Honestly, seems like people here are getting worked up over Kyrgios not just because he can be arrogant and immature at times on court, but because he's not afraid to voice an unpopular opinion of their favorite player(s) off court.

I'm sure that the likes of Connors, McEnroe, and Rios were similarly disparaged by the moral police of their day, but we can all appreciate the quality of their tennis. If this were public office, I could sympathize with the hate for Nick, but this is a damn sport. If someone can make other pros look silly on the court despite having no coach and limited motivation, I'm going to enjoy those moments of brilliance while I can.

I see your point but it's not that he only voices unpopular opinions and that's it. **** like "Kokkinakis banged your girlfriend" and arguing with random fans are not and should never be part of the game.

I'll guarantee you that 90% of the people hating on Nick here have never seen him play a full match.

Att the end of the day, he is a ticket seller. There are things to fix, but he is a showman.
Att 2-0 second set he just did all that theatre alone. It began with an absolutely unnecessary twiner. It's the moment that the other show begins.
And it's fun.

Honestly, I think people are too harsh on him for the "Kokkinakis banged your girlfriend" thing. If the court mic hadn't caught it, nobody would've even known what he said. You've got other people swearing under their breath in different languages on court and I have no idea what they're saying.

Do you also think that Fognini should not be part of the game? IMO his sexist rants are much worse than anything Nick has done.

I enjoyed the match actually. It was fun to watch and it was dead even. Serve stats and points won were equal. Lots of great serving and winners. Tsitsipas needs to be warned now about having the appropriate equipment with him and if that means having a half dozen pairs of replacement shoes, and with extra strong laces, then that's what should be done. By allowing him to continue to have this "problem" they are saying it doesn't matter whether or not the game is delayed over this and it does matter. I like Tsitsipas. I like guys with a little sass and swagger but the shoe thing is ridiculous.

I agree that Fognini's sexist rants are much worse. And I am not saying that him or Kyrgios should not be part of the game. But some disciplinary action should be in place to make sure that these events don't happen again. It's tennis, not MMA.

Kyrgios has been fined for a bunch of things, though. Do you think suspension is warranted for him breaking rackets?

But have the fines worked? They haven't. Maybe a limited time suspension would do the trick. It would help him clear things in his head.

And obviously not for breaking rackets, everybody does that.

I don't know - modifying the severity of a punishment by person based on the likelihood that said person repeats the action sounds like a slippery slope to me.

You don't punish them for the likelihood they repeat the action but for the action itself. And yes it is a slippery slope therefore every case (they are not that many) needs to be examined individually, like doping for example.

The only thing that I think Kyrgios could even remotely get fined for is tanking. He doesn't commit enough ball/racket abuse to get fined for either. You can be an ass all around and not do anything that justifies a fine.
