I think win or lose tonight Novak is going to go on a slump after tonight's match.

If he wins then it will be such an historic achievement and put him so far ahead of Rafa and Roger in GOAT debate, that he might struggle to regain motivation at least for a good few months.

If he loses then it will be such a hard blow to recover from that he is bound to go on a downer and it might take him while to pick himself back up.

I think if you told me Novak was going to win tonight but that he would never win another slam and retire in 12 months, i think I would take that. As, i said you cannot underestimate just how epic this achievement would be in grand scale of things.

I think it could go either way and am expecting a very hard fought battle with highs and lows from both sides.

Djokovic have played lot, he must be tired a little bit, on average 3 hours and 30 minutes for last four matches.
Fun fact.. Djokovic is 4-5 in slam final after having 5 set win in semi
I've seen many posters saying this. Like 3 h 30 min is a lot in BO5.
The average BO5 match lasts around 3 hours.

AA is 100% capacity lol. The cheapest seat is only about $150 more expensive than the cheapest Final seat was in DC when Rafa announced he was joining the tournament. I think Federer-Nadal AO 2017 was something like $1,500 for the cheapest ticket.
Not sure where you are looking but I just looked on Ticketmaster and the cheapest seat I see is $316 and it's in the last row at the top of the stadium. Seats in the next section down, not even close to the court are $1200 and up. Then the next section is $3500 and up with ones close to the court at $10000. All these are resale anyway since virtually no regular seats are available and haven't been since he made the final. This is what you would expect for a match like this.

Nope, for straight four matches it is lot, why do you think Edberg us Open 92 win is legend, because of similar circumstances or Guga RG win.

Unlike in the first four rounds where it was just me being hopeful that Djokovic wouldn't win, and the semi with Zverev, where I honestly thought it was a 50/50 chance and my reservation was about Zverev's ability to keep positive and tolerate when Djokovic starts winning and immediately hit the reset button when that happens, I really honestly think that Medvedev is going to win. I have him at 80% and Djokovic at 20% chance of winning, based on statistics, and weather conditions, which all favor Medvedev. That 20% for Djokovic is mostly about his digging in deep and finding his way out of trouble most of the time against most players, but I think that is mitigated by his problems in matches when he wants to win too much.

RIght or wrong I think Medvedev actually has the better shot at winning tonight.

Dude. What are you spewing lol?

Not sure where I'm looking? I literally said StubHub. And tickets have now gone DOWN since I posted with several listings now under $300 and tons under $400.

These are some of the cheapest tickets I have seen for a USO Final this decade.

I don’t really care about the popularity of the Big 3 and certainly don’t care about rubbing it into Novak fans’ faces, but that’s genuinely incredible. A little sad, even, that people don’t have more interest in witnessing history, regardless of who it is that’s achieving it.

Why does it matter so much in your opinion?

Stan spent 22 hours winning in 2016, while Novak played 10 hours less with a W/O and two retirements. Yet it was Novak who had physical issues while Stan seemed fine.

Novak has looked tip top physically and mentally, he even says he likes long matches and knows his chances increase as a match goes on.

EDIT: Novak has played many straight set matches that has lasted 3:30? I thought he lost sets to all but Griekspoor?

Stubhub is a resale company, yes? Sounds to me like they are trying to recoup their money fast before the match. You get regular tickets on ticketmaster and I see that they have released a few here and there and they are definitely not under $300. I don't see one under $500. I know you need to do this to make it seem like no one cares though so have at it. :D

Why ridicule? Why can't you just be happy that your guy won and leave others alone? I know if I am right I will say so but I won't gloat or say "ha ha, you were wrong!". I have come to understand that his fans are excited and want him to win so much that an intelligent discussion and an admission that he might lose is too hard for them to contemplate.
You make cogent points and i have decided to un-bookmark your poast

Best of look with the prediction

Very rare a straight three set match will last 3 hours, see his Wimbledon matches, apart from one odd like Shapo which still lasted less than three hour, mostly a three set win is around 2 hours, 2016 example is wrong, Novak never got match practice and was not match fit, as he got 2 walkover and 2 retirement.
He lost set in first match but won all three set quickly and then got easy second match so he managed to recharge, now no easy match for last four match.
There is a reason when Novak wins semi in straight he never looses slam final.
While he is 4-5 in slam final after five set semi win in slam

Stubhub is the secondary market for tickets in the US, not a "resale company" they don't need to recoup anything, they hold no tickets and make commission off of sales. And the tickets are well in line or LESS than the average for a US Open Final despite the CYGS.

You do understand that face value cost through Ticketmaster/US Open remains the same at every grand slam with minimal change regardless of who is playing or what the storylines are? The only way to measure demand is through the secondary market. It doesn't even make sense that there are any face value tickets still available. All official tickets through the DC Open for the Final sold out in about a day after Rafa announced he was playing.

Seems like my posts may have spurred on the dozen or so Djokovic fans in the NY area to attend the match as the tickets remaining under $300 sold lol - still at typical USO levels though.

