@AnOctorokForDinner When was the last time two Russians played each other at a USO QF or at a slam QF?

never. There have been a few majors where two Russians made QFs but they never played each other in those majors. last one was 06 USO (Youzhny and Davydenko), the one before that was 2001 USO (Safin and Kafelnikov). Both times both Russians lost their SFs.

Agreed about not making this about Djokovic.
He's had enough attention this week and he's not in the tournament anymore.

Lets not make everything about Djokovic, saying this as a Djokovic fan.

True. But I'm just disappointed.
I mean losing a match is fine, but to get disqualified. It's almost like getting a freak injury in the middle of a match.

ESPN talking heads keep talking about the junior rivalry between these two but Rubylev is 20 months younger and always was playing up vs a lankier opponent. Still, Rubylev is the one with better international results as a junior. Believe it or not, the best junior rivalry for Angrey Andrey was Fritzie. Their Chengdu Junior Workd title match was classic stuff!

Are you counting only players that represented Russia? What about players that are of Russian origin or like Zverev, ethnically Russian?

me neither,

Me neither. At all. I mean he's just consistent and moves well for such a tall guy.

Personally, maybe I expect too much from him so I'm a little disappointed. He always seemed to me the best of the next gen in 2019,, but for whatever reason, he seems to have lost the magic.
What a waste, because he seems strong mentally and doesn't defer like the other next gen.

if Medvedev stands a little further back, he'll be in the stands
No spectators allowed, so he'll be defaulted. Nole fans will argue the line judge on this side of the court is to blame because as a line judge, she needs to control that no spectators are lining up outside the stadium.

I think their match with Thiem (if both make it, ofc) can turn out to be underwhelming. From what I’ve seen, Thiem is playing prime Big-3 level tennis. Different league.
Depends what form they will bring. USO 2018 Thiem vs USO 2019 Med could be a very high quality match.

I wouldn't be so sure. Even a diminished Medvedev (not at his best), has 2 things than Thiem sorely lacks: Mental strength and brains.
I will still favor B game Medvedev over Thiem.
