2021 RG was the greatest tournament win in tennis history

Reasons:

1) decisive for the Slam title race. Should've been 21-18 Nadal.
2) no one had ever won the RG by beating Nadal
3) came back from 0-2 twice (vs Tsitsipas and Musetti)
4) Tsitsipas had a wonderful clay season and was #1 in the Race
5) Berrettini from the Roland Garros to Wimbledon lost only to Djokovic

I watched those matches again a few times.

4th round - 5sets
Quarters - tough 3.5 hour 4 setter with berritini
Semis - tough 4+ hour 4 setter with ClayGoat
Finals - Tough 4+ hour 5 setter with Tsisipas .

Berritini , Nadal , Tsisipas all won Clay court Tournaments and were in-form players .

RG 21 was historic  ❤

Beating Nadal alone almost makes it the greatest and it's a credit to Nadal for how invincible he has been at RG. Federer, Thiem, Ferrer, Murray, Wawrinka, Del Potro, etc all came throughout the years and perished.
A credit to Nadal's decline you mean :p Roman Reigns didn't beat peak Undertaker ;)

3 weeks prior and I have full confidence Rafa will be back next year. :D

He better be back. Rome was definitely nice given Nadal's hard draw, but it still wasn't classic Rafa. He needs a little more next year, he could and should have lost to Baepo and Tsitsipas this clay season.

2001 Wimbledon baby or 2001 usopen because of Sampras run and Hewitt win, or may be 2002 us open with Sampras dream ending victory

Rome defeat was a blessing in disguise for Djokovic. Every Mordor resident including @MichaelNadal was expecting some tasty bakery products vs Tiredovic, but it turned out to be a tight match that may have given Djoko the belief he can beat Nadal at RG.

I'm a bit salty about 2019 and 2021 Rome, both won over Tiredovic, but 2021 RG made it more than bearable.

Overall yeah, weak era or not, to do it at 34 was nothing short of legendary.

Lol no I wasn't. I was telling all the Ultronians he never runs out of energy and he wouldn't be tired, bc yall were parading that excuse around before the match (and he wasn't.... *shocker*) :D

Yeah I remember that, but he was indeed tired after playing long matches

Djokovic was not tired lol. He said he wasn't either, not that it matters bc he never is.
Well he really respect Rafa to say this( case against Fed may have been different), but comeon he really played two long matches and next day was the final

Hoping for a 3.5hr match 8-B
I want all of Djokovics matches to be as long as possible  every one. For the rest of his career 8-B
I hope Nadal reduces Djokovic to ashes today lol.

Nadal won 13 games in a row going from Quarters to semis against good clay players Schwartzman and Djokovic , and was leading 5-0 against Djokovic , then Nadal suddenly and shocking declined by 20 years and went on to lose the match .
So sad bruh :cautious:
That's the sudden decline that hits Fedal over night.

Remember Federer fans all super confident after the semis of Wimbledon 2015 and 2019?

But atleast , Fed is 5-6 years elder to Djokodal .

Nadal and Djoker are almost same age .( 11 months ) .
How does Nadal get old and decline but Novak doesn't ?? :-D

IMO, it was still a very very good version of Nadal that would beat the whole field except Djokovic. Technically sound as before, just lacking the fitness and mentality because of COVID to go 5 hours with Djokovic.

It was literally the worst clay version of Nadal in his entire career by games and sets won percentage. By far.

But you had no problem before the match to play down Djokovic and try to convince everyone he isn't as good as he has looked, especially on serve.

You too need to just admit you never saw this coming. You were totally expecting Nadal to emerge victorious and once he didn't you changed tune.

Why do you have such a difficult time comprehending statistics and facts? Stop trying to inject subjectivity or opinion into this. It was Nadal's worst clay season ever by games and sets won percentage - by far. That is a fact. Clearly worse than even 2015. Djokovic's form was far from impressive, he merely put a terrible Nadal out of his misery. My believing Nadal had or would flip the switch has no bearing on facts.

Do not forget that Fedr surrendered because he shat a brick.

No it wasn't. He had worse games won percentage in 2006, 2009, 2011, 2013 and 2015. Then there were some years where it was better by far and some years where he was very similar to 2021.

In terms of sets, yea obviously it's gonna be a little worse since he lost a match. And bar the Djoko match, he only lost 1 set.

Greatest in history? Not even close. However it may end up being the most IMPORTANT yes.
We heard million times that "hardest thing in tennis is to beat Nadal on PC"... And when you do beat him and win FO with few additional notes from OP, how it isn't greatest slam win?
You mention history and yes, that's another addition why this slam is greatest ever...

It's one of the greatest tournament in history.

A few more contenders from men's side.
AO2017 is at the top.
Wimbledon 1980
Wimbledon 2001
USopen 1991
Wimbledon 1985
USopen 2011

If all goes down to the last ball, USopen 2021 has chance to be the greatest tournament in history.

Maybe not the greatest win, but it was outstanding to see Djokovic beating the King of Clay and that after the beatdown he received in their previous match on the same court.