This poll versus AO 2021 poll are night and day. Novak leads this one roughly 2:1, whereas in February it was roughly even, slight edge to Daniil.
Your man certainly has a good chance today. Meddy is playing well and looked solid all tournament. Since the olympics his picked up his form a lot. Djoko has got better and better this tournament and now looks in good shape. I see a very close match and think we will get some epic tennis and rallies. I like both players and while I hope Djokovic makes history I respect Meddy a lot. I think Meddy has multiple majors in him for sure.

May the best man win on the day! :)

I am going to try to watch the match, at least the first set. If Djokovic is dominating and it is clear that he will win I will likely take a break and check in on the score to see if there is any hope. I get too anxious during matches where I desire one outcome over another (for example the FO semi in May between Rafa and Novak). I prefer matches like yesterday's women's final, where I wanted Emma to win, but wouldn't have minded if Leylah had won. If the final had been Medvedev vs. Zverev I wouldn't be in a state of anxiety. It's just the way I am as a tennis fan. It's really only Djokovic matches that I feel this way about, which makes life particularly hard this year!!!

Secondary market or resale. Lol. They buy standard tickets and then resale them to make a profit. I buy tickets from Ticketmaster all the time so I know how this works. Like I said, you need feel better about this and of course it's always about Rafa. Lol.

I think it's a little more complex than that. For starters, there is an opponent :)

But right now is it doesn't matter because no player on tour has the mindset to beat Novak in a slam.

There's no "they" lol, it's individual sellers on the platform not StubHub. And you're too dim to recongize that,

1. It's a total self own to point out that face value tickets are still available,

2. What you're incorrectly stating has literally no meaning at all because the prices are still remarkably low for a CYGS attempt. They're literally within $50-$100 of Nadal-Anderson prices and well under Fedal speculative prices.

It doesn't matter if it's scalpers attempting to make a profit. The argument is demand : prices and these prices are still EXTREMELY low. You don't have to know very much about tennis to recongize that. Under $300 for a grand slam final at any time is a sweet deal but for a CYGS attempt!?

It's amazing that you're just like your hero himself lol. Instead of owning up to people indifference towards him you fight tooth and nail to convince people that he's loved when every piece of evidence indicates otherwise lol

You're just being pedantic just to be annoying this point. I've already said everything you already outlined. It's still a resale company, as I said, that resales tickets for events. That's what "they", this company does.

I said have at it since you need people to believe no one cares. Lol. I don't need to convince anybody of anything. You keep bringing up Rafa but last time I checked, Medvedev and Djokovic are playing tonight.

Lol, once again kiddo, It's not a resale company, it's a resale market, and that has less than nothing to do with the point. You recongize this and are failingly attempting to distract from how cheap tickets are, especially compared to years past. Who is selling the tickets has nothing to do with a lack of demand keeping prices dirt cheap.

The fact that tickets are so cheap for a CYGS is mind blowingly noteworthy whether you like it or not.

The fallacy is just breathtaking.

"Wow, bananas are just 1-cent per lb? I guess there isn't a lot of demand for bananas this season."
"Wait bro, who is selling? Oh that's just BananaHub, the banana resale market. They just want to recoup money on their bananas. Somehow that proves that bananas are in demand despite costing $0.01 per lb."

Yeah not much chat….Feel like most feel it is inevitable and many want to avoid :( Other than Novak fans….Don’t feel like media are giving it enough coverage either…If it were someone else get the sense there would be more excitement/anticipation…I just want it to be next week and put it behind me - maybe others are the same?! Don’t know of course :)

I was putting all hopes in Zverev stopping Djokovic as gamewise he seemed the one who could do it, but in the end it seems Djokovic's aura so intimidating, so confidence shaking that he can just get away with playing worse. For this final, having overcome the storm that was Zverev Novak had an additional confidence boost and I think the task is even higher for Medvedev now. It's difficult seeing this mental aspect not coming into play to ruin the day no matter what form Daniil brings.

Every single tennis expert from ESPN, tennis channel, commentators, analysts are ALL picking Novak.
Unbelievable that this one is so one sided.
Everyone thinks Zverev was a greater threat, which Novak overcame.

I know Novak's been losing 1st set in matches, but if Medvedev does NOT win the 1st set - the match is as good as OVER.

This is exactly what happened in AO 2021 F. Losing the 1st set, Med totally panicked. 1st set he did a LOT of running and still lost. He started to try to be aggressive and change things, but it didn't work. It's not his natural game.
On the other side, Novak got even more free after winning set 1 and started to play even better. Consequently, Med got destroyed in set 2/3.

Medvedev cannot outgrind Novak for 5 hours. His ONLY hope is that he wins set 1. And then he can try to grind more with Novak and hope that the Serb gets tight and starts missing forehands (like Novak did vs Brooksby).

But boy, for Med to even come close to winning 2 sets or more - he will need to play the match of his life. And run the most he has EVER ran on a Tennis court.
