Interesting match. Murray beat Mannarino in 2 and then Alcaraz in 3. Zverev also in great form, only losing 1 match since Wimbledon and that was to Djokovic in 5 sets. H2H is 3-0 in favor of Murray. 2 of those wins came in 2016, 1 in 2020.

What do you think will happen? Poll included. I will go for Zverev in 3.

Easiest format to recover; Bo3 with days off between early rounds and rare chances for rain to bottleneck the schedule. The first set today was the only lengthy set. Muzz should be fine and the weather will be noticeably cooler AND very windy.

I’ll stick with the same choice I made for 2R: Muzz in three.

Interesting comment from Zverev when asked about his forthcoming encounter with Murray: "Murray is the only one of the Big 4 I haven't beaten".

So contrary to what many like to argue on here, the term Big 4 is not just an invention of Murray Fanboys.

Zed on hard is one of the best players today, any types of hard suits him really well. I don't see Murray standing a chance, but i say Zed in three(one free set to Murray, just like today againts Brooksby)

Id have backed Murray if this was miami. But IW is more favourable for Zverev so zverev in 3

Very close to it then if not in it
Which of these would you relegate to make Muzziah top 10 all time open era:

fedr
the Nadal
Joe Kovic
Sampras
Laver
Borg
Lendl
Connors
JMac
Agassi
Remember, OG was not available in peak eras for at least five of of these ATGs so don’t do the 3 plus 2 math to justify promotion.

Honestly neither player has been very successful at Indian Wells so it should be interesting, could well come down to mental resilience which makes me want to favor Murray. In any case really hoping for Murray to come through and not just for yet another #ABZ moment

Here's to hoping.

Not sure how any tennis fan isn't rooting like crazy for the Muzzard every time he goes out there

Murray has such a good cross court backhand but I dont get why he never takes it down the line. It would be such a deadly shot to add to his arsenal. It drives me nuts how passive he is.

The amount of times I see it when he has an opponent pinned back in a cross court backhand exchange and the down the line shot is wide open and begging and he doesn't hit it is too high!

I would love to see Murray hit down the line more on BOTH sides. I think after not too long he would get very good at it, he has the talent and the work ethic. Then life would start to get much easier for Mr Murray.

I said close to it although personally i prefer Murrays career to Lendl. In the 80s not having wimbleon was as big a hole in a cv as one could have

Agree to disagree. Lendl’s weeks at #1 and years ending as #1 >>>> Murray. Yeah, having a CGS would have been nice but it’s not the flaw you suggest.

If i were a pro player id want Wimbledon. Lendl not having it must hurt like mad to this day as he was good enough to win

Yes, I’ve met Lendl and peeps that introduced me to him in Vero Beach implied I would be invited back if I avoid certain taboo subjects, grass allergies being one of those verboten subjects.

Conversely, Zverev is the only one of the top Next Gen Murray has beaten.

I would be gutted if I had tickets and this was one of the matches on offer lol

I thought he'd have 2 days off after Alcaraz.
I tried to explain IW typically offers during early rounds one day off between matches with the top half and bottom half alternating play. If you know differently, please provide us when it’s happened in the past. There is no history of special dispensations from that format that I am aware of.

OoP will be out later today in the evening to confirm or deny when the match will be played.

Even peak Murray would be in trouble vs these guys and hus chances doesn't rise here. Z in 2 sets.

Lol... if he could notch up double digit victories against the Big 3 including Slams and other big titles I doubt peak Murray would lose much sweat over the current crop of pretenders!

Not sure Murray could make top 20 cut

Top 10 is just laughable
He is still a great player that made an impact

Top 10 fan base for their loyalty but I am dead certain he’s top 20 of Open Era players. Same for other multiple slam winners like Courier, Hewitt and Wawrinka.
