Since paris carlos return and backhand havent been that good, he doesnt have a bad slice, sometimes i feel he should slice more and be more patient, he normally has the bigger weapon with that forehand, when he rushes things up it doesnt benefit him so much

First set very even, then alcaraz went up in intensity and rune evaporated

Wow,, Alcarez just schooled Rune. where is Mortogoru when you need him. he knows all the weaknesses of alcarez

Alcaraz wins in 3 straight sets; Nakashima won in 4 sets in his match. Alcaraz won all 4 games in that 3rd set. Would like to see him back up with his second serves, the way he has been the past two weeks - it was an area of weakness in his match with Rune today.

Yeah, FAA, Sinner, and Brooksby replacing Rune, Baez, and Gaston would have greatly improved this tournament.

Korda leads 2-0 in the third set. Gaston won the first two sets in tiebreaks.

Sebi finishes with a flourish...I don't want to see this format anywhere, but it works here when there aren't any points on the line.

I am really enjoying Baez today :) How tall is he? I am impressed by his play and I hope he wins this match!

Glad Baez won that match! That tiebreak was intense!

seems like a very lackluster field this year, surely the most since its inauguration. Alcaraz excepted.
Not sure but maybe there's some bias cause we've seen the previous years improve and break into the top 10. I for sure rate Alcaraz right now higher than any previous player I did at the time of their nextgen participation

That Korda win was pretty huge in terms of him making the semifinals. I know he is the #2 seed, but still... a win over Hugo with a shorty clay court player and an injured Musetti left in the round robin means that Seb has a pretty decent chance of going undefeated and playing the second qualifier from the other group in the semis. If that ends up being Nakashima, you'd have an American guaranteed in the final.

I am loving this tournament! It's an opportunity to see players I don't know well and see what their skills are. I was impressed by Sebastian Baez today. I do know Carlos Alcaraz well and was pleased with his level of play today too. It's the end of the year and the only tournament they are missing is the Stockholm Open; it's fine, no big deal. This is a very enjoyable tournament, regardless of the outcome.

Yes, he definitely has a good shot, but Baez wasn't playing like a clay court player today. He was painting the lines, although Musetti certainly was playing his best.

Interesting, Carlos and Brandon played earlier this year on clay at a Challenger. Carlos won, but it wasn't easy. Hoping Brandon can make things interesting tomorrow.

Hugo vs. Lorenzo - this will a rematch of a match played just last week in Paris, but the tables have turned and the homecrowd will be pulling for Musetti this time around.

Sebi vs. Sebi - I wonder if Baez will come out firing like he did today and whether Korda will feel any fatigue after his mini 5-setter

The best of five mini set format seems better to me than the best of 3 regular sets. It makes the average game feel more important while not shortening the overall tennis from a regular best of 3 format.

How do we feel about the scoring template - best of 5 sets to 4? Honestly, I like it as a one-off something different; though I wouldn't like to see it regularly. I like this event.

I have no idea who Baez even is. Or Cerundolo for that matter.

Yes, that's a valid point, but I am sure that I felt very differently about the previous fields at the time as well.

But part of that may be that I used to follow the young talents more closely before. Guys like Rublev, Tiafoe, Medvedev, Khachanov, Ruud, ADM, Coric, Chung were all very familiar to me when they participated, whereas most of these guys I just don't watch ever.

I see I did forget Musetti though.

Today I am rooting for Alcaraz, Baez, Cerundolo, and it's a toss-up with Gaston vs Musetti - I suppose I should root for Musetti, who will have the home country crowd behind him.

I had only seen Baez play once before this, really enjoyed his match yesterday. I had never seen Cerundolo play before yesterday.

Round robins can be tricky. So far this tournament has been fun to watch.

Alcaraz & Korda win their groups.
Nakashima-Rune and Gaston-Baez to decide the other semifinalists.

So far it looks very much like an Alcaraz-Korda final, although perhaps Gaston or could play spoiler? Nakashima or Rune too to a lesser extent.

I hope there are no surprises in the Alcaraz - Cerundolo match and Carlos wins it easy. He is already in the semis tomorrow; the other semi-finalists are all pending today's matches, according to one of the commentators on Tennis Channel.

I am thinking that the top two players from each of the sections will face each other in a semi and then the winner of each of those matches will play in the final?

Carlos dropped the third set but won 3-1, so he was 9-1 in his 3 Group A rounds and is on to the semis.
