What a Cinderella story for Kararsev. This is is first slam draw ever, and at #114
In the world, he’s in the semis. Wow!

After battling severe knee injuries, he’s healthy now. But he said the biggest change was his mentality. He credits his coach for helping him a lot mentally. He now has it out together. Evegeny Donskoy said late last year that the tennis world would be hearing a lot about Karasev this year. Shockingly, he was spot on.

What a story! Wow!

So like Sasha is saying he didn't play well and Choked. because he was up a break in all of the sets and lost anyway.

So IF nadal plays Joker in the final.............. Does the Huge beating Novak took in the final on red clay still have an impact on his psyche ?? That was de-moralizing, could still freeze novak in the final against RAFA

Probably been discussed but anyone know if the final will be earlier this year, meaning in the afternoon Melbourne time and not the evening?

Not expecting it. Djokovic is pretty good mentally, and I think the 2019 performance would be more prevalent in his mind.

From what I hear, the other player took a fake MTO for “dizziness” to disrupt Barty who was a set and break up.

Can’t see anything past a comfortable Medvedev and Nadal win for the men

Didn't see the match. I don't like Barty anyhow. Good for the other player.

As far as Mad Lad and Bull, anything can happen. Rublev is playing good and Pasta as well

Looks like Djokovic v Nadal Finals is shaping up,, probably wont be so high octane as earlier encounters. Since Thiem is gone and Nadal is winning he is increasing his hold on ATP No 2..

Cheers

Odds makers have Novak more likely than not to win the title - what do u ppl think? Is it his to lose now?
As Karatsev beating him would be a monumental upset (unless his injury comes back in a big way), he most likely has to outlast either Rafa or Med over 5 sets. Very doable imo

2019 AO should hold more importance than 2020 FO for a Djokodal final, and if it's Madlad he can give Nole trouble and run him close - but I don't think he can win (but I'd hope for an epic like the 2019 US)

Yes, it's his to lose. But I think he will lose it. Medvedev is coming for the title.

As i watch that interview from today against rafa,,, i see he will definitely win the australian open. You heard it here first. Novak and Danielle has NO chance with his form at the moment. Novak and Danielle, just don't even show up, you guys have no chance

Players staying in the tournament by their set ratios:
Medvedev 15-2 (88%)
Karatsev 15-3 (83%)
Tsitsipas 12-4 (75%)
Djokovic 15-5 (75%)

I expect him to dissolve like a sugar cube before med's game, but who knows

Interesting stat - Djokovic is leading the way with Aces. Yes he's played more than most and the big servers haven't gone that deep but still for Djokovic to be topping the ace count shows 2 things. The courts are really faster than before and he's improved his serve. He hasn't played the greatest returners mind you.

With the form that Djokovic showed today, he looks unbeatable. His ground game is as good as peak years, but his serve is a revelation.
He is serving SO BIG. He could just win by his serve alone.

Expect another 3 set drubbing in the final. Unlike Nadal and Federer, Novak is getting BETTER with age.

Can some people give me their evaluation of Novak from this match? Highlights looked good but they're just highlights.
Set 1 and 2 until 5-1 up: Djokovic was a machine. He was playing unbeatable tennis, the kind of form he was showcasing against Nadal in AO 2019.

Set 2 end and set 3: Solid play. Better than most of his play this tournament but a definite step down from the first half. Many more UEs - he just wasn't as dialed in at this point.

If he can get back into the zone against this final opponent, I like his chances.

I still think as good as Novak played today, Medvedev in particular could really run him close all the way.

Novak is just not quite as good as 2 years ago and Daniil is playing best tennis ever. They are like too almost evenly matched robots.

Don't get me wrong i think in form Stefanos could give Novak real tough fight, but how much will he have left in tank if he gets through to final.

When Novak played Daniil, it's one of the two matchups on tour that I think the onus is on him to pull the trigger and be ultra aggressive. The other matchup is RBA. Daniil and RBA have a few things in common that trouble Novak, flat flat groundies, good/great returns and most importantly the ability to stick with Novak in baseline exchanges.

Novak of a few years ago would have struggled against this Daniil too, but being even fitter and younger he would have prevailed. With Novak's age and form, the match is in the balance.

But Novak is a serial champion who brings it at slams, he'll come up with a strategy I'm sure.

It is possible that different variants could recombine to create a more pathogenic and infectious variant.

So tired of this fear porn.

“possible”, “could” “pathogenic”

ugh

If omicron becomes the dominant variant, the pandemic is essentially over due to how mild it is. Every variant has varied in infectiousness but has consistently declined in IFR.

Time to move on.

So tired of this

Time to move on.

This is exactly why there is a dramatic spike in hospitalizations and deaths in European countries such as Germany. People were tired of it and refused vaccination and now they cop the consequences.

Europe has about 70% vaccinated
Africa 2%

How does that explain low excess death numbers in Africa?

Instead of making assumptions either
way, just wait a few weeks until they’ve learned more about he virus. Will take about 3 weeks for the labs to reconstruct and test the variant.
