USO? We are talking about their level today, not two years ago.

LOL!

If you think Novak played the best level of clay Nadal can play at today, you are deluding yourself. He was subpar and taking a mental walkabout for half the match, and Novak still lost.

Good fight by Novak. As a fan, you should be pleased. But you also need to be realistic about what you are watching. Nadal can switch off for half the match and still beat Novak who is zoning for almost the entire match. There are levels to this.

You seem confused. No one disagrees that Nadal is greater than Novak in clay

Not the point. the question is whether Nadal’s HC today is greater than Novak’s clay level. Novak has reached the finals of the last two Romes (winning one) and the last FO, only stopped by the clay goat. In the last 3 HC tournaments Nadal played (AO, WTF, Paris) he couldn’t go past the SFs.
I never try to compare Nadal's HC level and Djokovic's CC level at any time. Impossible to measure.

Novak should’ve forfeited the match because he’d do the world a favour and finally put an end to the Nadal’s purple and pink abomination of an outfit a bit sooner.
It's nearly as bad as Rublev's light pink shirt that clashes with his orange hair

Nadal skipped the entire North American Summer hardcourt swing (his best performing hardcourts) last year because of Covid-19, so we simply don't know. You can only know how good Nadal's current hardcourt level is when he plays on his best hardcourts.

So you are kinda gloating over nothing. Wait till the North American Summer hardcourt swing starts, and if Nadal starts getting abused by players there, you will have a valid point.

Well yeah...c'mon dude. Nadal has lost to Rublev in best of 3 on clay this season. He lost to Schwartzman last season. He is not the same animal in clay Best Of 3 that he is in RG. Any fool knows this. Pushing Rafa in best of 3 on clay these days is not some rare or amazing feat. Yet Novak still couldn't take 2 sets off Rafa in a Best Of 3 clay match, where decent clay players have their best chance to score a win off Rafa.

Novak is not winning the French Open (certainly not if he has to face Rafa and take 3 sets off him). Rafa can beat ANYBODY at the US Open. So where it matters (The ability to win a slam on a surface), Nadal's hardcourt level is higher than Djokovic's clay level.

Nadal can beat anybody at the USO? We'll see about that and see you in September.

First he said this is the 55th time that he was asked about next gen this week, then he laughed and said "we are nextgen", then the camera showed nadal smiling.
God bless! Haha honestly they aren't wrong, 35 is the new 25 nowadays :D

Tennis is just unreal, 3 men dominating so brutally over such a long time period. Has this happened in any other sports other than tennis?

This match has hoodwinked many here:

Nadal was on backfoot both because of stellar play from Djokovic AND his stupid mistakes and misses

The later has become very very common for Nadal these days.

If he fixes that, Djokovic won't stand a chance at RG, that's what I learned today.

But the keyword is *if* . If he doesn't fix that he is going to have trouble against Djokovic.

There is a small but real chance for Djokovic and others this RG if he doesn't fix his mistakes.

Rafa or anyone other sponsor player has very little say as to what colors they wear on court. Remember they are pay to be billboards!

Rome overall had some TERRIFICALLY exciting matches! Players were showing their best! Congrats to Nadal and to Djokovic for making it so close! It was a great final!
For me it was quite a letdown to see so many players coming close to beating Djokodal but being unable to follow through. Reminds me of the old days, with traumatic matches like Almagro vs Nadal at Bercy. But at least it gave us the most exciting final.

I’m not gloating about anything. We had a whole thread on the topic. The question was about their perceived level today, not in the summer or back in 2019. The point is that the evidence today is strong that Nadal’s HC level is lower than Novak’s clay level. What will happen in the future will happen in the future. We’ll see

Yes, he will be the favorite because he is king of clay and won there 13 times.
But this year he is not playing like the king of clay. He is getting older and declining. It is showing in his game big time.
Gosh, let's see, the clay is slower at Roland Garros, I guess that will decline him more.

You have to love djokonuts. Their man loses and they see it as proof Djok is better then the bloke who just beat him. I’m guessing that if Wimbledon 2019 had gone the other way you all would still be saying that match shows how much better Djok is than Fed.
