Wow. This is probably the toughest French Open draw for Nadal ever.
Djokovic's draw is the easiest except that he faces Nadal in the SF.

Great opportunity for Titspas. If Thiem is off, Titspas CAN make the final.
And in the final he would face a tired Novak/Nadal.

I like that Rafas draw is tougher than the past. No excuses if he wins this year. Will be a tremendous achievement and no talk of easy draw.

He cannot even go deep in his hometown Geneva tournament and he himself said in an interview that he does not expect anything from this year's FO and certain not to win it!
I know why he's not in it, I'm just noting that it still hurts! Ends his streak of successive years in the world famous TW RG poll.

Garin has to be the favorite out of Section 8 (Medvedev). I might have penciled in Tommy Paul as co-favorite were he not wasting energy this weekend at Parma. Same for Munar. Same for Martin at Belgrade.

Saddest section at a slam in a long while. If I were tinfoil hatted I would have to say it’s as if FFT forgot the bottom slot in it was not owned by The Nadal.

Old school top half and new school bottom half is going to make this fascinating.

Its amazing how the bracket breaks down

Top half is Big 3 + Rublev
Bottom half is Zverev, Thiem, Tsitsipas and Medvedev.

I think Tsitsipas makes it out of the bottom for his first slam final.

Has Nadal, in his storied career, ever twisted an ankle (or pulled a hammie, or gotten hit in the eye with a ball, or been struck with an attack of violent diarrhea) during a match and been forced to retire? I mean, I know he's complained about being hurt after matches, and I know he's been besieged by more injuries than the rest of the world combined - all incredibly serious and career-ending for any other human. But has he ever actually incurred some freak injury mid-match, after which he could literally not continue? It's a serious question. Can anyone jog my memory?

And was straight setted by Schwartzman last year? Your point?
For the 100th time...If according to you a tired Djokovic breadsticked Nadal and almost won the match, what will stop a rested Djokovic to destroy Nadal after coming from a 250 level draw? A few years ago you could use the argument that RG is not Rome, but given the new Djokovic Open conditions there isn't much difference now.

AO 2018 vs Cilic.

He retired in the 2018 US Open Semis to Del Potro.
There are others but don't remember off the top of my head where.

Djokovic still lost the match so who cares? It was a good effort from him in Rome, but the chances of replicating it in BO5 are extremely slim.

Last year Nadal hit like 3 unforced errors in the first two sets. There is no way he can repeat this performance.
I trust him more than I trust Djokovic.

Sure, Djokovic's stamina these days is better (only these days, historically Rafa's is better), but on clay he just can't hit through Nadal like he can on other surfaces. He lacks the power.

Yeah, we saw in Rome how he "lacks the power". And if this match happens, the organizers will probably make sure to put it as late as possible, so Djokovic will have an extra advantage.

Anyway, there is a chance Nadal will not even get that far. But no such chance with Djokovic, given his draw.

Rome was just one match LOL. Djokovic has declined the most on clay, compared to Rafa. Unless Rafa is in 2015 form, he is lot losing to a declined Djoker on it. His base level is still better than Novak's.

Djokovic declined on clay and Nadal didn't? Lol. A bit less luck and Nadal would have 0 clay titles this year. He had to save matchpoints in both Barcelona and Rome, and both times he was saved by flukes on big points.

But this year Djokovic is in even better form, and his draw is easier.
He hasn’t won a clay title yet this year. I’m a big Djokovic fan but I even realise he’s not coming into RG in awesome form. This is not 2011, 2015 or 2016 Djokovic. At best I hope Novak gets to semi and puts up a fight against Rafa. That’s all but I don’t expect him to win.

He is going to win Belgrade 2 now, and the draw he got in RG is pretty much a 250 draw as well. Nadal on the other hand might not even reach the semifinals, as his draw is full of big hitters.

The only plus for Novak is getting Rafa in semi. The reason being he will probably get to face him in better physical condition and he’s not behind Rafa on schedule as they in same half. Although that depends how Novak deals with the 5 opponents prior. He needs to win fast to then have any chance against Rafa in semi but still it’s a long shot. If he can get to semi and take a set of Rafa and push him I’d call that a big victory.

Still it only increases by a few percent as Rafa still the clear favourite.

That's a tough draw for Rafa. Djokovic has a free pass to the semis. And lol about Medvedev being second seed in this tournament.

Just because Nadal did not get easiest draw possible does not mean it is a tough draw. Yes playing Djokovic ( who has an easier draw than him) earlier than final is more challenging but the fact that he got Rublev for quarters instead of Tsitsipas or particularly Zverev gives him a enough breathing space. Players he will face before QF is irrelevant, hard to see him losing a set.

If playing Belgrad does not affect Djokovic, we could have a match at SF like in 2013 where the winner will manage to pull out a victory by the skin of his teeth.
