Davis Cup - ITF introduces global format for Davis Cup Groups I and II

The ITF has announced an expanded format for the Davis Cup Group I and Group II competition which will be played on a worldwide basis from 2020

• In March, 24 teams will play the Finals Qualifiers. The 12 winning teams will play the Finals (in November).
• Also in March, 24 teams will play the World Group 1 Play-offs. The 12 winning teams will play the World Group 1 (in September) versus the 12 losers of the Finals Qualifiers.
• Also in March, 24 teams will play the World Group 2 Play-offs. The 12 winning teams will play the World Group 2 (in September) versus the 12 losers of the World Group 1 Play-offs.

Why did they change the whole format, anyway? Seemed like it was working fine.

Not sure. Iwht 24 teams per division, climbing and falling will be easier.

My worry is the excessive travelling. I wouldn't like Uruguay to play Poland or Phillipines. Matchups should be regional.
