2019 Wilson Blade

:-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D i mean.. seriously what are we supposed to do w/out a like button here... this made me laugh out loud.

@TW Staff
agreed, if they don't put the "like", button back, we're going to go back to posting simple useless replies of thread that read:

"I agree"!!

@TW Staff are you guys working on this??
ive been looking at the update thread to see if any mention of what might be going on with the site ?????????

On a serous note don’t string this thing with 4g guys. Basically feels like 4g adds RA that Wilson took out of cv version albeit easier on the arm.

It is arm friendly but it really reminded me of 300g but with 18x20 instead of 16x19. I bet open patter v7 blade feels even softer and even closer to 300g.
Next I’ll string it with my string so I can directly compare it to gravity pro.

I can’t say that I gelled with it on my one handed bh like 93p but as time went on I hit some impressive backhands just didn’t feel as natural or precise on that wing like rf97a did or 93p or pro tour 630 for that matter.

It’s still one of the better racquets that one can buy right now just maybe not in the same classic league

Ok it turns out I dont know what I am talking about gravity tour.. for some reason it felt not enough head light but turns out dead on spec.. it was about 304gr unstrung and 6pts hl... so now here are the specs

Blade 18x20 unstrung
304.5gr
32.4cm 6pts hl

Blade 16x19
301.1gr
32.5cm 6pts hl

Gravity tour strung + yonex overgrip
326.8gr
33cm 4pts hl
Sw 324-328... as accurate as I can get with in house manual measurement

Sounds like you are all set on QC. The 18x20 will be pretty dead on it.

Yeah you always gotta go with your strings of choice, especially on first impressions.

I love my backhand with the Blade a lot. But I also hit a 2 hander so its a bit different.

4g isn't a good string for Blade. I tried many types of poly and the best is Head Hawk Touch 17g.

It just brings out the best in the Blade by offering control so you can swing out and not worry about balls flying out.

I wouldn't recommend power strings because the Blade has plenty of power.

Tzitzipas might have a thing or two to say about that.

Have been playing for last three years with Blade 2015 18x20 strung with 4G and I don't agree on this one with you. In my opinion 4G is one of the best strings for Blade. It really allows you to hit aggressively and with confidence and not worrying about ball going out. You have to have solid stroke mechanics and fast swing speeds though. Plenty of control and controllable power plus excellent tension stability.

I agree with you on the tension maintenance and power but I didn't like how stiff the string felt on the Blade even if the Blade is one of the more comfortable racquets when strung with poly. What tension do you have it strung at on the Blade?

24/23kg. Eventhough it is stiff on specs it doest't feel this way. String gets softer the harder you hit.

So how would you rate these in regard to each other? Sorry if I missed your post on this...

I just received all these frames so I am looking at a lot of hitting to be able to compare.. only hit with Gravity Tour but just one hour.... Tour is a tricky one for me.
I am not used to 4pts HL setup.. I was surprised how sluggish that felt since my regular stick is 340gr 8pts HL. Gravity felt little bit more tiring and i was late on ground strokes. That is the only ding I have so far (just one hour tho). I was very impressed with stability and heft on volleys and over-heads.. super solid... which i really enjoyed. What did not stand out right away was control (I had little bit higher expectations). It was decent but nothing to blow my mind. Honestly this could be all user-error. If i am late then i will hit with more error and less ability to control the direction. What felt really good was plow. When you time it right it pretty much hits the crap out of the ball. So last night, I added some putty and got the strung weight (with dampener) to even higher to 334gr. and 7 HL. I am curious if this will be a better fit for me.

I haven't even strung up the blades yet.. This weekend will be blade hitting!!

Well if you don’t get insane control with the 18x20 Blade, we will need to get some video review of your technique..haha. But honestly, I think you will really like that aspect of it. Normally when I get control this precise and tight I anticipate exhaustion after 2 hours of play due to no power. Thankfully the Blade has me stringing a little tighter than I expected. Control, IMO is almost underrated on these boards but when combined with some power it can honestly win matches. At the end of the day, tennis boils down to not making too many mistakes.

