Total joke to give a WC to Mischa Zverev, brother of #2 seed. Nepotism has infected the ATP. The guy has won 2 completed matches at ATP level since Cincinnati’18 (3-19 since that 1R win).

It's a wild card. The tournament decides not the ATP, If that delivers them Alexander Zverev than it's more than a fair deal.

He was going there whether the WC was awarded to over the hill big brother or not. Having skipped the Euro indoors circuit and defending finals points from last year, there’s no way Zedraffe pouts and pulls out of the tournament if his brother isn’t tapped.

I'm hoping Kyle Edmund backs up his title in NYC the other week, and starts playing at top form again.
I'm thinking Nadal will take this, but I think we would all like to see Nadal vs Kyrgios again here.

That Thiem-Rafa match was the highest level match of the Australian Open, so if Rafa duplicates even 70% of that form it'll be enough to win this title.
And Rafa is a lot fitter this year than he was last year when he didn't even win a title until Rome, still won 10 more points than Kyrgios in their Mexico match :)

Why is Nadal playing this tournament? Nothing matters for him until the clay season.

As usual, he will end up overplaying and injuring himself. Except this year, he will probably falter in Paris at the French Open.

There are so much more strong players in Acapulco than in Dubai. (which will probably be a joke of a tournament with Djokovic losing like 10 games)

Dubai's seeds are the world #1, 6, 9, 11, 12, 14, 17 and 21

Acapulco has the world #2, 7, 16, 19, 20, 22, 23 and 24.

And imagine if Federer had been able to play. Dubai attracted the stronger field this year imo.

Of course knowing you this is all irrelevant. Dubai could have all top 10 players and you'd think Novak would win without dropping a set and Acapulco could have only players outside the top 100 and Nadal would lose.

I’m guessing AdM ran out of gas in his first match since early January. Hopefully he didn’t reaggravate his leg/groin issue. Kecmanovic often makes his opponents work very hard to win.

Stanimal has brought some superior service skills to Acapulco...32 aces, 1 DF. He has saved all 9 BPs Tiafoe has forced but may need to win a decisive TB FTW. 5-6 Tiafoe third set.

Stanimal! He didn’t cash 3 more MPs on Tiafoe’s 5-6 but rifled through the TB 7-1 on three more aces and some good return points.

Wawrinka, Kyrgios, Zverev are all players who can hurt Djokovic, and guess which tournament they are playing? On the other hand who plays in Dubai? Tsitsipas who won 3 games in their last meeting? Stop being like Lew, ranking is not everything.

I kind of expected FAA to be gassed after the last couple weeks and crash out first round here. A win here at least makes the long flight over worth it I suppose.

Don’t let the close first set score fool you into thinking it was actually close. Other than the 6 double faults, which have nothing to do with the massively overmatched jung, Zverev lost 2 points on serve.

Nadal v Andujar 63 42 Andujar with a couple of 1st class drop shots gets the advantage and recovers 1 break.

Cheers
