It's really hard to believe, but this is the very first official match between them.
Winner of this match goes to the semis.

H2H
Djokovic 0-0 Rublev

What's your prediction?

Once Djokovic starts to read the Rublev serve this will become a formality. 2 or 3 sets depending on this variable

I was impressed by Rublev's win, didn't expect it at all. Perhaps he is back in good form? Perhaps it was a fluke? Anything can happen in tennis!

Yeah I like Rublev but Djokovic is the ultimate bad matchup for him. Rublev bashed the FH and when it doesn’t work he hits it harder mix in his BH being average and awful 2nd serve he is toast

In theory, young Rublev should be able to hit old Djoko off the court on a fast indoor surface. In theory.

But Rublev isn’t a Wawrinka or Delpo player. He will hit FH but it breaks down quick and unlike the players above you need to be good off both wings to beat Djokovic.
Also add in the fact his 2nd serve belongs in the WTA and is playing the greatest returner of 2nd serves and this will be a walk

I'm fantasizing that Rublev wakes up today and decides not to be a mug. At least rublev has a potential path to victory.

The others like Hubert and Casper are dollar store versions of Djoko. No hope, except maybe if Djokovic gets hit by a bus on the way to the stadium. And then only maybe.

Look at Medvedev vs Rublev match up it goes the same way Rublev can’t handle players that are consistent from the back of the court he always implodes.
The good news for your hope is Rublev won the last match against Med

I know I can't wait to see this match.
I always thought there would be sparks if they met. I think their games complement each other well.
The good news is they both look in form. Rublev was impressive (specially on serve) in his first match.
I've watched Rublev's matches against Nadal in Monaco and Medvedev in Cincinnati. On a good day he can beat anyone. If they both play their best tennis (or close) it will be epic. I hope 3 sets. They can both play relaxed, without pressure. The player who loses this match will still be huge favorite of the last RR match against Tsitsipas/Ruud.

If there is a surface where a player like Rublev can trouble Novak (at this point of his career anyway), it's a fast hard court. Usually, Djokovic would force such players into unforced errors by extending the rallies and making them hit more shots thanks to his defense, but he is a little bit slower nowadays and it's easier to hit through him (with both serve and groundies) on the court that rewards players who go for their shots. If Rublev serves well and doesn't play conservatively, he can make this match interesting.

Of course, Rublev can implode and get routined, he's a NextGen after all.

Time for Rublev to step up, he's been RUBBISH! lately but I've noted an uptick in form, though small.

He needs to bring it here, if Djoke distroys him, Rubes will join the ranks of Dims, Raomugs and Glassikories,
hyped to skies to be forever also rans

C'MOM BWEH ! BLAST THAT FOREHAND !
TAKE OUT THE SNIVELING PATHETIC RACKET SMASHER ! ( Because someone will ! )

See 1:20 for amazing Djokovic defense at the age of 34

I have dreamt about this match since 2014. Can't wait to get it out of my system :D

Settle down @junior74 settle down! You're a little excited and so are the rest of us, excited to see history finally be made. Future generations will only know about this match through legend, but we will have witnessed it as it happened. :)

Enough with ridiculous hype already. Rublev needs to show up first, and I hope he does, but someone is going to show up real soon. The Sniveling Racket Smasher is nearly Finnish.

Luck of the Devil you mean, Rudd shot selection was Zod level.

Yeah, that was a little Zoddy... Also, note how Ruud didn't close in. Like Zed, he is a little afraid of the net, they stand 3 metres from it, making volleys so much harder to execute.

Upon the examination of the galaxies of space, images begin to appear. Images of strange and powerful forces. But of all the forces in the universe, the two most powerful: Novak Djokovic and Andrey Rublev! Prepare to explode! Champion versus future champion. Title for future title. It's the ultimate challenge!

It's the WTF!!!!

Indeed, I love watching Nedal, Murray and Fed volley - They are not afraid !
Nadal is particularly sharp at the net, as are they all.

He is still phenomenal, but still not as good as 6-7 or 10 years ago. And that tiny difference in movement could be (potentially) exploited under faster conditions. Anyway, he is still a firm favorite to win the match.

With Tsitsipas out, this is turning out to be a strange event. Anyway, Djokovic and Rublev are on the court... I think Djokovic has this...