I wish all these blade threads would merge I can’t keep track of where is my post lol

The 300 is a cool comparison. I forgot about that one, but I remember how much lead I had to put on it to get any punch from the frame. I do remember hitting with years ago with that frame around 11am on hardcourts in hot sun and realized at that point that I need more from a frame besides just feel. Lol.

totally fair point.. Though, my strokes should be pretty solid... 2 coaches are on me and that is probably the strongest part of my game... baseline ground stokes... it's probably the head heavy setup... i do get insane control on vcp97 except elbow didn't like it... i even get respectable control in my princes (16x18)... G Tour control is good, i was just not blown away by it. it's also just one hour.. people asking for initial impressions so I am writing down what really left an impression.. this is not by a far stretch of imagination is a full review. I would usually not say anything but people do ask... anyways.. i am super psyched for blades...

If we are talking about the 18x20 you can and should go down to 21kg with 4G. I string it at 23Kg with my 98S with no control issues.

Yeah I played it to Almagro specs at the time becuase it was dead to me in stock form. I bet if good al 'magro was still on tour he would go with Wilson Blade 16x19 v7.

If you got good control with the VCP97, strap in. You are going to be real happy. Only thing may be about timing, the 18x20 could be sluggish for some people. But if you can spend the time to sort it out over a month or so, I think the SW will become a major advantage. It’s a frame I know I will commit the next 2-3 weeks of heavy play to and then if it continues to play as I am expecting, Ill buy a matched pair from TW and be all set.

One frame I still have that kind of reminds me of that Dunlop is 16x19 Tec 315. One of the few 16x19s I liked over the 18x20. The Tec still needed lead, and I just checked mine out again, I put around 5 grams under the bumper to get the SW close to 330, but without that it was anemic. It actually hits a big ball with some lead but at the cost of weighing 345 grams.

Argh. I so badly want to take the plunge. I literally am switching between an Babolat PA Your and an Angell TC95 320g 70RA 12pts head light.

This racket seems like a nice flexy alternative with more head heavy in comparison to maintain good swing weight. Would really like to have a frame that provides a small amount of free power but isn't limited to baseline play. I think I'd like to see how this plays with a hybrid string setup.

18x20, 16x19, you all are distracted from the real frame 98s uresh

Where's the like button when I need it!!

I LIKE this comment (I am just going to obnoxiously write this for stuff that I like.... passive aggressive protest to TW)
Social media firms may be forced to turn off their ‘like’ functions in effort to keep children safer online under new strict web rules.

The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has published a draft code to protect children ‘within the digital world’, suggesting new standards for online services likely to be accessed by children.

It seems too many children here :)

I should rephrase my 4g statement to be more inclusive of all. What I wanted to say is IF you want v7 to play like v6 and prefer stiffer deader feeling blade 4g is excellent option.
If you prefer some pop and prefer to retain more comfort go with softer poly. IMHO i did not find much better than typhoon (I actually prefer it to Alu)

Curious did you guys pay extra for expedited shipping? Just wondering why mine hasn’t even shipped yet.

Plus you’re playing it stock. Tail weight a blade with 4G with 10+ grams at the butt like Tsitsipas and 4G setup will feel more “plush.”

Valid for all poly strings and therefore poly is not a good choice for beginners and intermediate players.

I completely agree with you. I would just add that Blade 18x20 in my opinion is not a racquet for beginners and intermediate players:)

Yep, it (300G) was my first racquet, but I eventually added 8g to 3/9, covered the bumper with 2 layers of head tape, and put 14g of fishing sinkers under the butt cap. I think it came out to 11.8oz, 5pts hl, and anyone's guess on the swing weight (325?). The best thing about the 300G for me was that I didn't know anything about this forum and wasn't concerned with other options. Hit it for at least five years. But you're right, with mods, I basically turned my 300G into a Blade. Actually switched to the KBlade from the Dunlop ...

I read your post.. i feel for you.. something must have gone wrong... i did regular and got the string and the frames (both) on the anticipated day... yday... i would say definitely call them.

Have you tried max power rough? I love this string and probably will end up going with it in the Blade unless it doesn’t work well or Hawk touch blows me away. Just curious how typhoon compares there. All the strings I have tried are very similar - I like softer control polys and at this point just look for the best match in terms of feel. I have not even written off RS Lyon yet. RS works for me in pretty much everything.

Emailed them and they said "it looks like your item is being prepared for shipping" WTF
