2019 WTA Week of April 22: Premier Stuttgart, Istanbul Cup & Anning 125k

Three WTA tournaments this week. One Premier, one International and one 125K.


We have the always loaded Stuttgart tournament.

The seeded players for the tournament are:
Osaka, Halep, Kvitova, Pliskova, Kerber, Bertens, Sevastova and Kontaveit.

Pretty much every unseeded player in the draw are decent! Unseeded slam champs include Azarenka, Muguruza and Ostapenko and you've also got Dubai champ Bencic, Doha champ Mertens and more.

The number 1 ranking is in play in Stuttgart. Osaka needs to make the final to hold the #1 ranking, Halep and Petra must make the final/win the title to have a chance at being #1.

Pliskova is the defending champion in singles.


Istanbul has a good draw considering Stuttgart is on.

Seeds are:
Suarez Navarro, Buzarnescu, Giorgi, Yastremska, Tomljanovic, Martic, Siniakova and Sakkari.

Decent unseeded players include: Vondrousova, Strycova, Kuznetsova and Mladenovic.

Parmentier is the defending champ.


There's also a 125k in Anning, China this week.

Seeds are: Zhang Shuai, Zheng SaiSai, Stosur, Zhu Lin, Peng, Khromacheva, Lao and Sharipova.

Pretty weak draw but it is a 125k. Big chance for Zhang, Zheng or Stosur to win some decent points.

Stosur loses to someone over 100 places below her in the 1R in Anning. Three other seeds have all retired.

In Istanbul, 6 seeds lost in the first round, 1 seed in the second round so there's just one seed left by the QF stage. Kuznetsova also lost in the 2R to Vondrousova.

Kasatkina doesn't look well to me. Donna played well.
