ROTFL, keep dreaming. Simona will lose to Svitolina in the semis if she doesnt choke (although given that this is Svitolina it wouldnt surprise me). The over the top Halep love here is absurd, i didnt realize I was on www.Simonamakesmewet.com or she had a crazy Federer like fanatic base here. Does her lover Darren Cahill have 20 alt accounts here, that are all now active that broadcasting is done for the day.

Glad I put my $5000 down on a Serena win given who is left, will be the easiest money I ever made.
Like last year and every event she has played since returning, first quality TENNIS player she faces beats her. The slight niggle is Simona shows Williams too much respect. As for Svitolina at her best she could win this and she would relish playing Williams. Her serve is too weak though to beat Simone and it has been a problem all year.

In theory Simona is toast.

She is the one top tier player that never makes a dent on Svitolina even slightly.

So as long as the Ukrainian is not injured or ill, she will prevail.

'Nice Ass' bests 'nice Ash'

Wow, Riske is playing real good but Barty is just so much better, 30-30.
....and then, without warning....

Riske takes the 2nd set 6-2.
Not a surprise at all to me.
And Alison Riske does what I tipped her too. She knocks out #1 Barty in 3 sets.
Did anyone expect this
First it's "Barty's so much better" ..... than answering "yes" to the question "did anyone expect this?" . What's up with that?

Anyway, back-on topic: Riske: nice callipygian 'toilet'. (y)

Konta's a freak with that gangly, creepy pre-service ball bouncing motion.

Riske, nice try vs. the GOAT....nice Tush as well - song's dedicated to you Allison-the-Ass : )

Much like Serena's "amazing comebacks" against very low-ranked players in one of the first two rounds.
As soon as there's one of those, you know she's already in the final.
At this point I just want Serena to win a sufficient amount of Slams that would make her content and ready to retire.
Same with the "big 3", really.
I'm getting a bit tired of these Slam hoarders obfuscating everything, as if there's nothing else in the game.
Typical BS and hatred of Serena.

Can't help but note a number of singles players having some success after doing well on the doubles tour.

Zhang Shuai - won the 2019 Australian Open with Stosur. Just made the Wimbledon QF.
Strycova- currently #3 in doubles with titles in Premier 5 Dubai, Premier Mandatory Madrid and Premier Birmingham with Hsieh. Into the Wimbledon SF.
Mladenovic- currently #1 in doubles with the Aus Open and RG titles. Has had a better year in singles including a QF in Rome and 3R in Madrid.
Barty - won the US Open last year as well as Montreal and Rome. Now #1 in singles and the RG champ.
Hsieh- Like Strycova, has won 3 doubles titles this year and is a former #1. Her singles career has massively improved the last 18 months.
Siniakova- Got to #1 in doubles after winning the 2018 RG & Wimbledon titles. In singles made the QF in Wuhan & Beijing, SF in Nuremberg & 4R of the French.

Kerber is way better than Halep on grass...
Not this year. Kerbs has had a number 2R and 3R at W in the past decade. She's done well in a few years to reach 2 W finals (winning 1 of those) but her overall % at SW19 is only slightly better than Halep. Kerber has won 74% (31-11) while Halep has 73.3% (22-8).

Amazing to me how a player who wins more than 70% at Wimbledon would be a "garbage player on grass". Quite the hyperbole. RG is the only slam where Simona has a better record (76%) than her other slams. Elina is something like 15-14 on grass, barely more than 50%. Would be quite the upset for her to take the SF from garbage grass player, Halep. OTOH, Simona may be in too much awe of Serena to take the Wimbledon final from her.

I would give Serena the first chance to win the SF and even the title but in the same time no one should forget the 2015 USO SF when she was at peak and on the verge of one of the most prestigious, unique, career defining, achievements - CYGS and then the unthinkable happened.
Wasn’t at peak though. Serena had played sloppy and barely escaped defeat in many matches preceding that one. Her 2015 tennis was about mental fortitude more than anything else and many levels below her 2013 tennis (which was her peak despite ‘only’ winning 2 slams that year).

2013 was the last year in terms of her producing consistent peak tennis in general.

Do most people think it will be a Halep-Williams final? I'm not invested in women's tennis the way I am with the men but I am rooting for Halep nonetheless! :)

In the event of a Serena-Halep final it will be almost guaranteed Serena will get her #24. I don't trust Halep to make the match of her life to win the Wimbledon against Serena.
IF (and it's a big IF) Halep makes the final, her only chance to win the title is if Strycova upsets Serena tomorrow. For some reasons, Stycova is one of the few players Halep managed consistently over the years.

On the other hand, if we have Serena-Svitolina final, I think Svitolina has a chance to get her maiden GS. She seems to be one of the players who can handle finals better.

Rankings update:

Barty keeps #1
Osaka keeps #2
Pliskova will hold #3
Bertens at #4 but can be overtaken if Halep makes the final or Svitolina wins the title
Halep up to #6
Svitolina up to #7
Sloane up to #8
Sabalenka up 2 spots to her career high #9 despite her 1R loss
Sevastova currently looks set to make her top 10 debut at #10 unless Serena makes the final
Serena currently down 2 spot to #12 but a SF would would bring her to #9 and the title #8.
Kerber plummets out of the top 10 thanks to her dismal performance and she's at #13
Wang up 1 spot to a new career high #14

Other big moves:
Martic up 4 spots to a new career high #20
Anisimova up 3 to a new career high #23!
Kenin up 1 to a new career high #27
Strycova skyrockets 22 spots to #32
Zhang up 15 spots to #35
Riske up 18 spots to #37
Muchova up 25 spots to a new career high of #43
Kudermetova to a new career high #56
Zidansek new career high #57
Swiatek new career high #61
Potapova new career high #69

What if the final turns out to be Svitolina vs. Styrkova? (;

I am expecting Halep vs. Williams, but who knows with women's tennis? It's so unpredictable! :)

Serena is not a given these days.

