This feels like a straight set win. Since he didn't get the wakeup call after Kei, he better have vs Jenson. This isn't time to lollygag around and play another 3 hour match. He needs to serve well and play a B game from the ground. Matteo is also struggling.

Then again, he choked the first and third sets of the Wimbledon F and FO QF against him, so who knows.

I can't believe it, 3 slams in a row they play and unfortunately for Matteo this might be his smallest chance of the 3. I think Djoker in 3 but a battle would do him good to tune him up for Zed and Med most likely...

Berrettini has only lost to Djokovic this year at slams which is no bad thing to have considering the success Djokovic has had but Berrettini will love to keep that record going by beating Djokovic and go on to win the open

I wasn't thrilled with Matteo's serving yesterday, he would need to up his level tomorrow in regards to his serve. I will be rooting for him and hoping for the best. If not there is always Zverev and/or Medvedev that can take out Djokovic.

Is there a point in winning a set vs Djokovic?

These guys can't seem to even push it to 5 after winning the first set

The point is that Medvedev and Zverev are seeing that Djokovic is vulnerable and believe they can defeat him, which of course they can. Medvedev is yet to drop a set, Zverev has dropped one, and Djokovic has dropped 3 sets - one each to Rune, Nishikori, and Brooksby! Which one of these three is the most vulnerable? Djokovic! Medvedev and Zverev have been playing at their highest level of play lately. I am not saying Djokovic won't win but I don't think he will. His fans need to concede that it is a possibility.

True. I think the thing with Djokovic is he has different layers to his game. People shouldn’t panic if he loses the first set. It’s gonna be tough for Novak but also tough for his opponents. As Novak can change his game up like 3-4 times within a match. These guys have to defeat different versions of Djokovic because he has more than just 1 plan. It plan A doesn’t work he will try plan B or plan C.

The best chance these opponents have like Berrettini, Zverev or Medvedev is to come out the gate early and blast Novak and keep it up. A bit like Rafa did in the french open 2020. The problem is it’s tough for them to sustain and if Djokovic hangs in the match and extends it then he grows stronger.

I am not sure what is gonna happen. As I think Novak’s route is tough and he has capable players who can beat him especially Zverev or Medvedev but the hardest thing in men’s tennis right now is beating Djokovic and outlasting him in best of 5 match. Gonna be fascinating to see if Djokovic can once again fend off the next generation or it’s finally their time to breakthrough

At the end of the day Djokovic still has that vast experience and mental resolve to fall back on. On top of that his tennis IQ is sensational and he has a game plan for every opponent. He also knows how to change things up when one plan doesn’t work. He’s so complete and tough to beat because as well as having all the shots he is like a chess player too. He figures things out the longer matches go. Even when his tennis isn’t at his best which is the case right now and at times he can still find ways to win.

Zverev/Meddy are playing great tennis and better level so far than Novak but they have less layers or different strategies to fall back on than novak when plan A stops working. There best bet if they meet him is to pound Djoko early and not allow him to get into the match. Like Rafa did at french 2020. As if Djokovic gets his teeth into a match he grows stronger and he’s like a crocodile who drowns you over time. Either that or a Kracken with tentacles that squeeze you until your legs and game goes.

Berrettini will be a tough test but Novak will have a strategy and won’t be afraid to change things up too. I feel the first set is more important for Novak’s rivals than him because history and especially this year shows he doesn’t panic and you can never write him off working things out to turn it around. Due to the fact he’s so fit right now and mentally tough.

On current form Novak does not look the favourite for us open but we have said this before and he’s came through in the end. He will need to raise it a bit but also the fact he’s so mentally tough, physically fit and has a few game plans will give him a chance and keep him in these tough matches.

I would like to see Berrettini have a well thought out plan and not for him to just hit the ball and hope he wins the point. I guess I want him to be more like Medvedev!!! I really like Matteo but I do wish he would concentrate better and try harder!!!

So what would you advise him to do against Djokovic?

Work on getting his first serves in, even if it means taking some pace off of it. Be more patient and keep the ball in court rather than go for so many winners, which cause too many UE's, Make Djokovic move around the court more. Slow down his games. Matteo isn't at the same level as a player as Medvedev and Zverev but on a really good day he could win the match. It just isn't an easy thing to do.

Berret is like a wannabe Safin. :)
I've seen him play enough times to see he doesn't think things out in advance, and if he does, you'd never know it.

Djokovic has faced 31 break points thus far. He's feeling more and more pressure with every match.

This is definitely a match that Berrettini should win, but the resumes of the younger players are full of should've-wons.

Night match per OOP. Advantage Novak. Berrettinni will be SLAUGHTERED. Novak will be ON it from the beginning.
This time the Italian will NOT win a set.

Nothing more to say. Berrettini will win 11 games total and will meekly fold like he did at Wimbledon. He hasn't the tools, variety, mental strength or belief to beat Novak. His BH will be relentlessly attacked and he'll start spraying UE's within 5 minutes.
