Interesting fact - If Naomi wins (which is likely), she will be the fourth AO female champion in the last 10 years to saving the MP on her way to the title (Osaka saving several MPs against Muguruza). Saving MP and win the AO title managed Li Na in 2014, Kerber in 2016 and Wozniacki in 2018.

Had Osaka lost to Muguruza, Serena would have been AO champion this year.

Thing is though - as far as I'm aware, the tennis forum with by far the highest traffic is the main WTA forum which is I guess the sister site to the main men's tennis forum (which isn't this forum).

But yeh as far as this forum goes, not much interest in the women's game.

Yeah, I've the same impression, even though I'm not registered on the other one and rarely go there (I'm too lazy, too accustomed to this one's idiosyncrasies and with not that much will power to plough through even more crankiness and anger than in this little forum).

The fact the match started at 8am in a Saturday's morning doesn't help too.

Naomi Osaka looking to be the first player to save match points to go on to win the slam since Wozniacki did it at the 2018 Australian Open.

Osaka playing for Japan is somewhat strange in my opinion.
From childhood she is staying in US, all growing up here.

But still opting to play for Japan to get benefits

That first point when serving for it with Osaka going huge DTL FH was a real statement of intent. She was gonna go get it. Somewhat pressured and hammered it down to force the error.

She had dual citizenship of US and Japan. She relinquished US citizenship in 2019 to play for Japan in 2020 olympics as per Japanese rule

Edit : while some news have reported like that, i also see that it is unconfirmed. She has elected to represent Japan in Tokyo olympics but she is probably retaining her US citizenship.

What a rather anti-climatic last game after that sliver of a reaction by Brady.

It can't be more evident that Osaka is a stupendous hardcourt player. Now, it will be interesting to see how she evolves in grass and clay. Same thing as Andreescu, before those goddam injuries.
