So proud of Rublev today, that is the reward for turning up consistently week in week out on the tour. It is no fluke, the pop off his ground strokes is amazing to watch.
Amazing - got a chance to watch him courtside a few years ago and it's jaw-dropping, especially coming from that sickly-looking little red-cheeked stick figure. And he was still light years from the player he is now. Too bad that, aside from Moya and a few ball boys, nobody was there to witness his greatest performance ever.

I'm surprised Rublev's flat strokes worked so well in this match. He was able to get some angles a bit sharper than on faster courts, so he did change his game a bit. He's got the power to beat anybody, but this has to be one of his biggest victories. He's a great guy and great player, so good for him.

Exactly. I was watching some amazing shots only to hear one person clap to acknowledge it or none even.
There would usually be at least a thousand or more in normal times.

I would think Vicente was there in force. Rubles and he are inseparable.

Interesting that the first two Masters tournaments of the year will result in a first time Masters champion.

Sign of the times?

He was, he was, I was being slightly hyperbolic.

But still, so sad to see such riveting points, which would normally culminate in thunderous crowd roars, vanish into utter silence or be greeted by an isolated clap - probably by Nando himself.
Limited capacity crowds will be there in Barca to give it some “normal” atmosphere. The King of 500s would love that title due to the Vicente connection, no?

Not really. 2017, 18 and 19 had plenty of new winners too. It didn't mean anything at the slams though.

Zverev x3
Dimitrov
Sock
del Potro
Isner
Khachanov
Thiem
Fognini
Medvedev x3
Hurkacz

Paris 17 - IW 18 - Miami 18 were 3 new winners in a row.
Paris 18 - IW 19 was 2 in a row, 3 out of 4 with Fognini's MC.

I got the Injury report. All the double faults that RAFA was hitting today was because of his lower back problem that acted up due to sudden cold weather

Rubles has passed Medvedev for #2 in the race, will pass Djokovic tomorrow for #1 if he beats Ruud.
Medvedev owns Rublevs head. Whenver they play you can see it from the moment when Rublev walks out and sees Medvedev. Must go back to their junior matches. IDK but it's an interesting thing to see. Love watching Med play and I think he's the best of the non big 3 but would like to see Rub also overcome this obstacle.

Yes, he was always the younger one in their junior days. He should be outgrowing that now, especially on clay (maybe on grass too) where Medfly will be his pigeon.

A lot of people think Medvedev is a bum after that Australian Open performance. The vast majority of the people on this board thought it would be Novak’s toughest test in years. Instead it was an absolute beat down. One of the most disappointing slam performances in years.

PPL think Medvedev is a bum? lol wow. What do they say about ranks 3-100?

Agree that Rubs should have his way with Med on clay. Thats a good point. Still...... needs to get over that mental hump! Betting nadal on clay should do it.....

I really don’t know what Rublev could do its a really bad match up for him everytime they play he just dismantles him. The AO match was particularly shocking, they both similarily cruised to the quarters and they seemed to both be playing really dominant tennis and then Medvedev made easy work of him.

I’d love to be a bum who’s ranked #2 in the world.

Including the two big upsets, anyone not really impressed at all by the levels in most of these matches? Quite a few of the matches have been decided on UE counts early in points rather than winners or forced errors. In several matches the winners have been behind in the longer rally counts.

RG is rafa’s house. He’s a lock there. Plus this match still not over. Rafa has been better 2nd set. This has no bearing on RG.
No, because of the covid. Even Rafa on RG is not safe from the covid either. Unless there is a conspiracy that the RG organizers will try to hide Nadal's positive test from the public. But if it were found out, it would be a huge scandal, which would damage the reputation of RG and the reputation of Nadal.

Report me for what, Gentleman??
Did I use cusswords/personal insults/abusive language against you? Absolutely not.
I have pointed out the negativity you spread around here, and asked you to stop it in a very polite manner time and time again, but you're not ready to stop putting efforts into adding negativity into this beautiful forum. Me trying to stop you from that in the most polite way possible is nowhere near an insult, sir.
For Christ's sake please stop spreading negativity.
Don't worry about @StrongRule, it doesn't have a sense. The guy lives in his world.

The lastest lowdown tells that today we'll see the upwardly mobile Greek strutt his stuff in the first set, before it's time for a severe mental breakdown in the second. The third set will be a battle of racking nerves, and the final result is yet to be unveiled. You can take this to the bank!
