Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but he hasn't secured the top spot, only a place in the semis.

If he loses in straights today and Nadal wins in straights, wouldn't Rafa be #1? They would both be 2-1 win/loss but Thiem would be 4-3 in sets and Nadal would be 4-2.
H2H is the tiebreaker for 2 people tied in number of wins. If 3 people are tied then number of sets/games won comes into picture. Thiem has beaten Tsits and rafa both

Thiem is acting like he's mad but as we all know, deep down, he doesn't care about this match.

I don’t understand tanking these matches. A lot of points and cash on the line for 2-3 hours of effort.
Thiem just limped out of the last tournament he played with blisters. Not to mention hurting his foot during the USO and still being gassed by the French.

I don't blame him for taking it easy and making sure he's fully fit for the semis and potential final here.

Thiem has won almost all big matches against Zed recently. AO20 SF, WTF19 SF, USO20 F. So I would prefer Thiem over Zed or even over Djoko for that matter.

I wouldn’t say I don’t prefer Thiem. I just think Zed has a legitimate chance, esp since his serve is working pretty well for him this tournament. Thiem never has an easy time against Zed, unless Zed is in a confidence crisis.

Nope. This is worrying. Tim always makes everything look too effortful.

He is standing at one place at times to hit balls. Something is iffy

True. But given he could hurt himself in this match, he is saving his best for Zverev/Djokovic which could be a brutal match physically.

Why should he tank when he can add 200 more points?! He can reach #2 before AO if he wins WTF and Rafa loses his next match, can't he?!!!!

He is taking a precaution for something big.

I have never ever seen Thiem put no effort. He gives his 150% in R1s of 250s he isn't the kind to give up a win.

He is about to lose in straights in less than an hour so do you have a better explanation. Injured?

Honestly, just for this Tsitsipas deserved to win the title more than Thiem last year. He was actually trying in his third match.

Now I know how it feels to be on the other side. Yesterday I said it was pathetic tanking by Djokovic and ppl said he was outplayed. Today ppl say pathetic tanking by Thiem and I say he is being outplayed :-D

Thiem and Medvedev are already guaranteed to top their groups, since it's H2H that decides 2-player ties.

Semis are looking like:
Med v Nadal (or Tsitsipas)
Thiem v Djoko (or Zverev)

So who do we favour for the final?

Didn't he say his goal is to protect Roger's week at#1?!! So why wasting 200 more points?! Even for his own good, it's better to reach number 2 before AO to have an easier draw.
