Popyrin has the serve and he also has a bit more range and tactical acumen than your average big server.

Ah I’ll have to mute. Courier. Tsitsipas pronunciation.

Reminding me of the 6-0 set for Thiem against Nadal here. I don't think he will be able to keep this level of play, but it's already plenty impressive.

I feel confident Alcaraz will stay grounded with Fererro around

Why is it hard to fathom? Alcaraz has been training his whole life to come out and do this. And it’s been done before by kids his age.

Medvedev LUCKY to win set 2. Almost got broken on the last game. A lot of chinks in the world #2's armor.
However, he leads 6-0, 6-4.. Andujar to serve first in set 3.

Petchey in trouble here as Courier actually knows about tennis

Tsitsipas on with cheating already. It's been close to minute since the umpire called "time".

Should just get warnings for that nonsense. You drink and eat in the break, not when the umpire says time.

Medvedev gets the third set break. Still watching on my laptop, but have to admit I'm transfixed by this Tsitsipas-Alcaraz match.

I’m happy with his success too. The discussion I was having is about the main draw WC being poorly used by the USTA. Sock is not going to rebuild his career starting at age 29 and he really didn’t do anything in singles even in his prime at USO to merit special treatment.

A minimum $75K check can fund a youthful talent a long way. Now, Sock got it and some of that cash winds up in the traitor Alex Bogomolov (his coach) bank account. If you’re not familiar with his story it’s a gem about the USTA getting fleeced by an immigrant talent coming here from Russia (a good thing), getting a spot in USTA player development (also good) and then after getting to top 40 (really good) he decided to go play for his native Russia (villainous thing) as a pro. Nice guy, no?
im not familiar with the story but how is this even an issue? if he isnt a citizen of a country (usa) how could he play for them even if he wanted to
for example if someone travel to spain to train at the nadal acadamy from another country then turn pro are they suppose to play for spain well no right they still play for their own country

Lol. Oh man Tstitsipas is going to get two real complexes if he loses this. One that his time already passed. Two that the crowd hate him.

I know this is the singles thread, but there's no doubs thread. And I just have to say, Querrey/Johnson vs Arevalo/Middlekoop has the crowds more fired up than any other match I've seen so far. There's some bad blood brewing after some incidents involving readiness by the returners and the crowd is chanting USA after every point lol.

And Johnson gives em a BEAN on match point to seal it LOL!
I'm watching the replay right now. Absolutely ridiculous call after Johnson served an ace and made him re-serve. I love Stevie's response to the chair "Just wait until I get aced the next time". And then goes on to ace him twice in a row!
