Just awful and Pliskova does as only Pliskova can do and she's broken in the 2nd set, Zhu serving for the set up 6-5.

She had three sitters on break point and blew them all.

Oh wow the players sit down but Pliskova challenges and it's in. 30-40!

Zhu breaks anyway, classic.

Some fantastic play from Pliskova but none of it on the 4 break points she's had. Deuce.

Fantastic from Zhu to give her yet another set point.

Halep appears to have done some damage to her lower left leg. Won the first set against Sasnovich but went down on one of her points, currently on a MTO.

Halep injured in the 1st set but manages to hold on to the break lead and take the set. Medical TO to tape up her left foot/ankle.

Zhu has won one main draw match this year which was against Mertens in Dubai.

Pliskova saves three set points to break and force a tiebreak.

Sasnovich had been playing better in the 2nd half of 1st set. But after a DF, she gets broken in the 1st game of the 2nd set.

Pliskova doesn't make it easy for herself but she gets it done 6-2 7-6 over Zhu.

Next faces the winner of Puig/Schmiedlova.

Sasno breaks back. But still playing higher risk tennis with more UEs than Halep. Simona not venturing to the net as much as her opponent. Hoping the foot/ankle does not become an issue again.

Hardly a big upset with Sabalenka losing to the 2017 SFist Rybarikova who is excellent on grass.

Rybarikova plays the winner of the Venus v Gauff match. Sabalenka was in the 8th of the draw that included Halep, Kasatkina and Keys as well as unseeded Venus and Azarenka. Opens it up a bit.

On serve. Easy hold from each player in the last 2 games. But Halep has the trainer out again. Massaging left thigh. Probably strained when her left ankle was tweaked in the 1st set.

Simona was up 40-0 in 6th game but gets broken. Aliak hold easily. Now up, 5-2

Classic Halep.
What a great 2019 she's having.
Loses in regular tournaments: "no problem, I'm relaxed, it's preparation for the next Slam".
Loses in the Slam.

And #7 Halep escapes an injury scare to knock out Sasnovich 6-4 7-5.

Tough for the Belarussian who was defending 4R points after knocking out Kvitova in the 1R last year.

Wow, Ostapenko drops 40 spots in the live rankings with her SF points off, she's down to #77. Really needs to beat Hsieh.

A lesser conditioned player would probably not have fared as well after the injury as Simona. Was able to play thru it but undoubtedly needs further post-match PT to minimize its effect going forward.

Very solid match from Novak and his serve has been impressive so far. Was wondering how his lack of practice (on grass) after Roland Garros would affect his matches at Wimbledon, but he looks good.

Can Osaka get her revenge less than two weeks after losing to Putintseva in Birmingham?

Players hitting on court now, not long til they start.

Hmm, could not seem to find Novak in the Ladies' Singles draw. Which quarter of the draw is he in? BTW, he did get in a couple of rounds at The Boodles last week. But lost in 2 sets to Denis Shapo. Enuff practice? Perhaps

Interesting that Djokovic is playing both men’s and women’s singles. Impressive stuff indeed
