2020 Wilson Pro Staff 6.1 18x20 Official Thread

Have been testing the Pro Staff Six One for a few weeks now and I am impressed with the feel of the frame (using Alu Power 1.25, 48.5 lbs), although its a bit low powered. I adjusted the frame by adding a leather grip as the standard grip was too soft for me. Liked the feel, but noticed the increased weight was a bit too much so switched to a Tourna Pro Tour replacement grip and this is suiting my preference so far!

Still have 2 RF97 v11 in the bag, at the moment still undecided about a switch.

However I was searching for grommets, but couldnt find it yet. The standard Six One grommets apply for this one?
Grommets are available on the Wilson site. It's same 6.1 95 18x20 grommets for any frame prior to the parallel drilling.

good review for you guys... should be able to google translate (or the website has a translator as well). seems high praise.. basically one of the best control and flat hitting racket out there it says...

I recently picker up a pair of HPS 6.1's in 4 1/2 grip for $52 AUD!!! I have added Leather grips and now need to restring.

Gotta say love to get a pair with the new PS paint job, but no way I can afford these prices. IMO the new paint look wonderful they should so do a re-issue of the HPS 6.1 with this paint in a gloss finish, be a winner.

Notice Wilson is having a sale so this stick is a little under $190 USD right now on their website :)

For those that thought it was too expensive.

Man, this thread died fast!

Ordered the 6.1 from the BF sale. Here's the stats with the plastic on the handle:

336g, 290SW, 29.8cm
335g, 290SW, 29.9cm
335g, 288SW, 29.5cm
335g, 297SW, 30.1cm

The place I got the SW measured, I also had them measure a few of my strung racquets and the measurements were spot on to using the app at home. So I don't think their machine was busted.

I'm really surprised at the low SW numbers, they would easily be under 330SW strung. The store guy and I shared a laugh when the weight measured out to all within 1 gram. Not sure how many I'll keep, but I'm happy that they were all under 305SW.

What’s the general consensus on this racquet? Seems like it is softer/less powerful than most 6.1s and is similar to the nCodes. While the 6.1 is stiffer than most racquets I play with, I’ve liked the feel of past versions with a FB of gut or multi. How does this one compare to the 2017 reissue? That one was pretty sweet, especially for the price.

I'm very curious too about what people think about this racket. Haven't read much about it. The Blade Pro and Ultra Pro are much more popular it seems, which is logical. Those rackets have that H19/H22 story around them, easier to handle and customize for a lot of people.

I would love to read and see more about the 6.1 Pro Labs though.

Now you are just grasping.. Every 6.1 reissue so far has been a limited release. The K6.1 reissue was $149 and 2017 reissue was $129 on launch.. Head Pro Tour 2.0, also limited as per TW, $159...

Bought 3 of the 2017 Re issue frames for $89.99 each on Amazon.

This one seems to be the Hyper Carbon 6.1 which I didn’t care for. Never got dialed in with those frames when Wilson sent them to me and got rid of them. Will save my money.

69/71 RA with NXT/Element mix might explain why my arm feels the worst is has in years the morning after a hit...

Playing with the 2017 6.1 95 18x20 I ran into the same thing. I tried several different poly/multi set ups at 49/49, 50/50 and it played super stiff and no power. Now playing with Luxilon Alu Power @ 50. I know Alu Power is not known for its longevity but in a muted frame like the 6.1 95 18x20 it is hard to beat.
Some more set ups I liked:
BHS7T at 47
BHB7 at 48
VS/ BHBZ at 55/52

Playing with OEHM Alu Pearl Rough @ 50 which is an inexpensive string. ($3 a frame) Plays excellent in the 6.1 95 18x20.

I think it’s great so let me add my feedback.

Coming back into competitive tennis after a 20 year break, I was experiencing some arm soreness with my Wilson 6.1 Classics.

Pivoted to the Pro Staff 97 v13 and just felt like something was missing.

The 6.1 v13 gives me the familiar heavier feeling and I can really hit through the ball again with confidence.

It’s been easier on my arm as well. So a win-win.

I understand the cost is a bit high so I bought one new and one used - so my investment is approx 420 for two racquets. A little high but not crazy high

I can’t find this stick anywhere on the Wilson website. Since TW does not offer it, can anyone give me a hint (if a link is not allowed) where to look on the Wilson site? And can you order it strung?

If you insert ''Wilson Pro Labs'' on the big search website, it should be the first result that will get you there. You can order it strung too.

It's true that you can't find it on the regular Wilson website, kinda weird. I don't know why myself.

I thought they had a similar program for Europe but I could be wrong.

Also I noticed you can Demo the 6.1 v13 if you search Wilson Pro Labs Demo

How are you liking them?? Also how was the QC for ya?
They are great frames, still have them but haven't hit with them as of late.
QC was good. They came in at 332g, 332g, 333g Static Weight. Unstrung with just the stock grip on them. Balance is good but didn’t measure SW.
Frame is around 360g with full poly, Wilson Pro Overgrip, Wilson Dampener. Players frame no doubt.

Def players frames...and wowza.. that static weight is definitely mindboggling good from Wilson....

Well on the gosh darn Wilson site for the new six.one they show Dan Evans hehe; they should have just shown Juan Martín del Potro.
That's standard. They want players using the latest and greatest so that the racquet buying public follows their lead. They can't have us chasing down the old truly legendary frames where they can't make money on them.

I have the RF97 but I want one of these because it's 18x20. Should I get this or Angell? Both? lol

Bump. I just picked up 4 of these bad boys. Loving them and thinking of beefing up the swing weight while keeping 9pts HL balance. How have folks been liking their sticks? Thoughts on customizing?

Excellent. The crew below. By 9pts HL I was referring the strung balance with 16G Luxilon Alu Power 16G Hyper G Soft that I have in there right now. They are 12pts HL unstrung and all on point as far as balance and weight. Suprising given the QC variance I've experieced from wilson in the past. Going to try 4G Soft 125 at 44lbs next time. Alu power loses tension too quickly and hyper G was Ok, but too disimlar in feel from Alu Power or Orignal Big Banger which I've used for the last 10-15 years. Not that I didn't like Hyper G soft, but not the right feel for me personally.

I got it strung with their recommended Lux 4G at 1.30 gauge and chose 59 tension but after 10-20 hours it doesn’t feel the same anymore :(
I wonder if I should keep playing or try a different string out

I’m really liking 4G 1.30 at 59lbs, FWIW

I’m loving the feel of this racquet, right up there with the K Six One as one of my favorites. Is anyone struggling with smears on the paint though? A framed shot left a giant, permanent smear near the PWS. Got another one yesterday. I take good care of my frames but this thing is already looking battered after less than one month. Sad because the PJ looks incredible when new and the frame plays great.
