Serena has a terrible draw. I don't see how she is going to win this. She will have to depend on some of the floaters to take out the big guns.

Hmm... I'm not sure I can see Martic or Azarenka in the semis - even Mugu hasn't played a warm-up tournament. It's just been SO long since Azarenka contested the latter stages of a GS, or even a big tournament. She's doing well at Western & Southern Open, but I don't know if I'd put faith in her to go deep over both tournaments. This wee has definitely been promising for her though. Martic has potential for sure, but seems to be erratic in her results, and when expected to do well sort of disappears.
I'd like to see Rybakina vs Osaka in the QFs for sure.

I'm low key hoping for an Osaka vs Muguruza final, providing Mugu can show up with 0 warm-up tournies and perform.

6 of the Top Ten missing.
And the 4 remaining... I guess Osaka has some kind of form.
It's a tad B Division.

And could all change if the police shoot another black person. Seems likely Osaka would pull out, and that leaves other players in a difficult position.

Honestly that quarter is very weak. Martic is a just a pick because I think Pliskova and friends will collapse and she has the game to make SF of a slam. But she's doing clay warm up, so idk.

Muguruza strike me as a player that can play good out of nowhere tho. She did pick up a good results pre-suspension.

How's Kenin looking? I have no idea what's going on with most players.

For those of you "worrying" that Serena is gonna tie Margaret Court with a depleted draw, I can tell you, as a big Serena fan, it ain't gonna happen. I saw her Kentucky matches and the match she lost in "Cincy." It's not happening - she looks fairly terrible. And this isn't a Serena who can work herself into some sort of tournament form/shape and win like she used to. I wish she could, but no.

At this point, I hop someone completely random wins it and gets a big pay day.

PSA for anyone in the US with DirecTV... The bonus channels appear to be 901-907 this year for whatever reason. Just glad they’re back.

Osaka is supposed to have a hamstring injury (the reason she pulled out of the final a few days ago). What happened to Pliskova in the poll above? I thought I chose her, but now she is gone. Did she drop out and I didn't hear?

Some other interesting matches coming up:

11:00 Kerber Angelique (GER) [23] - Tomljanovic Ajla (AUS) [59]
14:00 Kostyuk Marta (UKR) [137] - Kasatkina Daria (RUS) [70]
15:00 Gauff Cori (USA) [51] - Sevastova Anastasija (LAT) [45]
16:30 Collins Danielle (USA) [55] - Kontaveit Anett (EST) [21]
20:00 Giorgi Camila (ITA) [74] - Van Uytvanck Alison (BEL) [60]
21:30 Osaka Naomi (JPN) [9] - Doi Misaki (JPN) [81]

She didn't drop out, she's playing tonight at 9:30PM Eastern. She pulled out of the final because of concerns that she'd aggravate the issue. Curious if she's fit enough to play Doi, I'll be tuning in to see that.

What happened to everyone? Not much excitement for the US Open going on.
Maybe they're at (gasp) ..work?? Also, TTW is always pretty quiet on WTA threads. Which has its pros and cons I guess.

Already quite a battle going on between Kerber and Tomljanovic. Two breaks of service so far, and lots of extended rallies. Not a bad start to the USO!

Edit: yessss finally in the fifth game, a player holds, Tomljanovic at 3-2. Never change WTA, never change..

I don't understand why they're making people wear masks if the are (seemingly) seated far from anyone else. Like Angie's coach, who are they protecting with that mask?

Kerber serving for the match after breaking at love, looks like she finally despirited Tomljanovic. Still, not a bad match to start with. (y)

Also, looks like all matches are on ESPN3 as opposed to ESPN+ so far. That equals free as long as you already have a cable or satellite provider.

McEnroe is promoting Serena Williams big time to win her 24th here and Osaka for step up in BLM protest! LOL! Evert is pushing for Serena too, to win the 2020 title too! (n)

The top match up are shown in ESPN+! They have the exclusive matches. They are not aired on the regular ESPN channels.

Garcia serving for the match, up 6-3 5-2 to Paolini.

Edit: match! So this guarantees a $100k payday already? Notbad.jpg
