Team Serbia wins! Glory for you them! Djokovic love affair with Australia continues. The king of Oz. Who would bet against him bagging an 8th AO at Melbourne in few weeks?

Even if Serbia lost in the first round, Novak would be the favorite for the AO.

Only 2 things can stop a Novak win at the AO. One is injury. The other is peak Stan. Otherwise he wins AO every year.

Yes, Djokovic is the King of Australia, but Troicki also couldn't have picked a better place to play. Sydney is where he won 2 of his 3 singles career titles.

10 YEAR CHALLENGE

2010 DAVIS CUP - Djokovic went unbeaten in singles, Troicki won the deciding match of the final

2020 ATP CUP - Djokovic went unbeaten in singles AND doubles, Troicki won the deciding match with him in the final

Thank you guys! :giggle:

I'm also impressed with the way Lajovic played, he fought like a lion all the time and, as Novak said, probably played his best HC tennis ever.

Great show by Djokovic in singles and doubles. Well supported by Lajovic and Troicki. Serbia did very well to get the title with an average 2nd player and average doubles team.

Never thought Bautista Agut would come out as our best performer of the ATP Cup with Nadal there as well.

Congratulations to Serbia. Djokovic was immense for them, but he also had good support from his teammates (not to mention the crowd, that was crazy). I hope this won't give Novak a boost as big as that Davis Cup did a long time. Let's have Rafa win a couple more Slams, then we can talk. ;)

It all over
Yup. I just checked TC and saw the very end of the doubles. I guess Nadal is protecting his body because you have to think that he is the guy who should have been playing doubles. I saw just a bit of the singles match, and I don't see anything that makes me think that Djokovic is not going to win another AO.

Enjoyed the tournament, although I am not sure about its future.

Medovic semifinal was special. My two favs. Stunning contest between the current and future champ, as the past stunning great Safin watches and smiles. :)

Well done to team Serbia.

RBA gave Spain an important chance by winning his match v Lajovic. I knew then it all hinged on the doubles because there was no way Rafa was beating Novak. When I saw that Rafa had pulled out of the doubles I knew it was all over for Spain (Lopez is too flaky and unreliable these days). I'm guessing Team Spain knew it too. They had already won the revamped Davis Cup on home soil so I guess they were content just to have reached the final.

Anyway, congrats to Team Serbia on winning the inaugural ATP Cup. Is this the first team competition they have won since 2010 Davis Cup?

Great spectator attendance in Australia?
A reality check:

Attendance
• 220,319 fans shared in the excitement of the ATP Cup across the three host cities
• Day 2 (4 January) was the busiest day of the tournament attracting 31,631 spectators across Brisbane, Perth and Sydney
• The final between Serbia and Spain attracted a sell-out 10,223 crowd at Sydney’s Ken Rosewall Arena
• Perth hosted the highest attended session during the Group Stages with 8,139 fans turning up for Spain vs. Japan.

Davis Cup Final figures hard to find:

Over 8 days of Davis Cup Finals I'd guess half as many people showed as Madrid Stadium capacity was 12,000 and the rest of the courts very small.

I loved both events and hope the DO NOT COMBINE.

davis cup was much better event than atp cup. the atmosphere, the players were more excited. home support for australia in comparison vs home crowd for spain is subpar. tennis australia giving tickets for free to people. there were trillion threads how pathetic it is that dc had to give free tickets to british fans but dont see any about how tennis australia have to give tickets to anyone willing to show up just to fill up some seats.
 Might have agreed early on, but in the end both were great.

Making 4R at AO was a decent result for a traditional non-producer at slams. Then he blitzed everyone in Acapulco until the final vs on-fire Kyrgios. It was only after that run that the wheels came off.
I really don't get what is going on with his coach and camp. I've been complaining about his 2nd serve game for two years and they finally patched it up a bit between ATP Cup Finals and Auz Open where his stats are suddenly back on track. Might have had zero DFs against Wawrinka.

Aha he's doing way better than I expected, hope it continues but...still no where near Fed 04 territory yet ;)

Does it mean "jump to results like Federer in 04" or "jump as much as Federer did between 03 and 04"? The latter seems possible. Zverev in 2019 was way behind Federer in 2003, so a parallel jump doesn't mean him winning three Slams in 2020.

Mammoth choke by Purcell/Saville in this tiebreaker. Blew set points, one on their serve and then double faulted. Now they’ve lost the set.

Oh no, just expecting a surge like the Mad Lad last year. It will take a great returner to derail Zverev and Medly the best of a weaker returning group of incoming stars.

Who do you want to win, Thiem or Zverev?
