You could tell from the first point he stepped on court to win. All in all, he played at a very high level. Unfortunately, still lacks enough solutions to finish point against the top guys. And the proverbial sinneritis is still there.Sinner is really really mad. He barely looked at Nadal during the handshake. I like this. I like it a lot.
Sinner vs Zverev IMOSinner continues to basically be Zverev without a serve
Needs maturity in his game. Threw away 40 mins of hardwork with 2 Forehand unforced errors on two sitters at 4-3 30-15 up serving. In their 2 matches Sinner lost 4 sets after being a break up. A bit worrying for him.
Yeah, I wonder what that matchup would look likeI really want to see Nadal playing Karatsev in the semis
It's called "sinneritis". Those of us who haven't missed a match since Bergamo are all too familiar with it. It includes small batches of disheartening UEs at the worst possible moments, finding new and exciting ways to lose points that are already won, and ALWAYS drawing the worst possible opponent as early as possible.Needs maturity in his game. Threw away 40 mins of hardwork with 2 Forehand unforced errors on two sitters at 4-3 30-15 up serving.
Actually yes.
2021 CYGS = #21 , no?
Nadal has an impossible opponent for him in the 1/4 finals.I really want to see Nadal playing Karatsev in the semis
Nobody ever holds serve, is my guess. Nadal a 66-33 favorite i'd say.Yeah, I wonder what that matchup would look like
except a serveSinner threw everything at Rafa

Sinner served well, didn't he?except a serve
Has he ever?Sinner served well, didn't he?
Rafa ended that match in brilliant fashion.... I don't understand those that doubt his RG chances, where the BO5 format gives him MORE room for these little lulls we saw at the beginning of the 2nd set. Rafa has SO MUCH TIME and COURT at RG, it's impossible to best him when he's in form. Oh and he will be in form.
1. Again Sinner got to face Nadal in very favorable conditions. Cool and super humid. Still it's Nadal in straights.
2. Nadal's groundstrokes took a step forward today.
3. Nadal serve still needs a lot of work.
4. I really respect Sinner's on court demeanor. Super impressive for 19. Always looks extremely calm and collected.
Sinner is so impressive...Rafa keeps surprising - thought Sinner was bullying him in the second....A match like that may affect Rafa further down the line...He should get a day off tomorrow
As Rafa would say, it means he is in the SF.I really want to see Nadal playing Karatsev in the semis
His forehand was better today. But that is also a function of the surface and conditions.@TennisFan3
Very good performance from Rafa today, a few FH DTL were missing by a few mm, but towards the end of the match it was finding its range more often.
I agree with you that his serve is not too convincing, not a great first serve percentage, and he's not creating too much damage with it either. That is a key area of his game he has to try and improve before RG.
We will see. He has to win 7 matches. One at a time.
We want #21
I want 27 though
Sinner saved Nadal by taking Zverev out last year. Zverev would have beaten Nadal in the 1/4 finals.Sinner is a more talented version of Djokovic, and therefore it made sense that Sinner was the biggest threat to Nadal at Roland Garros last year.
He's the only prodigy in tennis.
Zverev is a loser, 0-9 vs. Top 10 players at slams.Sinner saved Nadal by taking Zverev out last year. Zverev would have beaten Nadal in the 1/4 finals.

See your point, yet if you lose to someone like Popyrin early in tournaments, I don't think you should complain when you get a tough draw.Decent performance from Sinner overall. Wish he will stop getting such tough draws early on.
Why he needs practice? Good matches help.Agreed. Would have preferred an hour shorter lol
Why he needs practice? Good matches help.
The last thing Nadal needs is practice. Why he needs practice? Good matches help.
Sinner vs Zverev IMO
Sinner- better backhand (by far), slightly better forehand.
Zverev - better defense, better movement/reach, better net play and FAR better serve (when it works)
ROS - slight edge Zverev
I would give the edge in intangibles to Zverev (for now) since there are times when everything in his game clicks. During those very brief times he is unplayable.
Sinner's serve is really bad for someone of his dimensions. He can improve his results 200% by just a 30% improvement in his serve.
They are close. But I think Sinner's backhand is slightly better. More fluid mechanics, better pace generation, better accuracy DTL - sort of Novak like. He has more easy power compared to Zverev. Zverev though is better on the run while stretching and defending.Zverev has a great backhand. It’s definitely on par with Sinner’s. It’s his forehand that’s garbage. It’s almost Murray like.
Stuff like bolded will make you lose a lot of credibility on this board.Sinner is a more talented version of Djokovic, and therefore it made sense that Sinner was the biggest threat to Nadal at Roland Garros last year.
Nadal's willpower in this gif just shows why he's an ATG
