetry extend to the same winners?

Just saw her post-match interview. So very true - poise. Very graceful loser and pleasant.

I wouldn't put too much stock into those post match interviews. The players will say scripted lines and pander to political correctness and virtue signal. Only Kyrgios speaks his mind in those things, the rest of them are too afraid to.

Also that's Bencic, not Andreescu.

Yeah, I know that's Bencic. I thought the original post was saying about Bencic. I misread the original post. I think that video is less "scripted" than the usual post-match interviews.

Wimby and USO are so annoying in that thing. I know you're a Roger fan but every time in Wimby it's seems like more about Roger and Serena losing than Novak and Kerber/Halep winning.

its weird because wimbledon is the only one where im okay with it, i can't explain why. i keep thinking if fed spoke on his own he might break down so i was so thankful they just interviewed him but for USO it just throws everything off.

some of these questions are better left for the press conference tbh.

Only 65 points from No2 and 749 points from No1.
I don't want to say it but we already know that anything crazy is possible for her.

That said, Serena is the one showing better form, and I don't see how one could argue otherwise. So I guess it's about who peaks in the final. Andreescu may be ripe to peak after so many ugly performances. Serena may have spent her good days. Who knows.

Andreescu did peak in the final and Serena didn't. Serena's groundstrokes were fine but her first serve disappeared. The way Bianca played, I'm not sure Serena would have won even if her first serve went up to 60% though.

The reason why 1st serve was not working is because she was intimidated and knew that she was losing to this girl.

I agree that Serena was intimidated and felt like she couldn't afford to take anything off the first serve just to get it in. I kept noticing how many first serve faults Bianca returned in as pretty good shots anyway such that had the serve gone in, Serena would have been put on the defensive.

60, nah. Needed around 80 imo.

Agree her groundstrokes were quite good and may have bailed her against a lesser player..

@THUNDERVOLLEY

You have done nothing but ****-talk her the entire thread, and in other threads as well. Dismiss her as all hype. Why was everyone talking about her? Who is the US Open 2019 Women's Singles Champion?

She/he? did the same thing when DJokovic won his first slam. Said he was a lucky clown who wouldn't win another slam. No eye for talent, so likes to troll.

Wow, that's a stunningly bad prediction. No wonder TV is still so dismissive about Djokovic.

She knew that from the first service game onward? Doubtful.

Serena is burdened by the history and that’s very apparent.
I was not talking about the first game. Anyone can df in first service game. Why is it a big deal? If she didn't play well, it's her fault. To me it was clear that Bianca was outplaying her from the start. What is the excuse for losing 2/3 of Second serves?
If she played her worst match, that was because of Andreescu.

Anybody watching the doubles? Barty/Azarenka vs Mertens/Sabalenka. Could be fun. Maybe a bit loud though.

I'll call them Merbalenka for now. They just broke for 6-5 and will serve for the first set.

First game was crucial to the first set, and it's a big deal because it sets the tone and tells the other side off the bat that you're nervous af.

Of course it's her fault she didn't play well. That's kind of the point. Confused about yours since you're first saying"it's her fault" and then "if she played her worst match, that was because of Andreescu." Which is it?

It's no one's fault but Serena's own that she plummets on first serve each time she reaches a slam final in NY. Where Andreescu excelled, I thought, was in matching her ground game so exceptionally well. Serena was hitting pretty well in the first set, serving aside, and Andreescu managed it adeptly. If she hadn't, Serena would have overcome her nerves and might well have come back into it.

I'm sure having someone so adept at matching ground game further got into her head and made it that much harder to get the first serve back on track.

I've only got home now... Has Sabalenka rambled and begged for Tursunov aka D to come back?

And a fine USO for Mertens. Title in doubles, QF in singles, pushing the eventual champion to 3 sets. Fine indeed.

She thanked D in the instagram post. Along with the infamous Jason whom (After take a peek on the profile) is a performance coach.
And he's fine.

I’m still too busy laughing at her Instagram story

ED93T2iXsAI2I87.jpg

Full pic of Serena and then just a small little “Congrats Bianca on the win”

It would just be funny if it wasn't exactly what pundits and the majority of media outlets do.
Making everything a footnote to the Serena narrative, that is.
