That’s a first. I wonder if times are changing. I am all for a healthy competition as long as there’s no unnecessary arguments and bragging; although in sports, that probably goes hand in hand. I think it will be a complete riot if Nadal breaks Federer’s and then Djokovic breaks Nadal’s.

Vote for me :D

This forum has lost about 50% of its traffic in the last year, all thanks to Nadal. You can expect it to lose another 80% when (not if) Nadal breaks Federer's slam record.

If you are a huge Fed fan and hate Rafa/Djoker then yes this place will be ‘dead’ to your like. This place will then be more about tennis than simple fanboy worship. Nadal has stronger goat-like qualities than Federer, and once he goes past Fed’s slam number there’s no real way to argue Fed’s superiority. One more yr-end No.1 and he’s officially a stronger no.1 than Federer. When you think of unbreakable records that really mean something, then Rafa is the only guy who has that on his resume. Fed’s 8 Wimbledon’s are big, but look pedestrian compared to the 12 FO Rafa won. Fed also was very vulnerable at Wimbledon, winning a few in nail biting 5 setters, losing 4 finals (3 to Djoker). By comparison Rafa has not only never lost in his 12 FO finals to date, but never lost more than 1 set. Mind blowing stat. Nobody could even push him to 5 sets, let alone win 3 sets to beat him. Rafa the only clear cut surface goat/boat makes him the 1st guy to qualify in the goat club. Maybe you could argue Laver, but they are the top 2 so far.

Then we have Tsitsipas and a bunch of others too. Fans of others than the big 3 will start showing up and some already started!

Yes, and obviously Federer is a super great tennis player, but he was never half as good as his biggest fans here suggest. He’s simply lost too many times at the elite level v the best players. He’s been phenomenal at beating less skilled opponents for so many yrs, but below average v Djoker/Nadal. Both Nadal and Djoker completely own him at AO. There’s a good chance both Nadal and Djoker will have more yr-end No.1 than Federer - all 3 are tied on 5 atm, 1 behind Sampras’ record 6.

Trying to get an idea of the sizes of fanbases now since it's been a while and it's hard to tell how many big 3 fans are part of each "cult" now.
Simple, which horse is your ride-or die, obviously some of us like multiple players, but with the slam race, you get the drift. There used to be a time where there were like 7 Ultronians, and now they are all over
Looking forward to battling with you all in 2020 :D

Why did you not make the poll public ?

Fanatics in VB probably quickly made 40 fake accounts to pad the total for Rafa. The Nadal fans endlessly post that TTW is 90% Fed fans, so what's the truth? They couldn't possibly have been mistaken!?
Federer will post in his social media urging people to create an account and vote for this!
No one beats Federer in a popularity thing, no one!

I don't think so, and if so, then Maestronians would be free to do the same and yet they trail :)

ok i picked none my fellow poster....

There are more Nadal fans on TTW because Nadal is the most popular player in the world.
The poll is close with Nadal winning 2 Slams and Fed winning nothing this year. Bunch of glory hunters who just go with the trend. Give Fed 2 Slams and Nadal zero and Fed would've decimated the poll.

Horand von Grafrath (January 1, 1895 - after 1899) (formerly Hektor Linksrhein) was the first German Shepherd Dog and the genetic basis for modern German Shepherds.

A society named the Phylax Society formed in Germany in 1891, with the intention of standardising dog breeds. The society disbanded in 1894, but many of the members continued to exhibit the ideologies promoted by the society. One of these members was Captain Max von Stephanitz, the man now credited with being the father of the German Shepherd Dog.[1] In 1899 while attending a show, von Stephanitz was shown a dog named Hektor Linksrhein. Von Stephanitz was so impressed by Hektor's intelligence, strength and obedience that he purchased the dog for 200 German gold marks[2] and immediately formed the Verein für Deutsche Schäferhunde (Society for the German Shepherd Dog). Von Stephanitz admired the dog for its "obedient fidelity to [its] master."[3] Von Stephanitz changed Hektor's name to Horand von Grafrath and included him as the center-point of the society's breeding programs. The dog was then registered under a new breed registry, thus making Horand von Grafrath the first German Shepherd Dog.[4][1][5]
Many breeders of the time idolized Horand as the goal for what a well-rounded working dog should be.[1]
There have been statements that Hektor Linksrhein was part wolf.

Horand sired many pups. His most celebrated offspring was Hektor von Schwaben, who later produced Heinz von Starkenburg, Beowolf, and Pilot. These three studs were used in later breeding programs; their progeny are thus the ancestors of all modern German Shepherd Dogs.

If 97% fans belong to Federer then I am sure you will find at least a few atheists in them and yet, they support an article that talks about religious experience. Oh the irony. But I am sure not all Feds are high on that article.
Do you know what is funny?

That what the whole article is based on, the point, never really happened. Maybe D foster Wallace was drunk when he wrote it?
It seems Fed fans too easily bought this illusion.

The whole Fed as a religious experience was based on a drunk mans imagination, not Federer.
Truth isn’t always what it seems, isn’t it?

TBH I'd just chalk up the results to the fact that Nadal just had a really good year, resulting in the Fed fanbase in particular to stay away. This poll would've looked very different in 2015, 2016, or even 2018.

Don't have a strong like or dislike for any of them (although Nadal taking an age to serve means I rarely watch him). I went for Federer because I love the way he plays - seems effortless with more variety than most.

I have been here for a long time. And apparently my memory is a lot better than your's. You are in denial. This place will be dead soon.
Don't stress. When the bandwagon Fed fans leave new bandwagon Rafa / Djoker fans will take their place. Thats just how it works. Bandwagon fans need thier ego to be associated/tied to "the best player." When Rafa finishes Fed off the exodus will be glorious and younger fans worshipping Nadal will roll in.

Be careful what you wish for...

Man, these bandwagon fans of Nole and Rafa are sure late to the party, assuming they show up at all. Both will be 33 and 34 when tennis gets rolling again. Anybody boarding their fan trains now are a bit bizarre. Kind of like discovering and rooting for Pete Sampras in 2001 or rooting for Agassi starting in 2004.

I agree for the most part, but there are exceptions like myself. I was interested in tennis for some time but only really became a fan of Federer around 2011 or so, when he was starting to struggle more against the “young guns”. It felt easier to root for him now that he was the underdog.

Fair point. I do think Rafa will see a surge in new fans

Well, Fed was 29 years old in 2011 and technically in the middle of his career at that point. That's a very big distinction between some new Rafa or Nole fan jumping on the bandwagon when they're 33 and 34 years old. By any standard, they are both in the late stages of their careers. And really, nobody should be penalized if they suddenly start watching tennis in 2021 and see old Rafa for the first time and start rooting for him. I just hope for our sakes they don't crowd in here and spout off their infinite wisdom over a guy they discovered 8 days previously.

What I mean by this is that if Federer gets out of the picture (yes, it’s still an “if” at this point), you can expect to see plenty of wars between the Nadal and Djokovic fanbases.
It's funny, I don't see hatred from the Nadal fans over Djokovic, which seems strange. Their mass collective loathing has always been reserved for Roger. Maybe they will get amped up if Novak gets to 19 slams, assuming Rafa remains at that #. Djokovic beats Nadal consistently for the past 9 years, Nadal owned Fed for years, so it doesn't make any sense to me. I assume it's envy because Roger is universally beloved and Novak's never been a popular #1.