Interestingly enough, Svitolina did not play Strycova since 2014, before Svitolina became a thing, so it's unknown how they match up against each other now.

Agree. But Halep is not reliable in the big finals either these days.
I'd give Strycova or Svitolina a better chance to take Serena out.
I wish Halep to prove me wrong (I want her to win the title) but objectively, I think she reached the final destination in this tournament.

Halep has to beat Svitolina. She’s the more accomplished grass player and, unlike Svitolina, has experience playing GS semis. Indeed, I think she’s won 4/6 of the semis she’s played to date? Someone correct me if I’m wrong.

Svitolina has the least skill on grass out of the 4, imo. I like her but it’d be ridiculous for her to win Wimbledon.

¿Qué? Have we already forgotten the Doha SFs? Simona prevailed in their only other match this year. Their h2h is only 4-3 (in favor of Elina)... but they have not yet met on grass. Elina's record on grass is barely better than 50% (15-14) -- including this run to the SF round. Simona is 70% on grass (and 73.3% at SW19). It could be a very competitive match but would be considered an upset if Elina won this one.

She is not an "agressive" baseliner. She is a purely defensive and counterpunching baseliner with a bit of offense at times. Nadal isnt called an agressive baseliner and he is way more agressive than she is.

As for her grass skills even a prime Kerber slaps her around easily on grass as their matches show, even though she owns Kerber on all other courts. Even a prime Bouchard had an easy time with Halep on grass.
If you want to see Simona in aggressive baseliner mode, check out her semifinal match against Elina Svitolina -- AFTER the 3rd game. She stepped inside the baseline quite often to hit more offensively. A little bit like Andre liked to do (rather than coming to the net a lot).

But don't know if she'll be able to be as aggressive in a final match against Serena. Simona moves a lot better than Serena. But Serena can dictate quite a bit with that serve of hers and her penetrating shots.

What is amazing again is how Serena got to another GS final without the slightest challenge from a half-decent, in-form player. She only played Tier 3+ players to get to the final, which definitely helped her to work herself into the form for the final day and probably win it.

Made me look. That's quite the run. :D At this point I say go get it all, I want to see some records broken!
R1: Gatto-Monticone
R2: Juvan
R3: Goerges
R4: Suarez-Navarro
QF: Riske
SF: Strycova

Riske is definitely both ‘half decent’ and in form. She had a fantastic grass season coming into W and is no Tier 3 player on her favorite surface.

If we want to talk fluke draws, Svitolina stumbled into the semi and was absolutely exposed by Simona today. She wouldn’t have survived Riske in a million years.

In fact, the only semifinalist who had to make it through a tough draw was Barbora. Halep’s draw wasn’t exactly overwhelming, with Svitolina (who must be the most harmless grass player in the t10) the only seeded player she’s had to face.

The people with nightmare draws were Riske and Konta and at least latter should really have been in the semis. Hardly Serena’s fault she deprived us of a competitive semi by losing her nerve against Strycova.

IMO Riske is not the kind of player to take out Serena no matter how "in form" she appears to be against lesser players.... It would take more than that even against this version of Serena. I'm thinking more like Barty, Bencic, Kerber (not in form but she can raise to the occasion), Kvitova, Bartens or even Konta and Stephens which were in her half. Or at least Martens, Siniakova, Anisimova who did some damage in the recent past against top players.

Gorges, CSN, Strycova were weak matchups for Serena. Sure, I had some hopes from Gorges to give her a run for the money and eventually take her out earlier in the tournament but that did not happen. She's not the same player that made the Wimbledon SF and entered the top 10 last year.

It's absolutely no ones fault that she went to the final unchallenged, much less Serena's. She did what she was supposed to do - win every match against whomever was on the other side of the net. This is how it works for everyone absolutely.

Just pointing the fact that she had a tone of luck with that. It's almost like someone up there paved the way for her to get the #24. More so having to play against Halep who is not exactly the most composed and successful top player in the big moments and I'm sure she still has a mental block with Serena.

The writing is on the wall - Serena #24 and the victory of the motherhood!

But Riske took out Bencic and Barty, both of whom are quite dangerous. I don’t see how someone like Anisimova has better record in this regard.

You may be right and you certainly are regarding Riske beating Barty and Bencic but I don't believe transitivity applies to tennis and sports in general.

Who would've thought Gauff would win 3 main draw matches or Vondrousova would make RG final. My point is some of these upcoming youngsters are unknown entities and come out of nowhere and knock out established players. After all Anisimova dismissed Halep in RG QF and put up a fight with Barty in SF so she can be dangerous.

Meanwhile in doubles:

Jelena Ostapenko is into the mixed doubles final with Lindstedt and they'll they'll face off against Chan/Dodig for the title!

Also, Hsieh/Strycova into the final where they'll play Dabrowski/Xu.

If Strycova can win the title then she will overtake Mladenovic for the #1 ranking.

Strycova, Dabrowski and Xu are all vying for their first slam in women's doubles. Hsieh of course has won two with Peng Shuai.

Congrats to Simona Halep.
She played the right tactics and executed very well.

Great interview / speech, she made a lot of friends in the UK with that!

Deserved winner, runner up graceful in defeat.
