In 2019 they played final too...

Novak had qf evening match against Delpo that finished after midnight...

In SF he had again evening match against Diego that finished after midnight...

Nadal had easy qf and sf...

Novak was gassed in final...

This year again Novak screwed by schedule... Again, and again and again...

I wonder if Novak will ever again have chance to play one clay match on even terms against Nadal...

Nadal in two easy sets...
Even terms??, Rg 2020 final wasn't even terms then what was please tell?

Anything other than a Nadal win would be surprising. No way after playing over 5 hours of intense tennis will Djokovic be ready for the clay GOAT

Lol did you actually say that Tsitsipas is an easier player than Diego Schwartzman. That is preposterous. Nadal handled his semi final in Rome 2019 better. Plus you have yourself to blame if you take so long to dispose off Del Potro on clay (weak in USO 17 on hard but a gladiator in ROme 2019 on clay) and Diego.

Nadal might not be mentally ready himself. Especially given that it will be a late final, so Djokovic will have the night session advantage.

Honestly, let Djokovic have Rome. I accepted that Djokovic is the best player in this tournament, though it is really sad that he again benefitted from his opponents choking. What matters is RG, and after today I'm even more afraid that Djokovic is a lock for the title there.

Don't eat any bakery products Novak lol...

It's on Nadal's racket and it depends on which one shows up. The crappy one we occasionally saw earlier in the clay season, even against Shapovalov earlier this week, Djokovic could definitely threaten that guy. Otherwise it is going to be very difficult.

In 2019 Djokovic also played more, and yet Nadal found a way to choke a set. Mentality is THE main thing in tennis. No matter the form, you can't win if you have big mental problems against that opponent.
But how many times does Nadal need to prove to you that he doesn't have mental problems against Djokovic on clay?

Advantage may go to Djokovic if they find themselves in a super tight match, but their clay matches are never close anymore. Despite the fact that you think straight set wins were 1 point away from becoming losses.

The better player will win - that should be Rafa on clay at this stage of their careers. Novak doesn’t seem to have the offensive firepower anymore from the baseline to trouble top players on clay and has to grind it out in almost every match. He certainly doesn’t look like the player who used to force Nadal into errors and beat him on clay between 2011-2016.

What happened to Djokovic’s outstanding serve form from the AO? I know it’s clay, but he is not trying to serve as big anymore and I didn‘t see him winning too many free points on service in the last couple of months. If he doesn’t get too many easy, quick points against Nadal, I doubt that he is going to outlast him like he does against other players on clay.

What strategy can Novak use to beat Nadal tomorrow? I don’t have the answer and I wonder if his coaching team does.

The match is supposed to play at 5pm local time, so it will be a night session. Difficult time for Nadal ahead.

Djokovic can exploit Nadal's serve. Simple as that.

Lol, yes, don't project players from two years ago to present time...

Can we stop with this nonsense of moving the final from sunday to monday?

Do you people actually realize there are people who bought tickets for the sunday final and are working on monday? What are you going to say to ticketholders, "hey skip your work on monday so that Novak has a bit more recovery time?".

Similarly, I, like many other people, am working on monday and cannot watch the match if it was moved to monday.

In the end, Djokovic and Nadal are multi-millionnaires thanks to the audience, and they would be nothing if not for the people watching them play (either live or on TV).

Are all people on this board either unemployed or retired? Sometimes I do really wonder...

Rewatch Rome 2016 and then come back to me. Biggest choke of Nadal's career, probably the lowest point he ever reached.

Novak Djokovic played 5 sets of tennis on Saturday (2 against Tsitsipas, 3 against Sonego).

Possible 3 sets in the final would mean in total 8 sets in about 30 hours.

Not bad for 34-year old player constantly seeking for his tennis schedule optimization.

Lol you Djoko fans are the biggest hypocrites. In Rome 2019 Tsitsipas was weak opponent and Diego was a gladiator and in RG 2020 Diego became a mug and Tsitsipas is a tough opponent. Please think before posting.
There is world of difference between two years.
See djokovic AO 2007 and 2008

Like playing 5 setter against Tsisipas while Rafa played relaxed training match against Schartzmug, plus extra day of rest thanks to schedule...?
So tsitsipas in RG 2020 is tough and schwarzman is a practice session but in Rome 19 Tsitsipas is mug and Schwartzman is a gladiator. DO you not think it is Djokovics fault he let the matches drag on. BTW in RG 2020 Novak played 20 mins more than Nadal.

Expect this to be a thriller. 3 set match. Very close to call.

I'm going to go with Novak in 3, given the way Nadal is serving. But wouldn't be surprised if Nadal won it in 3 and Novak wore out in set 3.

Either way - I don't expect a straight set affair.

Lol ok lets see. Schwartzman in 2020 reached Rome final and RG SF. What did he do in 2019? And in 2019 Tsitsipas reached Madrid final beating Rafa. So who were the form players in respective years. Please don't just argue just for the sake of arguing. Accept your defeat and move on.

Nadal in 2

but wouldn't be surprised to see Djokovic win, he's got a decent record vs Nadal here I think

RG is a different ball game altogether though

Some of these same posters ridicule Fedfans with the whole “Peak Fed wins all hypotheticals” thing but then whine that Novak doesn’t have totally perfect conditions to beat Nadal. It’s all excuses.

Nadal will defeat non-tired Djokovic in 2, or maybe 3.

Djokovic is not the same on clay than hard. But some of his fans are so scared that already put excuses.

If Djokovic has any self respect, he won't even show up tomorrow, thus giving Rome the final it deserves.

Nadal 2-0, but the first set is going to be a battle. Rafa is really intelligent and good at going at a player's weakness, in Djokovic's case it will be fatigue.

I really think this would be a 3 set classic if played with equal rest though. Djokovic impressed me heavily today.

Strategy would be to put Nadal on pressure when the Spaniard serves. And NOT use drop shots. Also go hard into Nadal's backhand and then finish the point with the winner on to Nadal's forehand.

Nadal is favored for sure. But he surely does need to serve better. Even Titspas/Zverev put pressure on Nadal's serve. Novak's ROS is on a different stratosphere compared to those guys.

For Nadal he needs to serve BIGGER and take offense earlier in the point. He won't outgrind Novak.
