Congrats to Daniil. I don't like Djoko. In the past year, he 1. hit a lines woman with a ball at USO last year, 2. threw his racket in anger into the stands in Tokyo, 3. threw his racket at the net post in Tokyo so hard it cracked with ball kids, lines people and the umpire in the area, 4. cracked his racket into smithereens in USO final and 5. came within inches of smacking a ball in anger in USO final and frightened a ball kid in the process. Djoko tries so hard to sell the nice guy thing but he really isn't a nice guy. All the commentators tried to sell Djoko as they thought a Grand Slam would be good for the sport. I was wondering why no one criticized him for smashing the racket or called out his behavior in Tokyo and today's USO final. I am glad he lost.

Djokovic was spent, tired emotionally and physically. I'm not making excuses for him but that's what I've observed throughout this tournament. He's clearly the best player in the world so unless he declines rapidly I see him as favourite for all the slams next year.

Medvedev dropped 1 set, he's looked calm and composed throughout.

As long as he's fully awake and firing at RG to hammer Dull all will be good.

Yes yes yes ..
I just got up. Its 6 am here at india. 5 mins back i had a bad dream that novak Djokovic won with score of 6-0, 6-2, 6-2 which felt ttoo too real.
But hey that was dream. Amd when i woke up and opened the score cant beleive it finally happened.

Danil Medvedev had done the unthinkable.
He saved mens tennis.

And poetic justice exists. This felt so so right after w19

I can't believe what just happened is this a dream? A dream within a dream? Is this the inception? Am I in the Matrix?

Djokovic’s loss today had no effect at all on my Wimbledon 19 final deception.
Deep inside, I even wanted Nole to win.

Idk if anyone already said this, but it just hit me that Novak basically had his Roger moment from 7 years ago, basically the same age.

This was probably the most helpless a Big 3 player has looked against a non-Big 3 player at the business end of a slam since Roger against Cilic in the 2014 semis. Fed was pretty gassed from the marathon with Monfils the round before, and came out flat right from the start in the semis. Cilic served supremely and shut down any semblance of momentum Fed tried to gain. Just completely took the racket out of his sluggish hands.

What if they did this to Federer, every year from 2007 till today?

I wouldn't care. The NY crowd has always been a loud, obnoxious, disrespectful, fickle group of fans. They shout out while players are serving; they cheer faults; they change loyalty on a dime; they ignore the chair's pleas to remain quiet during points, they boo during trophy ceremonies...

I've always despised these types of fans. I personally think I'd perform better as a player with these annoying fans against me rather than with me.

And Verstappen tried to drive an F1 car on Lewis Hamilton's head! What a day it's been.

Doubt it, his game is just not as brutal as Thiem's is. Also this slam is far more impressive than winning/not losing a double-faulting choke contest, it's a bigger title to build up confidence on.

Never though much of Med if I'm honest but dude's near unbeatable on HC lately except against one guy (whom he beat today) so hats off to him. Didn't expect him to play this well in a slam final, he was serving like a demon in the opening set.
I'm curious to see what you think of Med's future. I'm just always reminded of Pete-Safin match, where Safin blew Pete over in straight sets.
But then Safin underachieved massively. You think that will be true of Med as well?

I feel certain that Djokovic will win more slams - just not sure how many because I do think the younger players are getting more confident and more able to win. I also think if Rafa regains his health he could win more slams with the same caveat. I do think Federer will never win again though.
Novak will definitely win more slams. But now the next gen will be more confident.

AO - Medvedev is now favourite. Zverev also posts a great challenge
FO - Nadal will be back
W - nobody stops novak
USO - Medvedev again

Going back to 2nd set set point ... what a **** show that point was. Medvedev with a botched drop shot or whatever that was and Novak sending the gimme wide with a terrible BH. Medvedev started getting cute with some shots and opened a door but Novak had nothing today. Other than that Medvedev was basically flawless today.

I know you're not asking me but I sniff something of a transitional era rather than a new King, but expect Meddy to capitilise on at least one more opportunity and probably more.

I’m pretty sure you accidentally mixed up their double faults. Med had far more double faults. Otherwise, good stuff.

At one point, Med led Djoker 16-7 in rallies more than 5 shots. That stat was stunning to me.

Pretty much this.

Hmm, I don't know about that. I feel like there's more competition on clay for Novak than hard-courts. How many comebacks at RG this year? Those guys aren't going to be worse next year, at least I don't think so.

I’ll give you the “emotionally”, but physically? C’mon. First, he hadn’t played a match since the Olympics, so he had a full month to rest.

Second…he played a 5-setter, 4-setter, 4-setter, and a 5-setter to win the French just 3 months ago. How is it he’s suddenly physically tired after two somewhat routine 3 1/2 matches?

No, sorry. He was extremely nervous, and those nerves sucked the energy out of his legs, not his previous two matches.

Yeah, too many idiots in the US, they refuse to take vaccine even though nearly a million of them died of Covid! And every single day, thousands more die for their stupidity and selfishness.

It is not just Zverev match or the time he spent on the court in this tournament, wear and tear of the whole season finally caught up to Djokovic. He clearly did not have the legs, he is 34 after all. There was a mental element to it as well; but if this was a normal GS final without pressure of CYGS, he still would have lost in this physical condition albeit not this easily.

Medvedev played fine, but a decent version of Djokovic could have handled him.

Looking at the stats now and if you told me Medvedev would beat Djokovic with just 58% serving, I would've said Novak must've been playing on a broken leg.

I still can't believe it. I thought if Medvedev even gets to 40-40 in this 5-4 game, he';s gonna lose the match. He played so well and Novak played so tentative - like the weight of the world was on him. When Med had an opportunity to win his first time serving form the match and he double faulted -- oof.

Oh ****...just not there today.

Im not going to lie i am still in a state of shock. I began the match thinking i would see the most historic moment in my tennis viewing life with ND getting the grabd slam. I hope the Djokovic season still gets remembered for the epic it was rather than everyone only focusing on him losing this final.

Are you suprised at how good Medvedev was in the final ?

He compketely shattered ny expectations of what he was capable of with that performance.
