Which horse are you backing? Same as the big 3 census thread, just a guage of who has how many fans here, no trolling. Looking forward to 2020!! We will expose bandwagoners who jump on the train late ;)

I have a double horse I'm backing. It's in my signature line ;)

That said, if it went by whom I think is going to do better, it's Medvedev...whom I want to vastly exceed expectations, it's Sinner.

Tsitsipas.
Picked Rafa at younger age. Similar feeling w Tpas.
But I think it’s impossible to be this lucky twice in a lifetime.

no preference for who succeeds but how I think it will shake out:
Tsitsipas - has had the steadiest improvement across the board
Sinner - near complete game, constantly improving and tremendous mental strength l
Thiem - I think he will retire with 3 slams - 2 RGs and 1 on HC
Medvedev - has to prove his summer wasn’t a fluke. I don’t think he becomes the dominant player of the generation unless he becomes more aggressive from the ground
Zverev - tremendous tools, but mentally fragile. I think he’ll eventually figure it out for a couple of slams
Shapovalov - Too inconsistent. Will just be a dangerous floater in draws.
FAA - has the game to be the dominant player of the generation but has the mental fortitude of Richard gasquet
Berrettini - won’t be more than he is now
De Minaur - weaponless pusher
Khachanov - will never win a slam, not good enough
Coric - weaponless pusher

Tsitsipas will burn brighter but inconsistently.

Medvedev will be close on peak level as well as more consistent.

Thiem however is the one guy that has genuine chance to make 2-3 upcoming years his own.

Thiem>Medvedev>Tsitsipas.

Sinner is overrated, so is Zverev.

One guy who can sneak in a slam is Dimitrov. He can play like journeyman but then can make HC slam SFs. An opportunity and some motivation and I won't rule out the Golden boy winning one slam out of 25 he was supposed to win.

De Minaur - weaponless pusher
Overall I agree with your assessment, except for this one. I think de Minaur is this generation's Ferrer. Determination, hard work, quickness, and a relentless pursuit of every ball on every point is in no way 'weaponless'. Sure, he doesn't have the power of most of the NextGen players, but I still see him as an eventual stalwart top-10 once the big 3 retire (assuming he stays healthy). He missed 2 months w/ a groin injury, and still managed to win 3 titles this past year, as well as losing in 2 finals (one of them to Federer).

Will he win a major? Probably not, unless the draw opens up for him, but I still think he's got potential for a solid career.

I dont have my favorite NextGen. Still waiting for The Chosen One. But I do like Thiem, Zverev, FAA, Rublev and Sinner.

It’s possible he gains more power over time but Sinner absolutely wiped the floor with him at the NextGen finals

You wish. Ferrer was and will ever be better than De Miñaur. Ferrer, among other things, achieved this:

-#3 in the ATP ranking
-1 Grand Slam final
-1 Masters 1000 title
-Ending the year in the top 10 more than 6 times
-27 titles

De Miñaur will never achieve any of those stats.

I think too many people have become accustomed to the Fed/Nadal/Djokovic era, where these guys have basically won everything for the last 15 years. They have been so stingy with titles and have barely let anyone in (other than Murray & Wawrinka). We tend to forget about the Krajicek/Washington Wimbledon final, or Sebastian Grosjean, who only had 4 titles to his name, winning the Paris Masters.

I believe after Fed/Nadal/Djokovic retire, there will be a 4-5 year period where things are constantly in flux, and its entirely possible that de Minaur will sneak in a major final and a Masters title.

Will he be a dominant player over the next 10 years? Unlikely, but he will be in the mix if someone doesn't show up that day.

Don't compare Ferrer (who has retired this year) and an early career guy. When Ferrer was 20, he was not as good as Minaur is now. Give the guy a chance.

Then no one for me.

But I do think Thiem should belong to NextGen term not by age, but by his position on tour, i.e. younger player who is in chase of Big3 and gets better constantly. "Lost" would really be a clueless term to use regarding him.
How about midgen? Neither lost nor next

Kachanov or Berretini are my hope, unfortunatelly their backhands just suck balls, so probably Titipas and Bear are the future.
