Andreescu has withdrawn, Kenin to play Svitolina tomorrow.
has Kiki injured herself in the last 4 games? no I don't see it. Obviously she is only interested in an easy win, very unsportsmanlike!
Yeah, awfully slow surface at the end of a full year.Disappointing tournament
What kind of BS reaction is this? Bertens has played 8 weeks non-stop and already indicated before the Finals that she was physically done. She clearly hurt herself at 5-3, losing 5 games in a row as a result.
Bertens retires and Bencic wins 7-5 1-0.
Can’t blame Kiki, she’s played basically every week since the USO.
That's 100% her own decision, no one was pointing a gun against her forehead!
She did not need to play 8 weeks in a row, she did not need to be in Shenzhen, or even Zhuhai, just ask Konta, Vondrousova or Kerber.
If she is tired or exhausted, she had the option to withdraw and enjoys a nice sunshine on a beach.
If she decides to play, either for the sake of money or points, then better be prepared for gruesome matches.
What Kiki showed us tonight, was she was only interested in an easy match for the semi, she had no intention for another gruesome 3 set, she had no plan for that.
She wanted the money, the points, semi or potential final but she wants them to be "easy" for her, otherwise she is done.
So yes she is unsportsmanlike!
Right, that's why she played (and won) a gruesome match against Barty of course, coming back from a set and break downYour reaction is a joke. If you don't like Bertens then fine, but your reaction doesn't make any sense whatsoever.
So ... having retired from the last match, is Bertens withdrawing for the rest of the tournament? Who's the alternate? I wonder how many alternates are on standby for this WTA Final.
So many players are at their near-injury level this late in the season.

I thought Bertens v Kvitova match is still not played? Not that it'll make any difference with SF lineup. But, an alternate can get some extra $$ and experience playing in WTA Final??Well there is no more match for her anyways. anyways.
Didn't watch the match, so can't judge. She just burn out in my opinion, having made final in Zhuhai last week.
But should she stay and get bageled? I would say no.
Kiki has always have Thiem like schedule in regards of non stop 8 weeks (She also looking to qualify so made sense), she can't do it as much this year as she has the privilege/ruling of top 10 from last year.

From Bertens now former coach.. not sure I agree with this I mean her year wasn't that bad. Made the Zhuhai final and just beat the #1 in Shenzhen. Won Premier Mandatory Madrid this year too.

Seems strange.
why is Kenin there if she cant win anything?
I can't decide if I like how petulant/feisty she is? Although it will probably get old, like Ostapenkoflop.Love Kenin's game but geez mentally what a wreck!
Agree. It's a ridiculous rule that you could use to your advantage if so inclined.
I must admit this tournament has not been interesting for quite a while.
she normally gets upset between points then is one girl that can come back from anythingLove Kenin's game but geez mentally what a wreck!
Yes. There was something similar with Evert and Wade with the Tour Finals in the 70s.In 1977, Borg and Vilas actually gave walkovers to their opponents in the third match after watching their first 2 matches! Still were allowed to play in the semis. The RR format has always been rather controversial.

Useless trolling and cherry picking. Let's keep promoting Sharapova instead, makes much more sense based on her recent resultsHalep just get bagelled and lost 5 games in a row in 3rd set. Managed to break back and yet failed serving to stay in the match.
Really showing intensity on court and commitment to the game. One must ask why does WTA not promoting her?

On the doubles side, it looks like Babos/Mladenovic-Sabalenka/Mertens could strike a deal to both go through and eliminate Schuurs/Gronefeld by letting Sabalenka/Mertens win 2-1 in sets.
Absolutely not true. The WTA on Facebook doesn't promote any where near her status deserves. And this is in line with Twitter and other social media outlets.I just think Halep was given the appropriate amount of coverage by WTA not like of what this forum said it was.
lol, sounds like an extra motivation to defeat them just to break their streakDefending champs Babos/Mladenovic defeat Mertens/Sabalenka and go 3-0 in their group. They'll face Stosur/Zhang in a rematch of this years Aus Open final.
The pair are now on a 6 match winning streak at the YEC. Babos is actually on a 9 match winning streak after winning the title in 2017 with Hlavackova and then last year with Mladenovic.

And, she definitely has the largest fan base in terms of tournament revenue.
Whilst I appreciate your comments l disagree some points. When Halep was number 1 she still got less promotion from the WTA, much like Davenport did years before. I recall many people commented on social media that Halep got less press than others ranked below her. I will say this may also be down to Halep herself, much like Davenport, are not really in to self promotion - neither are a Serena or Maria that actively encourage it.well I think that is because she is no longer # 1. The official WTA coverage of their top players is very consistent IMO, of course the Williams sisters and Sharapova are a different story, but other than those 3, the top billings or headliners are always focused on the ranking. Back to the days when Halep was #1 (but slamless), she got the most coverage (and a lot of backlash too from fans on social media). Now she has multiple slams but no longer # 1, her exposure is back to the level of other top 10 players like Pliskova, Kvitova...There are no doubt Osaka, Barty and Andreescu now grab the most attention from WTA, but they earned that, not only they are new faces, but they are higher ranked and newly minted slam winners. If you think Halep deserves a bit more, then I would argue WTA probably should give more credit to Kerber, but Kerber dropped out of top 10, even though she is a veteran and multiple slam winner, her current ranking is just not able to justify heavier coverage at the moment.
