The USO match most likelt would've played out differently had Djokovic not crumbled under pressure.
I only tuned in for the 3rd set of the final today, but the signs that Medvedev wasn't in the best mindset were obvious in his game and facial expressions. It was the same in the USO final but there he was able get over nerves because Djokovic was messing up big time. This time Daniil wasn't so lucky.

I'm glad I woke up early enough to catch the last two sets. Great win by Djokovic. He's not finished like some would have you believe. Can he reach 40 masters?

Zverev won two masters, so 7 different master winner, I know everybody is ABNZ but still in madrid he defeated Rafa

I'n not saying the backhand is bad, because it's not by a mile, but it's just not as good as it used to be. His peak backhand was so good though that even declined it can be a lethal shot when he's hitting it well.

If Medvedev had won he would have become the only player other than Djokovic to defend a Paris Masters title. But he didn't and so that's yet another record that Djokovic has established that nobody else seems capable of matching.
As it is, Djokovic's win puts him back alone atop the leaderboard for number of Masters titles won and is now only 2 behind Nadal in the leaderboard for overall titles won by current players.

I feel the same. When I invest my time into the match (late night PRC time), I am upset to see an inadequate performance from a pro in the final. However, we all should keep in mind that Djoker can wear anyone down badly and make his opponent look silly too. Novak is an incredible tennis player.

I've said it many times before - Medvedev mentally crumbles in close matches like this AND he is generally incapable of making comebacks when he falls behind (instead resorting to huge mental meltdowns like we saw in Australia and in Rotterdam). Yes he made a comeback against Cilic at Wimbledon but Cilic played like a mug in the final 2 sets.

That's a meager 3 but then again Novak only won 1 this year and 2 each previous season (although he only played 2 in 2020). Really depends on his ranking and Slam performance. I completely buy him not investing in Masters to do better at Slams so conceivably only plays 3 again next season but if he skips AO due to mandate then he might play IW, MI or both to compensate for point loss.
But betting wise I think he does get at least 3 more. A Clay Masters, plus Shanghai & Paris moving forward.
