2020 will be the last year of Nadal and Nike

I have it on very good authority that 2020 will be the last year of the Nike and Nadal partnership.

I have know this for a while but another source notified me and my confidence regarding this story is solid.

What a partnership. Iconic and legendary.

There might be a last minute change and a extension could be signed to further the partnership but my money is this WON'T be happening.

So what's next for Rafa?

Your guess is as good as mine....

EDIT - there was some bad info going around but I can CONFIRM that RAFA WILL BE WITH NIKE IN 2021. Apologies for the confusion.

As a fan of change, this will be nice to see. Nike has been throwing in the towel with their tennis gear. They must be having interns design the gear.

I see Tommy Hilfiger, Joma and Li-Ning have been thrown out as possibilities. What other brands do we think could make a deal with Rafa? Asics, Fila, Lotto or Sergio Tacchini could make sense but probably don't have the money. Maybe a brand that is new to tennis? Zara perhaps? They're Spanish and their fast-fashion rival Uniqlo is going hard in tennis. Plus H&M had their foray with Berdych. Needless to say, Zara would be the worst possible scenario .

I feel like Rafa and New Balance would be a great match... Rafa is similar to Kawhi Leonard in the sense that he's reserved off the court but fiery and passionate on the court. Not sure if NB is trying to push that hard into tennis, though. They have Milos on the men's side, plus Coco is signed long-term. However, their European presence may need a jolt since Liverpool is switching to Nike.

I doubt it. The guy hates changes and is very loyal. The only way he'd switch is if he was being mistreated by Nike, but they just totally revamped a shoe specifically for him. Rafa has been with the same companies forever, Kia, Babolat and Rochard Mille. Look at the way he sees Richard Mille, not a sponsor, but as a friend who makes nice watches.

Nike has been weeding itself from top ATP tour legends for some time now! They want to spend much less $$$$$$$$$ on older mens and go with the next gen players for the future sponsorship and pay much less too. Nike is at a turning point in sports since alot of the sponsorship now has to fund politically directed at players with the right slant and cause. Rafa might be the exception since he has a large worldwide following that Nike needs still.

Most importantly...does he get to keep his bull logo? Cause its even on his academy... lol
I am no lawyer but since RF won his court battle and got his "RF" logo from Nike; Rafa should be able to get his "bull" logo too based on precedence.

Man I hope Fed get the rf logo back but Nike is making it difficult.
Ehh... Federer is (I’m betting) going to retire this year or the next, and I don’t think Uniqlo cares enough about fed and tennis clothing designs to really push. IMO though

Wow. Bab, you're a great source of info, so I trust you. But, I have to say I'm surprised for a few reasons. One is that I think Nike make a shrewd move not throwing money at Roger, but also with the thought in mind that Rafa still had several years of winning majors in store. And it still looks that way. So, unless Rafa's demands are outrageous, I think it's weird Nike wouldn't get a deal done. Also, Rafa is OCD about everything -- including equipment, I assume. Additionally, I thought Nike has made him special molds for his foot issues. So, I find it difficult to see him switching shoes. Clothes, I guess I could see.

Just reporting what I have heard from two different sources.

Since when? Haven't seen any new RF gear available.
Exactly what I thought would happen. I hope I’m not jumping the gun too early but I think that Uniqlo just doesn’t care enough about tennis specific sports clothing to really try and make something serious tennis players, not just the 60 year old club player will wear. It sucks cause even though the Nike RF stuff was expensive, it was still functional and looked like a young, fresh design.

It is trolls like Kenny why I no longer provide information about seasonal Nike lines.

Utterly ignorant. Despicable.

If this were true I think Nike would exit the tennis entirely. The newest shoe “vapor” “cage” 4 goes to show that losing Fed as an endorser is the Vapor shoe is showing in sales. Looks like Nike is putting all eggs in Nadals basket.

Apparel wise I think it is wise that Nike is not making $100+ RF polo shirts. I think polo shirts in general were only purchased by country club/ private club players. Even then private clubs in my area have relaxed to accept crew shirt (tennis specific apparel) as appropriate to the dress code.

He might have had a better attorney at the time he and Nike sat down to produce his bull logo. Better than Federer's, who left its property in the hands of the sponsor (dull move, IMO).

Impossible with Nadal. Who on earth would pay $100 for a wife beater? ;)
