2019 Wilson Blade

I use full bed of Revolve Spin 17G @ 58/59 - pretty low energy return. I still want spin access. I know I won't be able to get it as much as the Pure Aero. I'm still tentative when playing, since I'm not quite used to what to expect from certain shots. Serves are certainly different.

Hmm down to the blade pro 18x20 and original v7 blade 18x20. So far have tested pure aero vs, radical mp, vcore 95.

Blade v7 og still leads the pack but want to test it more against the BP. Will write up a more detailed review later.

I’m playing about 4-5x a week and have 3 v7 blades. I rotate them as strings break. I’ve had them about 1.5yr and all three are starting to chip in various places just from normal wear play no abuse.
I really like this racquet but that’s my biggest complaint is paint.
Should I just pick up 3 more blade v7 and store them or should I just try and repair the frames every 6 months or so with putty / paint.
At the rate I’m chipping them I don’t see them lasting another year or so before I’ll need new ones.

I've been playing with my Son's V7 18x20 for a few weeks and I do like it. I've been playing the PA for a couple years -- never LOVED it. Came from the 2015 Blade 98S -- I still have two. I might demo a V8 in in 16m and 18m just to check them out and the V7 16 if I still can.

It does not have the spin potential of the PA -- I've been adjusting to it -- it still has plenty of spin - it just takes a little more "umph" in some cases. I like the control and feel of the racket much more than the PA.

the 2015 blade 98S was such a unique good frame. i havent found anything quite like it.

Interesting. Have you hit the gravity MP? I’m hitting it weighted up to 12 ounces, 7pt headlight, A few grams in the hoop, most weight in the handle with a heat shrink sleeve and leather grip.
I know this is an ancient post I'm responding to...but did you try the Gravity Tour? How did it compare to your weighted-up MP? How did the weighted-up MP play? (others have said that it doesn't respond well to lead tape). I am currently playing GTour extended 1/4". It plays great but I would like a little more spin and was wondering if I should try the MP (and probably extend it as well). Would love to hear your experience.

Hi can someone link the OEM Wilson blade V7 black replacement grip? I want to try taking this leather off to reduce static weight. I trashed the original black one. Do they sell the same one that came original with the blade? I see a bunch online but not sure which one that went with the blade.

The blades usually use the Wilson Sublime as the stock grip.

Getting back to these frames after spending some time with the speed pro. Man these sticks rule, such gems, never gonna sell em.

Just found the God Tier hybrid setup too, NRG2/Yonex Strike at #50/46. Unbelievable combo in this frame.

Just switched in September to this from the Pure Drive. I love the Pure Drive, I really do. I can’t bring myself to sell them. However, my arm issues were a challenge. I have a V7 18x20 and love it. I get more in and I have some confidence. I feel pretty consistent and I am really enjoying hitting with it. I find this amazing because it is so different than the Pure Drive, smaller head size, less power, and tight string pattern. It has only been like 10 sessions, but my groundstrokes have benefited, though backhand slice is mediocre, and volleys need some work. That’s all adjustment though. I really look forward to using it each time, excellent control.

Anyone still play with this?

I will get a second in the spring get or if I see a good deal.

*Context, 4.5 baseliner, mid 40s.

It's what I keep going back to, for me this will be a HOF frame

Played doubles tonight with it, I just can’t get past mediocre to crap volleys. I switched to my Pure Drive briefly, that racquet is so awesome to volley with, but I had to switch back to the Blade shortly after because of arm pain. Would it be the swing weight screwing me up?

Could be. Which version is it? There’s always the usual stuff to try - looser tension, softer string, cushion grip, etc. you could try and add a little weight at 12, but imo the PD works best without weight.

It’s a 2018 PD Tour, I think the swing weight is less than the 18x20 Blade making the PD more maneuverable at the net. I may have to add some weight to the handle of the Blade.

For me swingweight doesn't muck me up as much as static weight or balance on volleys. You might just be more used to your PD if that's your goto frame. This stick volley's pretty great for me, but different strokes for different folks

I'm just about hitting 30 hours on this setup — I normally only keep in polys for about 14-20 hours max, but tension and feel is still holding up great still. Overall dt has only dropped 8lbs since stringing; strings are starting to not snap back in place but really this frame and this pair of strings...*chef's kiss*

I remember demo-ing this frame way back when with a fb of 4g and that's a no no for me, but really find this frame plays well with a stiffer string in it even in half bed. I think I'll revisit NRG/Strike even lower maybe 48/44

Oh mah gawd. Just bought a v7 16x19 cause of the 30% off sale strung full bed 4G rough 40 lbs. Not sure how much is the string and how much is the racquet but its so firm and solid yet comfortable enough. Really good ball pocketing with a very unique firm impact feeling that lets the ball pocket but resists for super control and consistency. Can swing out as much as you want ball always finds the court instead of launching. Amazing control on every shot, slices stay low instead of floating or launching way too high like with other racquets. Makes me actually enjoy my weakest stroke one hand topspin backhand.

Never had a racquet with so much control and solidity and naturally always dropping the ball in the court. Just seems to sacrifice some power for this effect its like it absorbs ball energy at impact to redirect with ultimate control.

4G rough is apparently ironically much more firm and lacks the pillowy soft sinking of regular 4G despite being way less stiff so I'd put a soft string in crosses next time.

Restrung at 48/44, this is it — this is the god tier setup.

Posting this here so that blade V7 users know it. I swapped the bumper&grommets on my v7 with the new v9s. The good news is that:
1- they weight the same
2- the lateral grommet strips fit well, the top bumper also fit well after a bit of heatgun

Unfortunately the neon grommets didn’t fit, I had to enlarge the holes on the bumper. The grommet channel on the v7 is a bit longer than on the v9. Not the end of the world but far from what I’d call a perfect fit.

Pic for anyone interested:

So after V8 and V9 (and many other offerings) I thought it would be cool to see where’s everyone gone from the V7.

In my case I got a few V8s (18x20) and I thought I’d move on from the V7 (also 18x20) but after almost 2 years I still keep coming back to the V7 for its stability and plow. I also kept the V8s and still rotate between the two.

Have 5 of the Blade Pro V7’s 16x19. All in great shape and will last me a long while. Have new bumper guards for all of them and very little wear on the originals.

I moved from my V7 98 (16x19) to a V8 100L (weighted to match a V8 100).
I compared my V8 to a V9 100 and they were too similar to make the switch.
I brought my V7 98 and V8 100L to the court a few days ago and decided to retire my V7 98.

Give it one last chance!

I moved on from the blade to the gen 4 pure strike 16/19. Honestly the flex is kind of similar which is crazy to say about a babolat but it feels like a stiffer v7, like it flexes similarly just to a lesser extent.

Still have my v7 18x20 sitting in my bag. My 16 year old son recently tried it and he absolutely loved it, albeit a little too heavy. I have moved on to the Yonex VCore 95 2021 and 2023 most recently. Prior to the VCore, was playing the Duel G 330g, VCore Pro 310g 2019 through to 2021 models including the 97D.

I did try and hit with my v7 18x20, but is too much of an adjustment from my VCore’s.

Nice. Do you know the specs of your BPs?
Specs are all over the place with Wilson quality control or the lack there of. They are all customized to 320-322 static weight unstrung with Wilson leather grips and Wilson Pro overgrips. Balance is very close on all of them. Required tail weighting them and lead tape at 3/9 to get them all close. They are close enough that it doesn’t affect me going from frame to frame.
