He sure likes to come in off some suicidal stuff, Tiafoe's the same, sometimes appraoches from the middle back of the court... Sometimes work, often doesn't.

Based on what I've seen so far, if Medvedev is FIT (a big IF), he will beat Thiem IMO.

Even a B game Medvedev's level is HIGHER and he is a better player. Period.

I thought Med's match with Rublev was really evenly contested. Rublev got a bit disheartened in the 2nd set after choking the 1st set TB, but it was really just mental toughness that separated them.

So I do expect a competitive match with Thiem.

I didn't watch the match. Is he injured.
Med is denying he's injured:

"No, no, everything is quite fine. I just got a little bit tired at the end of the third set with really physical match that we had. My shoulder started to hurt just a little. And in order not to finish the third set, imagine I would serve one serve, and I don't know, just pull my shoulder. I call the physio, so he took care of it. I was cramping a little bit, so he also massaged me, and it helped a lot. As you saw at the end, I was able to be 100 per cent."

He had a shoulder problem. He was also cramping very badly.
This happens to him often. He's got a problem with his body type and genetics. He cramps too easily and gets dehydrated.
It was the same in 2019 for Medvedev. He just has to then serve BIG and play super aggressive and try to wrap up matches.
If Rublev would have won set 3, Medvedev would have been trouble.

Medvedev's Medical conditions related to fitness and his court positioning are what prevent him from becoming a truly great player.

Imagine if Coric had sweated as much as Thiem has. He would've left the court 7 times per set.

He will definitely win, its almost impossible to hit through him, you must play with depth and at the net on most points, like Nadal at the final last year. Theim lacks this skill.

Thiem is definitely a great player. He's improved every year, and has fewer and fewer weaknesses. He's almost impossible for anyone to beat in big tournaments.

Having said that, he's one of those guys, like Nalbandian and Ivanisevic, who upon reaching the back end, find there's someone waiting who's just a bit better. He's just not quite naturally gifted enough to be a 10 tournament/world number one type player. I hope he's able to have a season like that some day, but I doubt it.
